Darkzzz_ Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 I have JUST passed my test!! Finally.....!! So what car do i go for as my first car... I dont really want anything too flash, just a small engine, and cheap on the insurance!! Any advice would be great!!
Darkzzz_ Posted 7 February 2008 Author Posted 7 February 2008 Ha Ha.... a classic Daggers response!! I quite like that!! Not to flash and plenty of power up front.... I bet that would move quicker than geoff horsfield in a thai brothel!!!
Bryn Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 Corsa, Fiesta, Punto, 106, Polo, cars like that. 1.3l engine at most. Something small, ie. a supermini rather than something like an Escort.
Darkzzz_ Posted 7 February 2008 Author Posted 7 February 2008 yeah i agree with the super mini part!!! I hate big cars.... PHUBE!!!! I also hate CHAVS!!!
Bryn Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 Get a Chavved up Corsa... Mmmmmmmmm... fooking hate that bodykit. It's a proper bogstandard, everyone-is-the-same bodykit. Nothing custom about it. My mate's got a Punto that he's done up properly that looks pretty nice, he drives like a cock though. Can't stand boyracers.
coale39 Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 I would go for a 306. Good insurance group (4).
LeeCovFox Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 Pffft, cars. Give me a Penny Farthing any day of the week.
Bryn Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 I would go for a 306. Good insurance group (4). You sure you don't mean 206? That one? Pretty sure the 306 is a saloon or a large hatchback? Anyway. 206s are really, really nice to look at, perhaps the best "small" (though they're a bit bigger than the cars I listed above) car around to look at, but they're not the most reliable and they're a little more expensive than other cars.

Heard there pretty reliable too.
General Smuts Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 Corsa Agreed. My missus has one and it goes forever reliable as fook. Shame its a sluggish pile of shite car
Bellend Sebastian Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 Get a Chavved up Corsa... Mmmmmmmmm... If you really want to upset someone with a motor like that, look really worried and say to them 'your mum's going to go mad when she see's what you've done to her car'

Bellend Sebastian Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 If you buy a 306 make sure you get a diesel one. I had a petrol one and it was probably the worst car ever made in terms of reliability, and the numerous AA men called out to it all agreed that if you want a Peugeot then you should buy a diesel - the best diesel engines, the shitest petrol ones. For cheap running costs and low insurance you cannot do a lot better than a Fiesta or Corsa, and for the last few years they've been pretty reliable as well, although if reliability is most important to you then Honda and Toyota are hard to beat
Bryn Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 erm no 306? Heard there pretty reliable too. Bigger engine though, it does make a difference. I think they're hard to find in anything smaller than a 1.4l engine which does put a couple of hundred quid on at least, and for a first car, for I assume a male though I may be wrong, these things are important because the insurance is a ****er already.

I don't think there's one smaller than a 1.4 The insurance on 'Foreign' cars is often a bit more expensive as the parts are pricier when compared with your Fords and Vauxhalls (so fixing them if you crash them costs them more) and some insurers take this into account How much have we got to spend? Not that WE are going to spend it

Yeah too true.

Bloody hell, mine wasn't exactly a rocket with a 1.6! Mind you, I can quite believe it - when the Sierra came out there was a 1.3. They must have sold about 10 of them
Bryn Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 All sorts of models used to get brought out and later discarded I think. Not so much these days though.

New England Fox Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 In my opinion you want to buy a piece of crap car that you can run into the ground for 6 months or so. Its a well known fact that new drivers are more likely to have an accident in the first 6 months of driving than any other time. So my advice would be to get something old and cheap to run which wont cost you much. Drive that around for about 6 months and then save up for something decent to replace it when your ready and have more experience.
