exactly.. n its the first time weve won something since o'neil

We have won sod all yet. Lets start the season before we assume that its going to be successful. I assumed that relegation wouldn't even be a consideration this season.

Do you think that it's a possibility that our crop of youngsters are;

a) Still too young.

b) Not good enough.

There is just a chance that with Holloway being an ex-professional footballer with coaching badges, who sees these lads every day and is advised by the youth team coaches, knows more about them than you.

There are a lot of professional footballers with coaching badges that couldn't spot a good player if it was waved under thier nose. The likes of King and Wesolowski were overlooked. In fact Holloway moaned about playing young players, where as he should've encouraged them, look what Warnock Achived doing so.

Gradel for example, should've been back with us after chrstmas rather than signing 2 hungarians who hardly ever played.

I agree some may not be ready or good enough, but i'm sure some probabley are.

Why are people so dismissive of the JPT? It is still a trophy at the end of the day, it's not embarrassing to win it. And it's a trip to Wembley.

Exactly, I'd be well up for a trip to Wembley, regardless of the occasion & its always nice to win something!! :D

i think holloway had enough to keep us up but there is something fundamentally wrong down there and we have been on a massive downward spiral for years. our league positions have been worse each year since you know when.

i blame holloway, partially. he signings and tactics have been bemusing at times but leads me to think what is preventing the players from being able to fulfil their roles which leads him to keep changing the team?

why didnt fryatt play often and wesolowski? they seem young players with ability but to counter that argument one seems to be permanently in an arsey mood and hasnt taken his chances and the other is injury prone.

they are just two example but basically our players do not help themselves.

i feel with a small squad holloway could do a job. the options he had to pick so players worked against him i feel.

a small squad would bring more unity and cohesion a large squad brings too many different options, incessant changes and no unity amongst the players

And Wembley has missed us, its been eight years since our last visit. I'm sure they want us to come back :D

Maturity is the way forward.

You can learn a lot from cheese, the only good cheese is a stinking old one. Well ripe so that it strips skin from your mouth.

That is the kind of make-up to the squad we need.

And some jelly.

Are you suggesting that no-one who is not an ex-pro with the requisite badges can offer an opinion and a possible solutions to the problems our club has been suffering in recent times?

What about all the ex-pros and qualified coaches who are at least in part responsible for getting us where we are today?

However, back to Holloway and our immediate problems. Holloway's track record, both with us and his previous clubs suggests that he prefers experienced pros and 'scrappers' to get the team out of trouble and it is this approach that has just got us relegated.

Are you suggesting we continue in the same vein?

BTW No one, least of all myself, are suggesting that we "just play the youth team", that is a wilful mis-understanding of the points being made and does you no credit.

Some of us are simply suggesting that bringing in some of the younger players to replace those "experienced professionals" who have completely failed us might be a better option than continuing down the road we are currently on!

Do we have to call it the Johnston's Paint Cup? It's the FA Trophy now isn't it?

FA Trophy sounds MUCH better... less pathetic sounding.

So you know that playing the youth team would have guaranteed us staying up?

We've got our wires crossed, my fault. I'm suggesting that our relegation brands all of Holloway's coaching badges and experience irrelevant and untrustworthy as far as player judgement is concerned.

The FA Trophy as the name suggests is run by the FA and is for non-league clubs

The Johnstone's Paint Trophy is run by the Football League (Rules - see first Section) and is primarily for League 1 & 2 teams

Football League Trophy is the sponsorless name.

As far as I know, there's still another season or two with the sponsorship, though, so JPT it is!

Ollie, whatever people think of him was definitely trying to keep us, if only for his own pride. The teams he picked were what he thought, rightly or wrongly, were the best for the job.

If he'd have played King for example and he flopped and we lost, how many people on here would have said never mind, it was worth a try. More likely they would have been calling him a tw@t for picking him.

I never suggested he wasn't trying. He used his usual ploy of picking cautious 'experienced scrappers' who at no point looked likely to move us forward. Many people saw this as early as the beginning of the year, but Holloway refused to make any changes that mattered, he simply brought in a couple of similar scrappers and continued his ultra cautious approach.

How much further down that road do you wish to go?

King and one or two other youngsters could have helped us, but they were given no chances earlier in the season by Holloway, (or Megson for that matter). However I agree that throwing them in at the death would have been a big gamble.
