ASH17LCFC Posted 20 February 2008 Posted 20 February 2008 John Charles, tbh. Good pick Loved in Italy and probally one of the best centre fowards / centre backs in history. Shame he wasn't English.
Sparky Posted 20 February 2008 Posted 20 February 2008 Maradona George Best Pele Bobby Moore Eusebio Puskas Roberto Baggio Zinedine Zidane Jimmy Greaves Socrates
Finnegan Posted 20 February 2008 Posted 20 February 2008 I really hate it when English people say "shame he wasn't English." Shame for who? Fuck off. Shame Pele, Ronaldinho, Eusebio, Maradona and Jesus weren't Welsh. Well, Pele, Ronaldinho, Eusebio and Maradona weren't anyway.

Shame Pele, Ronaldinho, Eusebio, Maradona and Jesus weren't Welsh. Well, Pele, Ronaldinho, Eusebio and Maradona weren't anyway. Just when great players come from Wales they are wasted. Same with George Best and others. I know Wales got far in the 58 world cup but if he played for England with a player like John Charles already in a strong English team. We could have won it. Same with Ryan Giggs, never played in a euro or a world cup and thats because he is Welsh. Alot of people normally only play for Wales because there not good enough for England Scotland Ireland and American Samoa.
the_bowman Posted 20 February 2008 Author Posted 20 February 2008 Good debates Can't find top 10 but i do have a World XI for the 1990s Peter Schmeichel Cafu Laurent Blanc Alessandro Costacurta Paolo Maldini Lothar Matthaus Didier Deschamps Zinedine Zidane Jurgen Klinsmann Ronaldo Romario
David O'Leary Posted 20 February 2008 Posted 20 February 2008 I hate these stat books.... Here is my own list: 1.Maradona 2.Roberto Baggio 3.George Best 4.Pele 5.Zinidine Zidane 6.Di Stefano 7.Mario Kempes 8. Stoichkov 9.Hagi 10.Romario In my opinion Pele was not the best, ok he was a special player, but he never tested himself in europe and spent all his career in Brazil (apart from his spell in America) Roberto Baggio is one of the most un-appreciated players to grace the beautiful game, check some of his highlights out on youtube and you will see why!! Stoichkov and Hagi made it on my list as they transformed there respective countrys and put them on the map in a way, both very similar players, outstanding ability!! Again you can see some excellent videos of them on Youtube... can't take penalties though
accessory Posted 21 February 2008 Posted 21 February 2008 I've always wondered why, when these lists are compiled, wee Jimmy Johnstone never rates a mention. At the very least on par with George Best and as entertaining as any player mentioned in this topic. But he never proved himself in a proper league though..
accessory Posted 21 February 2008 Posted 21 February 2008 So difficult - and how do you compare modern players with older ones, goalkeepers with strikers? Anyway I've erred towards the most exciting of (mostly) my time Pele Ronaldinho Cruyff Bergkamp Romario Cristiano Ronaldo. Garrincha (The Little Bird) Alfredo Di Stefano. Gerd Muller George Best. Honourable mention to: =============== Zinedine Zidane Ferenc Puskas Marco Van Basten Lev Yashin Maradona Sir Tom Finney Sir Stanley Matthews Eusebio Dixie Dean Matt Le Tissier Romario Gento Jimmy Greaves. Sir Bobby Charlton Franz Beckenbauer No Duncan Edwards?

Darkzzz_ Posted 21 February 2008 Posted 21 February 2008 can't take penalties though I thought some clown would say that!! But seriously if you have grown up watching his style of football you would have appreciated it like i do!! Check this out if you have some time, seriously check it out!
Thracian Posted 21 February 2008 Posted 21 February 2008 No Duncan Edwards? Sadly he just wasn't around long enough or he might well have been well up the list. Jurgen Klinsmann was another worthy nomineee though.
Darkzzz_ Posted 21 February 2008 Posted 21 February 2008 Dino was 10 times the player Roberto was Dont be silly! And why you talking of Dinho in past tense?? Did he retire or something?? Ronaldinho... Is class, that is true, but all round play Baggio was better....

Is class, that is true, but all round play Baggio was better.... He did Retire last year but is playing for Tombolo now. He got capped 60 times for Italy and he was a good solid midfielder. Played for Rangers and Blackburn for abit.

Played for Rangers and Blackburn for abit. Excuse my stupid self for a second whilst i smack myself upside the head!! I thought you were refering to "dino" as in "Ronaldinho" (although that is spelt DINHO) I was thinking is this guy on something...??!! I now know you meant Dino Baggio Dino Baggio, a player with the same name as Roberto was never going to make the grade really was he!! I like your humor in all of this though, spot on....
TrickyTrev Posted 21 February 2008 Posted 21 February 2008 Yeah but i'm fairly sure that would leave at most 3 answers, 1 of which would be Zidane over and over probably. Big fat Ron was twice the player Zidane was. His single season at Barca was the definition of unplayable.
