Mike the Metal Ed Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Is it normal for the last of the summer wine theme to be played in the crowd? Edit - And now Coronation Street. Bizarre. And now Morecambe and Wise! Add Blackadder to that. Our cricket fans are great.
SamL Posted 25 March 2008 Author Posted 25 March 2008 Need at least 4 wickets today. Well we've beaten that. Considering we were 4-3 on the first day, this is arguably our best performance for sometime. Just got to wrap it up tonight, 5 down 5 to go. I can't see New Zealand getting anything from this game now, after McCullum they've only really got Vettori who can bat a little.
purpleronnie Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 To me it was a cop out. Perhaps they wanted Strauss to get his double hundred (I dont think it was a good idea) and when he got out why didnt they declare?, they had enough runs. Then they would have bowled when the conditions were at their best, they seem either scared, nervous or have no confidence. Still should win but it showed a lack of a winning mentality.
Uncle Albert Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Last nights play by England was very cautious to say the least. I thought Vaughan was going to declare straight away when Strauss got out but wasnt to be, has paid off though picking up 5 wickets on that batsmen friendly pitch is a very good effort. For this pitch i am still amazed there has only been 3 hundreds on it.

I'd also like to point out that I think the English supporters have been very good on this tour.
Bert Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 English support is fantastic, no matter what event it is, we have some of the best national support in the world i think. With 5 wickets remaining, and NZ needing 300+ the only realistic outcome is an England win.
SamL Posted 25 March 2008 Author Posted 25 March 2008 Realistically theres only one outcome, an England win. But I think New Zealand's mentality is that if they're going to lose they might as well lose trying to chase down 331. They've certainly come out all guns blazing.
Uncle Albert Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 I can see England going on a surge after lunch to be honest.
SamL Posted 25 March 2008 Author Posted 25 March 2008 Monty Panesar, Panesar, Monty Panesar La La La La La La La La. One down, four to go.
SamL Posted 25 March 2008 Author Posted 25 March 2008 A 5 wicket haul for Monty Panesar and the score is 281-7. We're into the tail now so it might be over sooner rather than later. Monty's had a tough series so it's nice for him to end it on such a high.
SamL Posted 25 March 2008 Author Posted 25 March 2008 England are needing 3 wickets to win with New Zealand needing 251 runs.
Jack Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 England are needing 3 wickets to win with New Zealand needing 251 runs. Pretty much in the bag then eh
