LeeCovFox Posted 21 February 2008 Posted 21 February 2008 Big fat Ron was twice the player Zidane was. His single season at Barca was the definition of unplayable. He was absolutely stunning. Really could have been the best player ever if he had kept that up. Dies anybody else think that Ronaldinho is overrated? Certainly he isn't in terms of raw talent, he can do things which most other top players could never dream of. But it seems to me that ever since the last World Cup, when he was expected to take it apart, but never, he has almost given up. Yes, he is still exceptional, and I enjoy watching him for the sheer fact that he always plays with a smile, enjoying the talent which he possesses. But I just feel that there is so much more that he could show.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 21 February 2008 Posted 21 February 2008 In no order: Yashin Pele Maradona Di Stefano Puskas Moore Carlos Alberto Cruyff Eusebio Cantona Peacock Also have to point out to El Matador that Pele spending almost the entireity of his career in Brazil was not rare in those days, and the Brazilian league was one of the finest in the world. Unfortunatley now, most clubs on the continent pay over-inflated fees for South American players (for example, the recent sale of Boca wonderkid Ever Banega to Valencia for £10+million, a massive tag for a player who has barely endured more than one season in football), thus weakening any leagues strength.
Head Honcho Posted 21 February 2008 Posted 21 February 2008 I'm no expert on football history, so I won't comment on that, but I would agree that C. Ronaldo will go far, and I really expect him to.Even being the greasy slime-ball that he is Barring a couple there's nothing historic about that list! That list is far too contemporary to be taken seriously. Here's a player from the 40's and highly regarded as one of the Italian greats. Valentino Mazzola http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valentino_Mazzola
Jack Posted 21 February 2008 Posted 21 February 2008 I thought some clown would say that!! But seriously if you have grown up watching his style of football you would have appreciated it like i do!! Check this out if you have some time, seriously check it out! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjK5luZ31d8...feature=related Very Skillful. He ain't half got a free kick on him

shen Posted 21 February 2008 Posted 21 February 2008 Big fat Ron was twice the player Zidane was. His single season at Barca was the definition of unplayable. Zidane decided a World Cup and a Champions League trophy pretty much on his own though... tough to beat!
LeeCovFox Posted 21 February 2008 Posted 21 February 2008 why has no - one put ricky sappleton in thereRIDICULOUS These lists are terrible, really showing the lack of football knowledge which some people possess. Anybody would think that Michael Ricketss had never existed.

Darkzzz_ Posted 21 February 2008 Posted 21 February 2008 i really cannot see why george best is included so often in lists of "great players" Because he was a player before his time!! Look at some highlights, you didn't get that many players playing with that much flair in that peroid.... He didn't win a lot really and wasnt able to shine on the world stage, if he had then he would have be considered a lot better than what he is to this day... I have a lot of DVD's on him, and he was a genius.... Not the Best but most certainly amongst them!
Jack Posted 21 February 2008 Posted 21 February 2008 That is pure class that!!A true great, he had so much in his locker..... TrickyTrev Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 Zidane decided a World Cup and a Champions League trophy pretty much on his own though... tough to beat! Top goal scorer in world cup history. Best player in the 2002 world cup. 47 goals in 49 games he scored for Barca. 3 times world player of the year, as Zidane was.
WetFlannel Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 Im not going to name players like Pele and Maradona as I havent seen much from them. Only a few clips. And lets face it, we could make Hume look like a worldbeater in a 1 minute video. Theres also alot of suspicion that players such as these would struggle in modern day times as the quality of football has vastly improved. But who am i to decide when I've never seen them, so I'll leave them for the time being. The only two recent ones I would name in that bracket are Ronaldo and Zidane.

Best player in the 2002 world cup. 47 goals in 49 games he scored for Barca. 3 times world player of the year, as Zidane was. As much as I loved him, I don't think he's the best player of all time. I think he could have been one of them, if he hadn't suffered so much from injuries.
