The Reverend Posted 4 May 2008 Posted 4 May 2008 So then ladies and gentlemen. I want to buy a new t.v for my bedroom, just for watching tv and the Xbox 360 really. I need something to make up for today (though i've been planning on getting a tv for a while). So, i've had a look around on t'internet, and ebuyer seems to be the cheapest/best site really. Though if anyone knows any better, let me know. So basically, i've found a few on ebuyer of various sizes, and prices, and i want to know which would be the best option. Basically i want HD ready, with freeview. I've found a few- 32" Vistron 22" Samsung 22" Vistron 22" LG 26" Vistron There's a few there. Mainly Vistron, seems a bit of a generic brand, but its cheap and thats what i like! So what do i go for? The big 26" for £250? Or the 32" for £20 more? Or perhaps the very smart looking Samsung, which is pricey and smaller but without doubt excellent? Help me out here! I'm swaying towards the 32" Thanks Folks! Also, what leads and things would i need to play my 360? Would i need HDMI leads and all that jazz?
Jay Posted 4 May 2008 Posted 4 May 2008 Panasonic... They're too lovely! I agree!! Panasonic are the way forward!! Samsung are very good as well have you tried empire direct they are who I purchased mine though they often have some very good deals

Daggers Posted 5 May 2008 Posted 5 May 2008 So then ladies and gentlemen. I want to buy a new t.v for my bedroom, just for watching tv and the Xbox 360 really. Are there any other uses for a television?
The Reverend Posted 5 May 2008 Author Posted 5 May 2008 Are there any other uses for a television? That is true, though i was thinking some people might want a high quality picture etc if they were DVD/film buffs or whatever. Anyway come on folks no-ones helped me yet! I looked on Empire direct, far too expensive for my liking.
The Reverend Posted 5 May 2008 Author Posted 5 May 2008 Right, i reckon ive decided im getting the 32". Now,this is a picture of the back of it, where all the leads and stuff go. Now of course i want to play it in HD, so i'm assuming you have to use the HDMI port to connect my 360 to it. Well, the HDMI port looks like it needs a lead i dont possess. Can anyone tell me what lead i need to connect up my 360 to the TV using that HDMI port? Cheers

The Reverend Posted 5 May 2008 Author Posted 5 May 2008 You can get HDMI leads from Argos ranging from £5 - £50 HDMI Leads 50 quid for a fecking lead? Does it really make that much of a difference having a 50 quid lead? I'm getting one off ebuyer for £3.69, read the reviews and people have said its as good as gold.

I'm getting one off ebuyer for £3.69, read the reviews and people have said its as good as gold. HDMI leads make me laugh. The oh so knowledgeable shop assistants in currys, dixons, etc etc will always tell you that the more you pay the better the quality. I'm not convinced with this argument. I originally bought a £50 lead when I bought my Philips ambilight 2 years back and yes, the quality was very good. However, almost two years later I needed another one, looked on Amazon, and saw them selling for £0.01. Yes, one pence. One penny. ONE P!!! Trust me. I do not lie. However, the postage takes it to around a fiver because it's shipped from a supplier outside of Amazon, but still, bargain. And the difference between a £50 lead and a 1 penny lead? None. Zilch. Nowt. Nothing. Can't tell the difference if I'm honest. And just in case you've only got one HDMI input like me, get the switcher from amazon too. Takes two inputs into your one HDMI on your TV. Again, bargain - £5. Hope this helps you out.

Afyter what you've said, perhaps i should of got the 3 quid one, but too late now Roll on Wednesday! Whats this switcher you speak of then anyway?
Legend_in_blue Posted 5 May 2008 Posted 5 May 2008 Thanks for that mate. I've gone for the 32inch, with this HDMI lead. Afyter what you've said, perhaps i should of got the 3 quid one, but too late now Roll on Wednesday! Whats this switcher you speak of then anyway? I've had a look on amazon and it appears now you can now get a 4 port switcher for 8.99 + 5 postage. Bargain. It basically allows you to switch between multiple HDMI sources into your single HDMI input on your TV. So say for example you have a PS3, 360, SkyHD and an upscaling DVD player or Bluray player etc... you can plug 'em all into this switcher and straight into your HDMI socket on your TV. As for which signal it picks up, it's very clever, it automatically realises which one you want by recognising whats switched on. With me, if my PS3 is on, it picks that up, whereas if I'm watching a film, it picks that up instead. Clever ain't it?

Cheers mate.

Phube Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 Samsung = poo. the only Tv's worth getting are Panasonic, Sony and Pioneer!
The Reverend Posted 7 May 2008 Author Posted 7 May 2008 Have you got to put it as HDMI in your xbox settings? Maybe? Yeah, i tried changing it to 720p or whatever, but i was doing this while in AV, as i couldnt get anything in HDMI. So obviously, if the 360 doesnt detect the 720p within 10 seconds, it switches back to normal settings. Its annoying. The HDMI cable i got tho is very thick, and the port is very close to the stand. Nowi can get the it in ok, but im not sure if its 100% in, perhaps thats the problem. I might get a thin, cheap one, and see if that makes a difference.
Legend_in_blue Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 Samsung = poo.the only Tv's worth getting are Panasonic, Sony and Pioneer! You forgot Philips. The Ambilight sets are awesome. Lights out, shove in a DVD, surround sound - quality. The best plasmas out there are Pioneers - no doubt. LCD - Philips and Panasonic. The Sonys tend to give a slightly duller picture. Not as vibrant.

lavrentis Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 does anyone know why my TV takes like 5minutes to switch on. Its 32" and about 5 years old. When I get back, I switch it on and it takes like 5mins to get from a black screen.
Legend_in_blue Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 Ahhh yes Philips' do look nice.. but I hear stories about their reliability! Mine has been very good - no problems. I heard stories about Samsungs! A friend of mine, his 19" - blew up in a week.
