Who is Chandler?

Has anyone ever met Chandler?

Seems like an intriguing character.

For what it's worth, I do think he adds something to the forum and I do look forward to reading his posts.

If he is a he and not a she.

I do too ; agree with him or not, he always has good reason to his posts .

I really cannot see why he attracts so much hostility and i think he should just ignore the abusive posts rather than get embroiled in argument

I really do believe the world needs Chandlers

Well he did say he had a full beard

I will be at the Whitefriars Olde Ale House in Gosford Street, Coventry (near the university) at 8.00pm THIS Wednesday the 16th April. I have long dark hair and full beard and will be wearing a dark suit and tie and will be standing at the main bar on the far right side.

I expect you to be punctual and to be on your own (as I will be).

Excellent boozer.

One of the few in Cov.

Hope the chat flows as well as the ale.

Is the portrail of your character supposed to come across as some what intimidating? because you come across as some what of an Antelope rather than a Bison

You don't call the shots here Mr Antelope nor the punctuality of my attendance in your watering hole!

I would like to take this opportunity to inform you that the lilly livered, chicken hearted poster known as Fox123 did not keep his appointment with me last night at that magnificent ancient booze palace the Whitefriars Olde Ale House (Santiago Fox - you have impeccable taste) even though he initially accepted my invitation:

Secondly name your watering hole ****wit, i'll be there!

I don't like cowards Fox123 and I take particular exception to abusive cowards (good to see that the mods continue to maintain the fine old tradition of looking the other way whenever I am at the wrong end of obscene ad hominem attacks). Now that you have been publicly outed as a yellow belly Fox123 I hope that your humiliation explodes the warped feelings of power you get when posting your bile.

There again, knowing the psychology of people like you I think not...

You should post more.

I'm learning new words and everything with you around.

True, competion isn't exactly in abundance though is it?

He or she has long dark hair and a full beard, even more intruiging.

Edit

I almost forgot the original question

The sulhur gases are now taken out by limestone scrubbers in the power station flue stack, the result is a calcium sulphate slurry which can be used in the manufacture of gypsum (wall board). Effectively the alkalinity of the calcium carbonate neutralises the acidity of SO2 from the flue.

Anthropogenic climate forcing (man made climate change) is just the latest in a dishonourable series of pseudo scientific, politically driven, catastrophist theories. All those that disagree with this speculative hypothesis are stigmatised as being either mad, corrupt and/or of being in a tiny academic minority. The climate contrarians have only ONCE been able to properly air their views on television ('The Great Global Warming Swindle' C4 - available on 4oD) and NEVER on the BBC (good to see that our public service broadcaster paid for by you and me still believes in balance eh?)

Amidst all the accusations levelled at the dissenters it is conveniently forgotten that one industry that was once deeply unpopular in this country (and loathed beyond measure by the environmental lobby) has quietly been making hay while the planet has been (allegedly) warming (we've actually been cooling slightly since 1998 but who cares about the facts). By a remarkable coincidence this industry is a zero carbon emitter. And, in the UK, its principal PR just happens to be the brother of one Gordon Brown. Now, your starter for 10, what industry am I talking about?

No folks I ain't talking about wind farms, solar panels or even wave energy - I'm talking NUCLEAR POWER.

You see folks, when all those old nuclear plants got decommissioned in the 80's and 90's industry chiefs recognized that it would be a bugger getting approval for the next generation of nuclear stations (urgently needed to reprocess the plutonium for the next generation of nuclear warheads for Trident coming into service in 2026). So they thought why not rehash a bit of science fiction and scare the living shit out of eveybody?

This science fiction, ironically, came out the last climate scare that was doing the rounds in the 1970's - the new ICE AGE. One of the solutions that was mooted to this alleged problem was to fill the atmosphere with carbon dioxide. But all along, it seems, we had been doing this anyway and nobody seemed to notice. Things eventually got out of hand and the new theory went global and became a handy stick with which to beat the West and surprise, surprise, the United States.

Man made global warming is such a fact that 'Big Oil', we are reliably informed, has had to fund the climate contrarians while those nice concerned people at BNFL, British Energy and EDF (who together recently launched their plan to export their 'new' nuclear technology to the rest of the world) only need to stand and watch as their unwitting, dimwitted allies in the environmental movement make complete fools of themselves as they present the case for their industry completely unaided.

And when the nuclear lobby needed a more direct and less subtle plug they were able to rely on their mates at the Beeb to stage an episode of 'Cooking in the Danger Zone' next to Chernobyl.

If you can - have a butchers at the book below. Guaranteed to make gullible Greens engage grey matter...

I think I love you Chandler. :D

I would note as an aside that "The Great Global Warming Swindle" is more of a rant and a short, sharp shock to point out that there IS an alternative viewpoint, rather than a perfectly reasoned whole. Myself I'm fairly sure that all of this is, at the very least, massively exaggerated, but I do remember watching it and thinking on occasion "now hold on thats not QUITE right".

State of Fear I read a few years ago now, but I'd take it similarly. It's quite well argued but it does cherry-pick just a little and has to make concessions for its genre.

Hardly a RANT as even the pro global warming Wikipedia critque acknowledges the way it made its case (link below). The programme revealed what an insignificant gas CO2 actually is - it accounts for only about 0.0383% of the upper atmosphere and only a fraction of this comes from human activity (if there is a warming gas to be concerned about it should be methane not CO2 but strangely no one seems to be worked up about this - could this be due to the fact that methane is not a bi product of fossil fuel use but comes mainly from cows' bums?).

Now, if you had never heard about global warming and somebody presented you with the following options about what caused the earth to warm up and cool down:

1) an insignificant gas accounting for less than 4/100th's of one per cent of the earths upper atmosphere

2) a big fookin yellow ball that has fire storms raging on its surface that spit out flares that regularly reach the earths atmosphere that then collide with cosmic rays (stellar radiation) which, in their turn, collide with water vapour from the earth's oceans (er 95% of the earths upper atmosphere I believe) to form chilly things called clouds...

You know what... I believe that only one bozo per million (0.000001%) wandering around in the earth's lower atmosphere would go along with option one.

Anyway here are a couple of links:

I take the view that you are big enough to look after yourself. I would go further and suggest that you invite the attention, but I wouldn't be so cheeky.

But at least this time I was allowed to get the retaliation in (or the promise of it at any rate).
