Babylon Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 Leicester City spent more on agents' fees in the first half of this season than any other Championship club, according to Football League figures. City paid £1,067,084 to agents between July 1 and December 31. The outlay, which is up from £46,117 on the same period in 2006, underlines the transfer activity at the Walkers Stadium, particularly during the summer. The figures are outlined in the latest Football League Agents' Fees Report. City made a total of 43 transactions during the six months, the most of any Championship side. It included 29 transfers and new registrations, as well as the cancellation and extension of contracts and the loaning of players. The period covers the close season when 14 new players - including DJ Campbell, Stephen Clemence and James Chambers, as well as Carl Cort, Shaun Newton and Jimmy Nielsen - arrived at the Walkers Stadium. City also awarded six players, including last season's top-scorer Iain Hume, with new deals and cancelled the contracts of three other players. A City spokesman said: "This figure reflects the high number of transactions that took place over the period in question - including the acquisition of 14 new players. "It is easy to forget that the fees are spread over the whole of the duration of the player's contract - and therefore will be payable over a four-year time-frame in some cases. "The figure quoted also reflects the costs associated with players leaving the club during this period." Stoke were the next Championship club behind City, spending £931,900 on agents on 38 transactions. Charlton also carried out 38 transactions, paying agents £782,305.

Along with all the manager changes it does give an indication as to why we might be so inconsistent this season.
Babylon Posted 22 February 2008 Author Posted 22 February 2008 what a waste. I know... I should definitely be a full mod.
Tommy G Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 It's only £24,814 per transaction, and in agent terms isn't that much really. It could easily bit a lot worse!
sdb Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 i guess it's mainly just because we've bought so many players!
blue blood Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 the root cause of many of our current problems? the product of several managers i guess. The buck has to stop with the chairman on this one. At the end of the day he hires the managers, trusts their judgmnt and sanctions the transactionsi
Cheese Me Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 Meaningless really, just a result of the sheer volume of change, both players coming and going. Getting rid of some of the dead wood will be a fair chunk of that. Does help to further re-emphasise though that we need to be more careful with who we buy and not just sign players up willy nilly
Geo V Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 Deals are always risky but its a shame we spent that money on players who we ended up having to pay to fudge off. Its usually a coup when you get a player in on a freebie but we seem to have got all the shite freebies, with the exception of a certain R Kellys transfer in recent years who managed to bring in McAuley.

Cheese Me Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 the risk analysis must be poor on the chairmans part. Not necessaily. The chairman has to back the manager so he'd need to feel really strongly that the risk was too high to step in. We'll never what went on with MA and MM back in the summer but to be fair we were all quite pleased about a lot of the transfers that looked good on paper but haven't necessarily turned out so well (Casino, Kaebi even Newton and Cort looked reasonably good deals at the time)
Swedging Posted 23 February 2008 Posted 23 February 2008 i guess it's mainly just because we've bought so many players! Not exactly. Most of it will have gone on unattached and out of contract players. Hellings, Nielsen,Kaebi, etc. Not really the best way to run up the club's debt.
Geo V Posted 23 February 2008 Posted 23 February 2008 the risk analysis must be poor on the chairmans part. I think we only spent 40k more this season than we did last (for the same period). That was with a different chairman. The fact is that you never know what these players will be like with the exception of a few. Newton did exactly what I thought he`d do, fudge all. Cort was never going to hit the heights again, he hasnt done it in about 7 years but some of the others like Kaebi, Chambers and N`Gotty were expected to do a lot better than they did. BTW, just a thought to those who wanted the likes of Robbie Fowler, Trevor Sinclair and JFH here. Imagine the bill of those old ponies and even a tenth of the donkeys we were linked to actually arrived. I know many on here wanted that type of old stager here and I cant think of many of the players who we were linked to heavily in the summer who have done that well.

Er, I think we spent 40K last year - or maybe 4k. We were certainly bottom of the list.
