We said the step down from Premiership to Championship would make him half decent

didn't work out like that

The only way he will ever be decent for us now if he does what he did against the baggies every single game lol

Welll obviously lol;) We need to hang on to Steve, he needs to find his form and bang in the goals. Simple as. He can do it as we seen during his time at Derby. He will be feared...Mark my words

What do you reckon - seeing him in the pre-season training I was wondering - is it worth keeping hold of him.

Mean for one, if he plays, plays well and starts scoring we may be able to re-coup a tad more money? And I can imagine he'd do well in this league along side a pacey striker and some wingers who can cross.

absolutely not - get rid of the willy puller for whatever money we can get and play the young uns - they are the future, not him!!

I actually do see what you mean.

Like most others I was very frustrated with Howard's lack of, well, everything last season. Seemed very uninterested and showed no signs of anything worthwhile.

However I have a small amount of confidence left that he actually could do the business in League One. Let's not forget the fact he received terrible service from pretty much everywhere, and he was never going to score bucket loads of goals. With Gradel and Dyer now here hopefully this will all change.

Howard's been here and done it before with Luton - and was successful. He didn't score 19 goals in the Championship for the sheep shaggers for no reason either. I think he might just be what we're looking for next season.

Exactly!!! if he didnt show any passion last year, particularly to stay up. why the hell will he this year - we MUST rebuild a good long-term side this year and not fall folly to the quest of immediate success

Definitely  This was most certainly the case most of the time. If Howard does get the kind of deliveries he craves and doesn't perform then by all means get rid, He knows the league, has had the second chance he deserved and blew it. However i reckon this will not be the case next season. If he get the right service then without a doubt he will score goals. I'll bet my bottom dollar on it.

Because this season he might actually get some proper service. Last year he was just a passenger at times having to feed off scraps from our sorry little midfield. With better help he has to be more interested.

Sounds a bit Matty Fryatt to me. :D

i refer to my previous point about building a good young side to progress for the future - Howard would not be a part of my plans even if he does score a few - i repest now is the time to build a good young side who are gonna play together for the next few seasons (look at Forest for a good example) - a long-term vision is needed, over and above short-term immediacy

I can see what you mean. Although we try to build a side that can carry on going for season after season, ATM what i think Milan and Pearson's main objective is we do need Immediate success.

It was a very big disaster last season to be relegated so they will be doing anything to get back to the Championship. When/If we get there then we can start building "a good long-term side" as although Manderic will want to keep to his 3 year plan, i do not think that 2 successive promotions is what we should aim for. MM's 3 year plan is now rushing us along.

Pearson should take his time, If/When we get back to the second tier, to build a strong and capable side that will indeed get us back in the Premiership. If not straight away then in the seasons to come.

There's no point buying wingers if you don't have a big man in the middle. Howard or someone very similar will be playing up front for us next season.

He shouldn't be forgiven for his lack of interest in almost every game last season, lack of ability is understandable but he wasn't bothered and that wasn't more evident than in the biggest match of our history.

I for one won't be happy till he's out of this club.

Well if he stays and gets 20 goals lets see if you want him out then!!!

I'm sure that every other team in our division would give absolutely everything to bring him in if they could.

To be fair to the bloke, the service to him game in game out was nothing short of abysmal. Any striker feeding off this kind of service would feel deflated and uninspired after a run of 15 or so games in a row having put up with that ineptitude going on behind them.

I'd give him one last chance. In fact, I'd suggest putting him into 'the spine' of the team. Hendo, Kisnorbo (when he's fit), Clemence (if he sticks to his word and stays) and Howard up front. Put in the youth and drive around those players, sort out the left back position (which is looking woefully short of players, let alone cover) and we'd have a team capable of something better than last season.

I'd suggest our football this season will be better than anything played over the last four.

Agreed ;) The good times begin now everybody :D

I'll be happy to see him putting away crosses from the left and right wing.

Alternatively, seeing that he's rather tall, why not put him in goal?

Imagine Howard dressed up as a keeper, storming forward in the last few minutes of extra time.

Very smart, that.

A one-game wonder, not worth the money we pay him.

If anyone makes an offer, Pearson should bite their hand off.

Should never have gotten rid of De Vries, least he was trying.

If we can make money on Howard get rid (same for Hayles), if not keep him see how he does I don't suppose it can hurt too much. Hayles from the bench makes a damn better effort than Howard starting (which was near enough every game since they've been here) imo. But if they go we'll need to replace them, other we're just left with Fryatt and DJ as experienced strikers for us

Hold tight! Let's not go off the deep end. And yes, he was very trying :P

Not bothred, him and Hayles are the same player, except ones slightly older and shitter but a damn sight more amusing.

Spot on.

:P
