Carling Cup 1st Round - Stockport

Not really. It's fairly average as a town (by national standards) and by standards of the south lancashire/north cheshire area - it's reasonably affluent compared to other towns of similar standard.

I mean it's no better or worse than a lot of places, including Leicester (and yes I have spent time in Leicester having friends and family there).

To call it a toilet is what is depressing really.

And don't forget even Poyton and Macclesfield has it's grotty and depressing parts.

:)

Don't compare Stockport with Leicester please! :frusty:

Why not?

Both town/cities of fairly similar size. And like any large town or city it does have it's grotty parts - it equally has it's very nice parts.

I mean it's not like I went off like the original poster and called Leicester a toilet.

Someone called my home town (which I still live in) a toilet... what did you think I was going to do? Say "Yes, I agree. Oh by the way, Leicester is by far the most wonderful town I have ever come across in my entire existence" ?

Get real!

Stockport isn't a county anyway! Hypocrites.

The team changed it's name from Heaton Norris F.C. - in 1890 after Stockport became a County Borough of Cheshire in 1889.

Leicester City were our opponents on two memorable matches.

Firstly on September 1st 1900 you were our opponents in our first ever Football League match - it ended 2-2.

Secondly on 7th May 1921 you were our opponents for the so-called "Gate of 13 Game" when the game was allegedly watched by only 13 fans.

However the truth is that EP was under suspension due to crowd trouble and the game was played at Old Trafford - Manchester United were at home that day to Derby, so they played Derby in the afternoon kick-off and then County played Leicester afterwards - 13 is the number of people who paid only to watch the County V Leicester game - a couple of thousand more canny souls paid to watch the United V Derby game and just stayed behind to watch the 2nd game for free!! It ended in a 0-0 bore and we were relegated and I think Leicester were promoted.

But there you go.

We haven't played each other since 1925 mind.

Do you realise that you are on a Leicester City supporters' forum talking about two places which one of us have ever heard of and certainly don't care about?

Sarah Harding you mean that wench from Bramhall?

As for the 2nd sentence.....

"3 times, we only beat them 3 times"

Oh and thanks for the 6-0 as well - it meant we sacked the useless Turner and got Gannon in which meant we stayed up and now we've gone up!

Cheers!

Let me tell you why..I work in Stockport more than I work in Leicester..your ground is rubbish...in a rubbish area..your suporters are some of the most passionate and the nicest people on the planet but even the most loyal of you know you will never ever be better than you are now..so less of the "big up" :giggle:
