BigGibbo Posted 19 February 2008 Posted 19 February 2008 But the main focus is the thoughts on the concept of the video Oh right, well I couldn't be arsed to watch it.
MikeyT Posted 19 February 2008 Posted 19 February 2008 I get that. You still can't call them talentless though! Yes i can!
Bert Posted 20 February 2008 Posted 20 February 2008 I just hate that type of "music".To me its not talented at all!! To me the people who spend time learning to play instruments and learning how to arrange songs are the ones who deserve the credit. I dont like music where you press a friggin button and it does it all for you. Music has gone down the toilet in the last decade, with all the manufactured crap thats about. Basically all this music is someone pressing a button for the beat and some guy who looks like a "gangsta" talking down a microphone. Thats not talent!! And its crap like that, that stops people with real talent out there getting noticed and getting their music out. Obviously its the people who buy this stuff nowadys as well who have no idea what real music is! No offence! See, this is what makes me really angry. If we was mocking your music you wouldn't like it. I guess Indie is the answer to the worlds problems isn't it?

I guess Indie is the answer to the worlds problems isn't it? I couldnt care less if someone mocked the music i like. Its not like i know the artists personally to get all defensive about it. I dont see why people cant accept my views on this style of music. I accept yours, i just dont agree with it!. And no i dont particularly like Indie either, although id take it over hip hop/rap anyday.
Dames Posted 20 February 2008 Posted 20 February 2008 @ the Hip Hop vs Indie debate. Though i think Indie should have its name changed because i really don't think its 'individual' anymore. Every Tom Dick and Harry Listens to it. As for Hip hop takes less effort thats bullshit. In Kanyes instance he produces all his own beats and writes his own lyrics which personally i think requires more effort than playing a guitar/drums to make a similar love track or whatever to the 100's that are already out there.

Its when some one who doesn't appreciate certain genres goes off calling it a talentless genre, its just ignorance. Your views were answered with pretty solid facts, so when your saying Kanye West is talentless its pretty laughable. But no worries.
Tommeh Posted 21 February 2008 Posted 21 February 2008 Flashing lights is a T-rack. One of the best off his album along with I wonder.

Indie was a term derived from word independent rather than individual, in reference to music released on independent record labels. You are correct in essence though. Most of what is called indie these days comes from major labels, and some of it is as manufactured as the boyband music of old used to be. Its just that record companies are very clever when it comes to appealing to people's taste in music in terms of what is fashionable at the time. On the rap/indie debate, personally I prefer "indie" style music because the way that the lyrics are fused with that particular sound says more to me. However I wouldn't say that rap artists such as Kanye are talentless. I watched the video linked here and thought it was certainly listenable, althought I would imagine that it is quite commercial as rap music goes. However, I don't listen to that type of music so I wouldn't know that for certain. But whether I like the music or not is irrelevant to the guy's talent. I'm not going to disrespect anybody who can do something which I am not capable of.
