Joe. Posted 4 June 2008 Posted 4 June 2008 My new ipod arrived today but I can't get any songs/videos onto it because my compute doesn't recognise it. It's not the ipod because the exact same thing happened to my mate's ipod on my laptop and it didn't work then. I'm struggling for what to do really, anybody else encountered the same problems?

Is it becuase you already have an iPod on that computer? Try getting a different version ofiTunes.
Benjani Posted 4 June 2008 Posted 4 June 2008 Googling might help Dunno if this is what is needed but found this. To fix: 1. Right click My Computer 2. Click "Manage" 3. Under "Storage" go to "Disk Management" 4. Find iPod and Right click 5. Click on "Change drive letter and paths" 6. Select iPod and click "Change" 7. Choose a new drive letter 8. Click OK, exit from Computer Management 9. Disconnect iPod 10. Reconnect iPod 11. Voila!
Joe. Posted 4 June 2008 Author Posted 4 June 2008 Yeah I've tried Google to no success yet on Apple's website. I'll keep trying. I've also tried installing the latest version of itunes but it won't let me because a previous verison of Quicktime is basically ****ed.
Alexikokopops Posted 4 June 2008 Posted 4 June 2008 Who's going to be the first to post about an alternative the iPod and retreat into their own ass?
Joe. Posted 4 June 2008 Author Posted 4 June 2008 I'm fairly certain it's nothing to do with itunes. It's the fact that windows explorer isn't recognising the ipod as an ipod. More of a "USB mass storage device".

An ipod is a mass storage device by the way so you know your hardware is OK from the fact the PC acknowledges it as such. By the way, you should have bought an Archos but thats another story.
Number 6 Posted 4 June 2008 Posted 4 June 2008 Who's going to be the first to post about an alternative the iPod and retreat into their own ass? his problem started when he made the decision to buy an ipod creative all the way
Joe. Posted 4 June 2008 Author Posted 4 June 2008 his problem started when he made the decision to buy an ipod creative all the way For the record my last mp3 player was a Creative Zen and I loved it. But age has taken its toll on the poor thing. I bought an ipod because I needed the extra storage space, and the £140 I paid for it was great value for 80gb of space.

Joe. Posted 4 June 2008 Author Posted 4 June 2008 Arrrggghhh this is ridiculous now. Itunes + Quicktime (my previous version of this didn't work anyway) both uninstalled on the computer, no traces of them whatsoever on my computer now. I try and install new version of itunes but it doesn't work because it needs quicktime. I try and install quicktime on its own- it won't install because it can't uninstall a previous version of it.
Samilktray Posted 4 June 2008 Posted 4 June 2008 Try restoring your computer to an earlier date maybe?
Alexikokopops Posted 5 June 2008 Posted 5 June 2008 damn it! i saw the jargon, got confused and missed the last line It was a valiant effort, you can't win them all.
Bert Posted 5 June 2008 Posted 5 June 2008 (Pain in the ass, but:) Try creating a new user on your computer, see if you can install itunes on there? Lots of hassle, but it could be worth it if it works.
