Trav Le Bleu Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 This has been nagging away at the back of my mind for a while now. I mean, we all complain about the RL commentary... but it's vital for those games we can't attend, no matter how bad. However I am worried that RL may now shunt the egg-chasers on to FM and city on to digital. Ok, so will be able to listen on my PC, but for a DAB radio digital reception around where I live is still crap (apparently Leics be amongst the last places to go fully digital), plus won't be able to listen in the car if traveling. Has anyone heard anything in this regard?
hairy Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 I would prefer it if they did. I wouldn't have to borrow my daughters stereo to listen to FM then.
Ultra Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 It depends how long the current contract lasts between Radio Leicester and the club. We can't be sure the next contract will give us the same priority..
moseeds Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 Competition with Hinckley United and Oadby Town for airplay coverage? Hinckley are only 3 levels below us now i think?
Thracian Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 It depends how long the current contract lasts between Radio Leicester and the club.We can't be sure the next contract will give us the same priority.. Can't imagine why. When I went this season they were worse to watch than we were. Couldn't catch, couldn't pass, couldn't run, couldn't kick and couldn't win. Skill wise most wouldn't have got in my old school team. God knows what's been happening down there but the performance on the pitch made me wince and never want to go there again. The ground was shit, view was shit and the atmosphere was worse than shit.
Ultra Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 Still a top six Premier League side though (which is more than we'll ever be) And at some stage next season, their crowds will overtake ours..
Thracian Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 Still a top six Premier League side though (which is more than we'll ever be)And at some stage next season, their crowds will overtake ours.. If all their opponents are like the Sale team I watched they've not got much competition. As for the crowds overtaking ours, you may be right but a quarter of a football crowd will make more noise and generate more atmosphere than any Tigers fans and there will still be far more people in Leicestershire listening to the radio who are more interested in the City result rather than the Tigers. Besides, if I'm manager, the Walkers will be packed by then with all those people discovering what attacking football is all about.
Ultra Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 As for the crowds overtaking ours, you may be right but a quarter of a football crowd will make more noise and generate more atmosphere than any Tigers fans Oooh, don't tempt fate there... and there will still be far more people in Leicestershire listening to the radio who are more interested in the City result rather than the Tigers. That may well be true. But the complaints of Tigers fans could be more vociferous, which may sway the minds of the powers that be.. Besides, if I'm manager, the Walkers will be packed by then with all those people discovering what attacking football is all about. It would certainly be a novelty. A City team playing attacking football?
The Stig Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 If RL miss some games Leicester Sound may be interested.
lefox Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 Please no, there is nothing worse than Blethyn Jones's voice at half time. I'm not sure I can handle this anymore..
Dom_Harborough Fox Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 If Barber gets his way, City & Tigers will probably both be dropped so that he can bring us live commentary form the Hinckley matches!!! also Bleddyn Jones used to be the headmaster at my primary school & he was a bit of a character. It's still odd hearing him on the radio
Webbo Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 RL will cover what gives them the best audience figures and that's still us. On a side note, we won't have our own page on teletext much longer.
Dom_Harborough Fox Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 On a side note, we won't have our own page on teletext much longer. thats a point. My morning teletext binge will be significantly lessened we'll be barely featured on regional sport behind D***y & F****t as well
Tommeh Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 Still a top six Premier League side though (which is more than we'll ever be)And at some stage next season, their crowds will overtake ours.. Forking hell, keep the spirits up why don't you. We'll have to be shocking in Lge. 1 for that to happen! at the end of the day football is twice the sport of Rugby. Couldn't give 2 shits about radio Leicester, loose the commentary get more people to the games, if you care that much to listen why not attend? Obviously this is not aimed at the foxiles!

Obviously this is not aimed at the foxiles! Er, actually, I have no doubts at all that Tigers vs. Wasps, Gloucester, Bath and co' at Welford Road will have bigger gates than City vs. Hereford and the like in the Walkers if we don't start the season blindingly.
Metartarsal Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 The same spy who told me that Barber is off (and thank f*** he is), says the club have a three year contract with RL - two years of which are still to run. From the radio's point of view, they pay a good whack for rights so they couldn't justify spending that cash for putting it out on digital whether they get more listeners or not. The BBC nationally pays something for rugby rights but none of it comes out of the RL budget. As for attendances, Tigers expand their ground at the end of next season to 24,000. I think they'll fill it. Our average gate last season was 23,500, the third-highest in league. (only Sheff U and bizarrely Norwich ahead of us) If we don't come back up next season, it could be close....

The attendances in the ground are irrelevance as most of the people who attend don't listen to the commentary.
