MPH Posted 15 May 2008 Posted 15 May 2008 I think the lad's game has transformed dramatically since going to Bournemouth, i've watched him for the reserves and youth team and also seen him for Bournemouth and you can tell that he's stepped it up big time. But you're right, if we play like we did this season then Gradel will get frustrated and we wouldn't do him justice. Get the ball out wide to him on the deck and he'll be devastating. aye. who was it who said loaning out the youngers players would do no good at all. well, who ever it was ... IN YOUR FACE!!!
Ric Flair Posted 15 May 2008 Posted 15 May 2008 aye. who was it who said loaning out the youngers players would do no good at all. well, who ever it was ...IN YOUR FACE!!! The sad thing is, had Maxi Gradel come back to us in January and Holloway had played him, then we'd probably still be a Championship team. I simply don't accept that Gradel wouldn't have scored a few in those final months, which was badly needed. From January onwards, our midfield scored a grand total of 2 goals between them!
GianEmmo Zola Posted 16 May 2008 Posted 16 May 2008 Goalkeepers Paul Henderson - Alex Cisak - Carl Pentney - Conrad Logan Defenders Patrick Kisnorbo - Gareth Mcauley - Joe Mattock - Richard Stearman - Lathaniel Rowe-Turner - Scott Garner - Bruno N'Gotty - James Chambers - Lee Cox - Alan Sheehan - Harry Worley Midfielders Matthew Oakley - Stephen Clemence - James Wesolowski - Andy King - Max Gradel - Jonathan Hayes - Levi Porter - Sergio Hellings - Radostan Kishishev Forwards - Steve Howard - Ashley Chambers - Billy Mckay - Iain Hume - Matt Fryatt - Dudley Campbell - Barry Hayles - Eric Odihambo - Ricky Sappleton - Louis Dodds Players in Bold i think will go the rest im happy with at the moment The Rest i think are good enough to achieve promotion , maybe adding 5 or 6 players to the squad like 2 midfielders, 1 left back, 1 cb , 1 experienced striker , If we only had them players with no signings id go for a team like Logan/Henderson Chambers Kisnorbo Worley Sheehan Gradel Wesolowski King/Clemence Porter Fryatt/Chambers Dodds/Hume Rest - Garner(reserves), Kishishev, Mckay(reserves), Sappleton(reserves), Hayes, Campbell, Hayles, Odihambo(reserves), Cisak(reserves), Pentney, Rowe Turner(reserves), Cox(reserves)

Houdini Logic Posted 17 May 2008 Posted 17 May 2008 Why do people not give Mattock the credit he deserves? I know he's young, but youth has just as many benefits as is does downfalls. Stoke was proof that Mattock should have been favoured over Clapham in every situation
Daggers Posted 17 May 2008 Posted 17 May 2008 Frazer Richardson, despite being in demand, stayed with Scum on their drop through the league. No doubt it was linked to his belief about how soon Scum would climb back into the Premiership but I see no reason why we can't keep Stearman and Mattock here this season. It will be a measure of how seriously Mandaric is taking his role here.

Stoke was proof that Mattock should have been favoured over Clapham in every situation The thing is, no one is really getting on Mattocks back. He has the potential to be a very good player but the thing is, if he gets a sniff of a Premier League move, he'll take it. Thats the reason why people think he'll go, not because they think he's shit. I really don't rate Clapham. He wasn't even getting in the team at Leeds so must've had a field day when we went in for him. Mattock over Clapham any day.
Ultra Posted 17 May 2008 Posted 17 May 2008 No issue with that, especially now Clapham has gone. But we'll still need cover at left back. Sheehan will probably stay at Leeds whether they go up or not.
smokey Posted 17 May 2008 Posted 17 May 2008 do well next season in League one ?Henderson J Chambers Kisnorbo NGotty Clapham A Chambers Weslowski Clemence Porter Gradel Howard Thats based on few of our better players leaving.....(Hume,Fryatt,Campbell,Stearman,Mattock,McAuley) I still think thats a decent team, Not sure if its strong enough for promotion though....... Well! Clapham as gone, Porter is shite and Gradel plays right wing so a bit out mate. Also i would play Fryatt up front as i think he will stay and get loads of goals at league one level, also think Stearman and McAuley will stay and one of those will be club captain.
smokey Posted 17 May 2008 Posted 17 May 2008 ok then lets say stearman, mattock, mcauley, hume, dj, clemence, oakley and bruno leave. along with the other dead wood - kish, maybury etckisnorbo will be out for a few months, lets then say (obviously slim chance of happening) sign ant gerrard, dean cox, chris zebroski, david bell and liam dickinson and myabe another cb. i would ecstatic to have a team like that but i can dream!1 ................henderson................. chambers worley gerrard sheehan gradel wesolowski king d.cox ............dickinson fryatt.............. subs: steve howard david bell levi porter WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!!!!! ash chambers ryan beswick lee cox mattock sappleton rowe-turner ok then lets say stearman, mattock, mcauley, hume, dj, clemence, oakley and bruno leave. along with the other dead wood - kish, maybury etckisnorbo will be out for a few months, lets then say (obviously slim chance of happening) sign ant gerrard, dean cox, chris zebroski, david bell and liam dickinson and myabe another cb. i would ecstatic to have a team like that but i can dream!1 ................henderson................. chambers worley gerrard sheehan gradel wesolowski king d.cox ............dickinson fryatt.............. subs: steve howard david bell levi porter WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!!!!! ash chambers ryan beswick lee cox mattock sappleton rowe-turner ok then lets say stearman, mattock, mcauley, hume, dj, clemence, oakley and bruno leave. along with the other dead wood - kish, maybury etckisnorbo will be out for a few months, lets then say (obviously slim chance of happening) sign ant gerrard, dean cox, chris zebroski, david bell and liam dickinson and myabe another cb. i would ecstatic to have a team like that but i can dream!1 ................henderson................. chambers worley gerrard sheehan gradel wesolowski king d.cox ............dickinson fryatt.............. subs: steve howard david bell levi porter WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!!!!! ash chambers ryan beswick lee cox mattock sappleton rowe-turner

Dont play Henderson - just not good enough - get a decent goalie on a season long loan 2. Get most of the old uns out! - especially Howard - he's NOT a part of the future 3. Clapham has gone! Therefore: Some goalie Lee Cox Kisnorbo Rowe-Turner Sheehan Bell Oakley Wesa Gradel Ash Chambers Sappleton This would be a good young side, with one or two older heads to bring them on - success wont be instant, but will secure a good side longer-term
renards Posted 17 May 2008 Posted 17 May 2008 Gradel will only do well for us next season if we play to his strengths. I've said before that if a player's good enough then their quality will show (to a certain extent) no matter who they have playing alongside them, but Gradel will need to be used correctly otherwise he won't be able to perform as well as it appears he has done for Bournemouth. He's shown that he can be a threat in League One so in theory he should do even better for us next season but I'm not 100% sure he will do. I don't think he'll be given as much responsibility and freedom here as he was given at Bournemoth and that will frustrate him a great deal from what I've seen before. I hope I'm wrong though Gradel has not been here for the clown to ruin. Holloway has the midas touch and turns good players bad. Any team selection is irrelevent with this joke as a manager.
Mr Happy Posted 17 May 2008 Posted 17 May 2008 I think we have the perfect opportunity now to build for the future, firstly MM has to decide is Ollie's future with us or not, if he thinks so then Ollie has to build for the future. (also keeping him will aloow us for the first time in god knows how long some stability!!) We need our chairman/manager/backroom staff to all be singing form the same hymn sheet. As much as I hate to say it Levein had the right idea, youth is the way forward. We need to start freshly blooding our highly rated academy into the fold, if theres one thing I can't stand it having players that you never use because their not experienced enough. Well their only going to gain experience if you actually start playing them and being as we're now playing at the very same level they usually get loaned out to - Give em a go' after all they can't do any worse than what we saw last season from the so called experienced players!!!! So before somebody points out youth alone isn't going to get us anywhere, yes its obvious that we'll need a few older heads to give the young uns a lead to follow so we strike a balance between youth and experience. I'd love to see us try out this team - maybe we can, maybe not as some may leave- because I think it'd rip up the third division (This is based upon who we currantly have and also upon the speculation that Stearz, Mattock, McAuley etc leave) ---------------------------Henderson---------------------------------- J.Chambers---------Bruno--------Worley-------------------Beswick ----Kishishev-----------------Clemence---------------Weso---------------- -------------------------------Hume------------------------------------ ----------Sappleton-------------------Fryatt--------------------------- Subs: A.Chambers, Gradel, Odihambo, Hayles, King
Sods Posted 17 May 2008 Posted 17 May 2008 As long as we have someone in the tem that can do something special I think we have every chance of being in the promotion challenge. Hume could be this player. If you can remember our team when we got promoted under Adams i remember him saying. 'We were a average side, but with Muzzy we were a very good side'. And that is what we want, I wouldn't mind if we hold onto some of the players that have taken us down. If they were human you would think they would want to get this side back up, once we have that winning mentality I think being in the championship will be more succesful, look at Bristol City, but we are miles of that at the moment. By keeping as many players as possible that were regulary in the first team towards the end of the season, we then have to the chance of bringing Dodds and Gradel back into the team. I have a feeling Dodds is not going to accept the contract offer however which will be a shame. These two will have experiance of playing in a lower league which could help us. Gradel is crucial i believe. The thing is players like Fryatt, DJ, Howard and Hayles who are seemed not good enough for this club, really have a chance of changing that. I think we should try and keep hold of as many players as we had last year, this is probably not going to happen as players like Stearman and Mattock will probably leave. Will some of the players have more chance of staying if Ollie stays? Its exiciting times to be honest in who we will keep, who we can get back inside the team. I believe this will show our ambition for the next season.

I think it's fair to say that no-one on from Leicester would hold it against him. I should have quoted the post i was replying to - the one before mine which says he's still a kid. Kid or not - a damn good player
