act smiley Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 AlnwickChambers ---- Stearman ---- Kisnorbo ------- ClaphamWesolowski ---- Oakley ----- KingHumeHoward -------- Campbell Hmm. On paper that looks a fairly strong team that could play to our strengths, but I'd be a bit worried about a lack of width giving their wingers too much space, even if it does stand a better chance of getting a grip on the centre of midfield that we're lacking all too often.
STUHILL Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 I see a lot of these formations including no wingers or width, which is fair enough considering how poor our wingers have been of late. The problem with playing so narrow though, is that everything is so compact. The reason we did so well against Norwich, was the way we stretched the play, making lots of space for the players and given them time on the ball to pick crosses or attacking passes. Playing everything through the middle gives the players less time on the ball and any attacks are potentially snuffed out by overcrowding the players. The problem is, how long can we really persist with players like Lackzo and Hume on the wings after such inconsistent performances. Holloway really should have signed some wingers on loan by now!

Webbo Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 Alnwick Chambers-----N'Gotty------Kisnorbo------ClaphamHume----------Clemence------------Oakley----------MattockHoward-------------DJ Substitute Stearman for Chambers and I think that's the most likely starting 11.
maddog Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 Put Sappleton in goal for all i care. Ive got to the stage now where i don't care who Ollie plays and picks, he never picks the best players in the best positions and never will. Just get 11 players out there anywhere and win at all costs.

Joe. Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 Time for changes. Alnwick Stearman N'Gotty Kisnorbo Clapham Bori King Oakley Mattock Hume Howard
Flynny Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 Lets go radical. Alnwick Chambers - Stearman - Kisnorbo - N'GottyBori - Wesolowski - King - MattockHoward - Hume Bench: McAuley, Oakley, Lackszo, Deej, Fryatt That or: Hayles Hayles - Hayles - Hayles - HaylesHayles - Hayles - Hayles - HaylesHayles - Hayles

Flynny Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 N'Gotty at left back? Yep. I wasn't impressed with Clapham, he was playing like Stearman at his worst on Saturday. Mattock's just as vunerable, so I've done the equivalent of sticking a brick-wall there and leaving it at that. I'm sure someone reported Ollie as saying that he'd asked him to play there and he wouldn't (disgraceful really). It's a good idea. I've no doubt Baz could fill in if he's still against it though.
Jack Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 Clapham has been pretty steady since he come in, I would keep him at left back for the time being.
lildave3 Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 Clapham has been pretty steady since he come in, I would keep him at left back for the time being. Definitely.
Flynny Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 He got the ball taken past him time and time again on Saturday. Maybe I've been too radical or completely missed what he did well the other day, but I don't think he's the answer really.

I wouldn't have him no longer than the end of the season, but at this moment in time he is the best option we have in that position.

Joe. Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 For now I think Clapham's the best we have. I'd have him at left back over Mattock because he's just more reassured and experienced. Clapham's steady and does his job well for me. It's not the defence that worries me right now though.
Flynny Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 I don't think Bruno is either tbh. Possibly not, but I don't see him being considerably worse and might be worth a punt.
