For the 5th season on the trot I call for the award for Player of the Season should be cancelled even more so if we go down.

Leicester City Supporters' Club will hold their annual Player of the Year and Goal of the Season Awards at the Walkers Stadium on Saturday, April 26 (8pm until late).

The awards will include the 2007/08 Player of the Year, Goal of the Season, Young Player of the Year and Academy Players' Player of the Year.

What always gets me, is why hold the awards before the end of the season?

Surely a goal on the last day to keep us up, could lead to goal of the season?

Goal of the season's easy so far - Kingy's, no contest.

Player of the season? Fulop's only played half a season. Kisnorbo's been generally solid.

But for his tireless efforts at wing-back - a difficult position in a good side never mind ours - and for his consistency since the turn of the year it has to be Stearman for me.

McAuley's distribution has consistently let him down, Clemence has been way below his best, Hume has been patchy and the rest have mostly only played half a season at best.

That was a really good event a couple of years running.

You mean in the good old days, like these?

Other awards aren't easy.

But for making 26 first team appearances in in his first full season I'd have to say that

Young Player of the Year -------was Joe Mattock. Getting England Under 21 recognition also helped his cause.

Academy Player of the Year?

==================

There are various contenders. Billy Kee started the season in devastating form but has been absent injured of late.

Billy McKay has been a steady marksman and hit the jackpot recently with five in one game. Defender/midfielder Lee Cox has done well enough to be elevated to the first team squad, Ryan Beswick's been typically influential.

It's very close and to compare defender with attacker isn't easy but in the year we went to Dallas I'd choose Billy McKay. Not only is he a consistent marksman but he's a 100 per center. There's no such thing as a lost cause with Billy and he's come through to do pretty well in the reseerves too.

So: Billy McKay.

Most Improved Player?

===============

In some ways I'd say Richard Stearman has been one of our most improved players this season, adding consistency to his ability and obvious athleticism. But Richard would win my Player of the Year so, looking elsewhere, I'd give honourable mentions to centre-back Scott Garner who I never believed would reach Reserves standard, to Lee Cox for knocking on the door of the first team but the guy I'd choose as most improved is young attacker Craig King. He's in his first full season with the Under 18's and has also made appearances for the Reserves. He looked a bit too greedy when I first saw him and inclined to run into dead ends but he's learned to be better than that and is starting to be increasingly influential.

So: Craig King.

I think holding an awards ceremony would be completely out of place.

With the exception of goal of the season, none of the first team really deserve to pick anything up.
