davieG Posted 23 March 2008 Author Posted 23 March 2008 I think it would be too much like Rugby and would take away a large part of footballs identity. I didn't say I was in favour, I fail to see how it makes it look like rugby just because they have them. As for football's identity this whole Grand Slam hype has little to do with football's identy and is just a further drift into the americanisation of football.
davieG Posted 23 March 2008 Author Posted 23 March 2008 Yeah but that's your punishment surely? The punishment should come after, the object of the game is to see who can score more goals than the other using football skills not be subject to the whims of a referee. Besides fans pay enough to deserve an even contest as far as it is possible to be.

As for football's identity this whole Grand Slam hype has little to do with football's identy and is just a further drift into the americanisation of football. The 'Americanisation' has been happening for years, big money, investors, advertising etc so had become a part of football's identity for a long long time dating back to the days of George Best when players had advertising deals. Whereas in the rules, Yellow cards and Red cards have always been associated with the game and become a basic foundation of the sport. Implementing something to counter it in my opinion to replicate the ongoings in another sport would be a travesty, the same as video replays, we may as well rename it footby.
Simi Posted 23 March 2008 Posted 23 March 2008 If the FA would grow some bollocks and punish teams properly for doing wrong we wouldn't have gone so far the wrong way. After apparently looking to clamp down on abuse to referees, letting Ashley Cole get away with what he did was unforgivable and totally contradicts everything they are aiming towards. They're losing the battle themselves for the sake of earning themselves more money from the popularity of the big teams and players in this league.

Yellow / Red cards didn't exist in the early days of George Best. Even then the rules surrounding them have been updated and changed since their introduction as have many other rules associated with the game so I fail to see any validity in your argument. How you can justify the continued americanisation of the game and yet baulk at what would be tweeking of the dismissal rules bemuses me. As for it's part in the game it has only really become effective/ a reality since the introduction of all seater stadiums and Sky TV. The days of George Best had absolutely no input from America.
john_lcfc Posted 23 March 2008 Posted 23 March 2008 To be fair Steve Bennett had no choice and had a very good game considering the pressure etc. Andy Gray is an A grade ****.
lavrentis Posted 23 March 2008 Posted 23 March 2008 I like Steve Bennett, he's a good ref and he did good IMO.
Uncle Albert Posted 23 March 2008 Posted 23 March 2008 Really boring second half in all honesty. I think Bennett should of had a real good talking to Mascherano when he first started running his mouth then i think Mascherano would of calmed down. Even contest i think United still would of won. This game should be alot better though. Essien right back scored that worldie of a goal from that position last season.
davieG Posted 23 March 2008 Author Posted 23 March 2008 I'm not Drogba's biggest fan but it was good to see him come off for treatment rather than collapse on the pitch - credit where credit is due
The Stig Posted 23 March 2008 Posted 23 March 2008 Sin bins should be used for mouthing the referee. If the player does it once, he is sent in the sin bin for 15 minutes. If he does it again, he is sent off. This will iron it out the game but not ruin the games. If the player has already been booked then they should not go to the sin bin they should be sent straight off.
davieG Posted 23 March 2008 Author Posted 23 March 2008 Drogba should have scored then. Yes typical Chelsea hoooooooooooooooooooooooof football
Simi Posted 23 March 2008 Posted 23 March 2008 Announcement asking for Arsenal fans to sit down. Good luck with that.
StroudFox Posted 23 March 2008 Posted 23 March 2008 Announcement asking for Arsenal fans to sit down.Good luck with that. They always announcing that at Chelsea.

The captain should be booked if one of his players shows dissent to the referee along with the player, and/or the manager should have to sit in the stands for the rest of the game. If the player cant control his temper on the pitch then its up to the captain.

No infact that's very harsh, just because your team mate is acting an idiot it doesn't mean you should be punished. They're grown men and should take the responsibility for their actions.

If the player cant control his temper on the pitch then its up to the captain. Nope dis-agree with that. The player should be punished, not his manager / captain. What would you do if you had five players mouthing the ref and the manager was already in the stands. Book the captain five times? Then the players would go unpunished. Either sin bin them or send them off. Sin bin works in rugby so why shouldn't it in football. It's time for zero tolerance. I'm getting to the stage where I don't care if the games are ruined, I hate to see it in football and it needs to stop.
StroudFox Posted 23 March 2008 Posted 23 March 2008 Chelsea should have scored again, Kalou. Is this game going to be one of those where both teams have loads of chances but don't score?
Uncle Albert Posted 23 March 2008 Posted 23 March 2008 Eboue is the biggest cnut in the Prem. Gallas must be up there.
