Steve Howard says Leicester City's players are desperate to win promotion back to the Championship at the first time of asking.

"All the lads only want one season in this league. Then we can get back where we belong," the striker said.

"It's going to be tough and it's not going to be the prettiest football.

"But we'll grind, we'll kick, we'll sweat and we'll get out of this league," the 32-year-old former Derby forward told BBC Radio Leicester.

And Howard said new manager Nigel Pearson has been well received by the players.

"He's set down some rules and standards which is what we need and everybody has responded to that," he explained.

Leicester face one of Howard's former teams Luton Town in a pre-season friendly at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday.

That's be a novelty for the majority of LCFC players, I bet Howard had to look that up in a dictionary.

I love the phrase 'back where we belong'. Does anybody know which league we belong in anymore?

I find it funny that players always make statements exactly like these once they've got a club relegated, if they'd have done all what they say here last season we wouldn't be in this bloody league!

Howard was one of the main players near the end of last season who looked totally disinterested so I hope he'll have booked his ideas up in time for the start of this one.

Holloway didn't?

That if a manager doesn't you don't have to try as hard and thus end up being relegated?

I don't see the point in these player statements - it's nothing more than meaningless filler...I reckon we are long overdue some out and out in-depth balls honesty.

Bill Anderson - he's your man for in-depth

I'd much have preferred an article by a City player saying they're not arsed if they go up or not. That would have the natives up in arms.

We already know that :P

Howard oozed "I can't be arsed with this last year". He best improve, or Pearson best drop him.

There were a few players last season whose attitude stank, they know who they are and they are the reason we are in this league. Howard was one of the most obvious culprits, and I think it's a bit rich his coming out with this shite.

I saw him at Hinckley and he still either can't or won't jump for the ball, looked slow and at times just as head down I can't be bothered with this as last season.

It's a pity nobody else wants him, never mind a donation for a flag (many congratulations for that one Fez), I would start a fund to pay for his removals van.

Exactly what I thought. We dont belong anywhere apart from league one.

"We are where we are"

Sherlock Howard strikes again. Nothing irritates me more than articles stating the obvious.
