mat_j101 Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 I have to admit, im baffled by the decision to start Hayles. Im well aware he has scored a couple, but so far, imo, hes looked slow, lacked sharpness, doesnt go after balls he often should, and makes some sloppy passes at times. Personally, id rather see Hume, DJ or even Fryatt up front with Howard than Hayles. I thought he was the worst player for us yesterday. He gave the ball away several times when there was no need to. Ive agreed with most of the player-decisions Holloway has made so far, but this one i just dont get. I can understand what Holloway sees in the guy? Just wondered if its just me or whether other people agree.
WetFlannel Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 Scores against Crystal Palace hes a national hero, doesn't score against Plymouth he's an idiot. Jesus Christ.

Hes more of a backup striker. TBH i dont really think that DJ is much good anyway, to spend 2 million on him was a waste. Player such as Howard, Clemence, Oakley, Chambers and Bruno who know what it takes to get out of this league need to start to step it up a notch

mat_j101 Posted 10 February 2008 Author Posted 10 February 2008 Howard seems to have a guranteed starting place, for me he has been poor, i still can't understand why we released De Vries Howard would start most games for me at the moment because i think we look better with a decent header of the ball up front. De Vries was big but crap at heading Scores against Crystal Palace hes a national hero, doesn't score against Plymouth he's an idiot. Jesus Christ. He was never a hero after the Palace game - it came off his shin!!
pafcfan10 Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 Hayles was awesome for us last season, but this season really started to go downhill. He still started practically every game under Holloway though, despite clearly struggling in almost every game. I think most were shocked when the news broke that we had sold him for a profit. Surely you would be better starting two of Howard, Hume or Fryatt up front? Oh, and Hayles on the wing? Holloway must have lost it...

pafcfan10 Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 i'm beginning to think he never had it He certainly had it last season, we were playing good football, reached the Quarter Finals of the FA Cup (deserved to reach the Semi's), and just missed out on the play-offs, with an average side. You can't do that with a bad manager. Like I have said previously, it isn't the same Ian Holloway managing you as who managed us. He never played Hoofball that bad or played players out of position consistently, and he never fiddled around with formations from game to game. If you can find the real Holloway again, then you can expect big things next season. If you take away his clear bullshitting and stupid comments you should find a manager capable of motivating a team to great things.

He probably feels like nothing will work, as the players just have no interest.
lee7 Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 Howard seems to have a guranteed starting place, for me he has been poor, i still can't understand why we released De Vries are you joking. De Vries was never that good for us and at least howard wins headers.
mat_j101 Posted 10 February 2008 Author Posted 10 February 2008 i'm beginning to think he never had it Im not questioning Holloways overall ability, i like what hes doing. I just dont like Hayles
nickthefox Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 Im not questioning Holloways overall ability, i like what hes doing. I just dont like Hayles Holloway has lost it i think- bizarre decision. Thought Clapham had a mare too- Halmosi took him apart.
Free Falling Foxes Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 Ollie said on RL last week that he never bought Hayles & Howard to play together. So why did he start with them & take so long to change it? He knew it wasn't ideal, it was obvious early on it wasn't going to work but still he persisted! FFF
MikeyT Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 Holloway has lost it i think- bizarre decision.Thought Clapham had a mare too- Halmosi took him apart. I actually thought Clapham had a fairly solid and decent debut!
lildave3 Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 I actually thought Clapham had a fairly solid and decent debut! I personally thought he was about out best player.
Matt Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 But i'm sure i've read, or heard Ollie saying he never bought Howard and Hayles to play together, the fact DJ was at time was injured was the reason they were playing together, well DJ's back now so come on Ollie.... -I know DJ is only just coming back but throw him in he seemed ok yesterday, Or even play Matty.
MikeyT Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 Id say either DJ or Hume up front with Howard. Leave Bazza on the bench!
Darkzzz_ Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 I'd rather start with Matty up front, Hayles can be very effective bringing him on in the late stages... I like Hayles but Fryatt has that touch of class, just needs some pace injecting into his arse!!!

WetFlannel Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 How can anyone say Fryatt is better than Hayles? Fryatt has three league goals. Hayles has two already here.

However, Holloway thinks Hayles's attitude is 100% and wants him to influence the other players. Didn't work yesterday though. I liked Hayles last year -- a good season for him, but this season he was a shaddow of the player he was. Did well to get a fee for him.
