Joe. Posted 13 February 2008 Posted 13 February 2008 Right, I feel I've got to start a thread on this because I'm getting annoyed with people. I've heard a lot of moaning about Howard since he came here, pretty much about how shit he is. It's rubbish. The reason he's not been great is the way we use him in this team. If Howard is used as a long ball target constantly all game what else is he supposed to do other than head it on? If there's no player trying to run onto it it's hardly his fault. He's ineffective in this team at the moment and until we start playing better football that's how it will remain. Until we get some wingers in who can provide him with the right service we won't see the best of Steve Howard. Service from the wings is what he desperately craves and long ball football is not going to get him goals. I just think people are being way too hasty already and not giving him enough of a chance. The way we're playing at the moment is not the way Howard is going to get a consistent amount of goals for us.
Joe. Posted 13 February 2008 Author Posted 13 February 2008 who said he was shit? I've seen plenty of people moaning about him on here recently.

Fez of Mahrez Posted 13 February 2008 Posted 13 February 2008 Last night it was nothing to do with him being a long-ball target. He constantly demanded the ball, then lost it every time he got it. He was dreadful. Granted, it doesn't help that DJ Campbell has the worst anticipation of any striker I have ever seen. As I mentioned the other day, we could do with someone with both pace and strength to hold the ball up and keep it.

People are getting on his back already, saying he's a waste of money, he's lost his legs blah blah blah..... well he's just got to the club, hes still scored 2 goals in 8 games, and thats playing 'poorly'. Perhaps if we get behind him, he will start to find his scoring touch of last season, and help us out of this shit we are in. Just maybe.

Lovejoy Posted 13 February 2008 Posted 13 February 2008 If the defence didn't just HOOF and we played football from the back I don't think this would be on the agenda. But maybe that's hoping for a bit much?
Trav Le Bleu Posted 13 February 2008 Posted 13 February 2008 Surprisingly I agree with something that John Barber said during one of City's matchs. Howard came from Derby where he had few chances and now he's at Leicester, where he gets few chances. Strikers thrive on confidence, which is why the best ones are often arrogant knobs. He hasn't had a chance to build his confidence for the best part of a year.

demon_dog Posted 13 February 2008 Posted 13 February 2008 Fully agree, give him the service, he'll get the goals. End of Story.
acooling08 Posted 13 February 2008 Posted 13 February 2008 give im sevice and he will bag 20 goals a season
The Stig Posted 13 February 2008 Posted 13 February 2008 When we start playing some proper football he'll score. This club has had good strikers over the years, just really shit mid-fielders.
lildave3 Posted 13 February 2008 Posted 13 February 2008 give im sevice and he will bag 20 goals a season It's like going from one extreme to the other.
Messi Posted 13 February 2008 Posted 13 February 2008 The whole team just relies on Howard, every goal kick, Throwing, Free Kick etc
Simi Posted 13 February 2008 Posted 13 February 2008 The whole team just relies on Howard, every goal kick, Throwing, Free Kick etc Take it you didn't go yesterday then?
DB11 Posted 13 February 2008 Posted 13 February 2008 I don't see why people are so ungrateful. I mean he only cost us a quid! http://msnsport.skysports.com/football/pla...2_22020,00.html
