Dr The Singh Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 Do we qualify for europe if we win the piant trophy? Anglo-Italian Cup me thinks!!!
Raj Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 Do we qualify for europe if we win the piant trophy? Yes! We get into the qualitying rounds of the Champions League. Last seasons paint winners Doncaster just missed out on a lucrative tie against AC Milan.
Master Fox Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 Yeah MK Dons are in europe next season Mk Dons are in europe? bloody hell. I can't quite believe it. I reckon they might be our rivals next season. And Leeds.
Master Fox Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 Yes!We get into the qualitying rounds of the Champions League. Last seasons paint winners Doncaster just missed out on a lucrative tie against AC Milan. We need to go all out to win the paint trophy next year then.
marbelladave Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 So you dont want Walshy as manager or coach but just as a motivational energizing type person??? You can give him any name you want, but a person who sets the agenda, determines the style of play and the kind of players we need and then provides the motivation and leadership to get them playing sounds like a manager to me. We have some excellent coaches at the club (look at our young players) so let them do what they are best at and let Steve do his thing.

Has Steve done this kind of thing before? Would he be up for this kind of thing? And if he DID take this role and fail, would his iconic hero status be in jeapordy by us ever so understanding City fans!!!

Dr The Singh Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 Walshie for manager, with Steve Bull as his assistant Where did Walshie mange before, and why did it go tits up?????
marbelladave Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 Met (one of?) Steve's 'girlfriends' a few times here on the Costa Del Crime. Trust me, if he could manage her (which he did) then he could pull (was going to say lick, but didn't like where that was going!) our team into shape in no time. Genuinely impressive!
colbo68 Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 1. It's a big if.2. Surely if we do manage to keep a good majority of our players, automatic promotion under a decent manager should be to expected, but with Ollie? It was surely easier for a reasonable manager to get us into midtable obscurity as a minimum standard this year bearing in mind all the money invested compared with most of the clubs above us. It surely was a harder task to get us relegated. 3. Even with a clown like Ollie it should be reasonable to expect promotion or at least a playoff position, but what if we were promoted? Do you honestly believe after what we've seen of Ollie this year, he could get us up into the premiership? If so, do you seriously think he has the tactical nous and general managerial acumen to keep us there? Not a chance. Wake up now Milan, Leicester City should not be rewarding abject failure, sack him now and plan for the future. You two are fast becoming the Dumb and Dumber of football! I couldnt agree with this post more. Holloway has to go and go now - we must bring in a fresh thinking manager, offload the journeymen for whatever money we can get for them and build a new young team to challenge for honours in the future - I fear if we stick with Holloway (I can't believe this is even an option!!) - then our we will start next season with Donkey and Hayles up front!!! which would not be moving the club on.........
step Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 no had a converstaion wid some mates n they all said how all the fans who hate him now wll probably love him next season if we go up

Colbo Exactly. Now given that most decent, progressive young managers can do better than work for Mad Milan in Division 3, then who on earth can we get to take us forward? Nobody with a track record record in any case! So we have to go with someone who is unproven, Step forward Steve Walsh!....... (and a good first team coach)

(and a good first team coach) I agree that we may find it difficult to recruit the right manager - however, City is a big club, with financial backing, tons of fans etc... so we still should be quite an appealing option I'm afraid I just can't agree with the Steve Walsh option - as much as I love him and used to sing his praises week in week out when I was younger - I just feel that he won't have the strength of character to give the players a kick up the arse when they need it. I dont question his commitment to the club, his passion and his honour, but I don't think he's enough of a bastad (like Ferguson, Wenger, Hughes etc...), which, to my mind, is what the club need - we don't need another Holloway (who is a likeable character, a friend of the players and all that), what we do need is someone the players are respectfully frightened of - all the best managers have that one key attribute about them - the fear factor, which, I regret, Washie wouldnt command.
renards Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 I will never sing Holloways praises. The man makes me want to vomit, followed closely be his band of blind and nieve 'Army'

Even with MM in charge? ............ maybe not! Strength of character and being a bit of a bastard is exactly who Steve Walsh is! Bastard (to the opposition) on the pitch, strong character and (at our level at least) a winner. He would not put up with the lack of commitment we have seen from some players in recent times and I think he would give the youngsters someone too look up to as well as putting a bit of 'fear' into them.
teblin Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 Keep hearing the fact that we need to install a "winning Mentality" at the club. At the risk of sounding like another member on this forum, there is one area of the club that has had this mentality for at least the last 2 years if not longer. That's the youth set up. though i haven't seen a lot of those players play, they have to get the chance next season, their some of the players enthusiasm, mixed with abit of the experienced head(if we can keep the likes of Clemence) will go a long way to installing this mentality. I would be interested from those in the know about the youth team, which players they honestly believe should make the break though next season. Remember its not just about abilty they are going to need the physical presence in league 1. Maybe it should be a new thread asking that but too many of those at the minute.
Koke Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 I'm going on a Middle East tour soon, and I'm happy I won't be here during the summer since all we'll be doing is recycling the same old talked about subjects.
dandannieldanok Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 if milan decides to keep him and we get automatic promotion next year and also win the paint trophey whos going to be singing his praises? No, not for one second, and quite frankly I'd be slightly embarrassed if we won the JP Trophy. He was given enough time and resources, and a platform of starting 17th, to keep us up comfortably.
Koke Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 I don't wanna win that little tin pot trophy. Let's withdraw from it like Manchester United did for the FA Cup some years ago.
Corky Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 I don't wanna win that little tin pot trophy. Let's withdraw from it like Manchester United did for the FA Cup some years ago. Why are people so dismissive of the JPT? It is still a trophy at the end of the day, it's not embarrassing to win it. And it's a trip to Wembley.
Webbo Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 The issue is this;If we keep Holloway he will attempt to bounce back by bringing in more players "experienced at this level" and even if we do get back we will struggle once more. That is what is track record leads us to believe. OR, bring in someone who would make the most of our crop of young talent and build something more substantial, even if it takes a season or two. Our better youngsters will all be looking to leave if Holloway continues to shut them out. I would dearly like to see more of our young players given a chance, rather than rely on second rate mercenaries, which is why I would like to see Holloway leave / get sacked! Do you think that it's a possibility that our crop of youngsters are; a) Still too young. b) Not good enough. There is just a chance that with Holloway being an ex-professional footballer with coaching badges, who sees these lads every day and is advised by the youth team coaches, knows more about them than you.

Webbo Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 Our relegation suggests otherwise. So you know that playing the youth team would have guaranteed us staying up?

Father Ted Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 if milan decides to keep him and we get automatic promotion next year and also win the paint trophey whos going to be singing his praises? I certainly wouldn't be because we shouldn't be in this mess. But if we do get promoted and do very well in the Championship then I will be but I will only give praise where it is deserved and he doesn't deserve it now or this whole next season unless we win every game like 8-0!
