Zingari Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 am i the only one who thinks that there are far too many medals dished out for swimming you don't get medals in athletics for different styles of running
Phube Posted 13 August 2008 Author Posted 13 August 2008 am i the only one who thinks that there are far too many medals dished out for swimming you don't get medals in athletics for different styles of running and soooo true... it is ridiculous!
lildave3 Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 am i the only one who thinks that there are far too many medals dished out for swimming you don't get medals in athletics for different styles of running Can you please tell me what other styles of running there is then?
Phube Posted 13 August 2008 Author Posted 13 August 2008 Can you please tell me what other styles of running there is then? Backwards, crab, hopping, skipping, under a cargo net, like a 2 year old, squeaky bum walking, on heels, 2-footed jumping.... etc. etc.!
lildave3 Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 Backwards, crab, hopping, skipping, under a cargo net, like a 2 year old, squeaky bum walking, on heels, 2-footed jumping.... etc. etc.! Yes. All styles of running you would do, but not exactly olympic styles.
Phube Posted 13 August 2008 Author Posted 13 August 2008 Yes.All styles of running you would do, but not exactly olympic styles. Butterfly! How fudging pointless is that! Who would swim that way!!??
RowlattsFox Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 Backwards, crab, hopping, skipping, under a cargo net, like a 2 year old, squeaky bum walking, on heels, 2-footed jumping.... etc. etc.! That should be an event, would love to see that, 100m skipping
Phube Posted 13 August 2008 Author Posted 13 August 2008 That should be an event, would love to see that, 100m skipping With, or without rope?
lildave3 Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 Butterfly! How fudging pointless is that! Who would swim that way!!?? Well, those athletes that have been training for the butterfly events for the last 4 years probably.
Phube Posted 13 August 2008 Author Posted 13 August 2008 Well, those athletes that have been training for the butterfly events for the last 4 years probably. Just like the athletes who can practise backwards running for 4 years!??!
Ultra Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 Really... no-one is that much better than EVERYONE!Is this another Ben Johnson, Marian Jones, Tour de France, Dwain Chambers etc. etc.! Maybe he just uses, so far, undetectable ones!? Or am I just a cynic!? Given the prevalence of drugs in American sport, the possibility that Phelps' talents may not entirely be his own cannot be entirely discounted. It would certainly be a massive propaganda coup (like the one the Chinese tried to pull with that kid at the opening ceremony) if he picks up all eight of the gold medals (and world records!) he is aiming for.

Fox You Forest Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 He's the highest profile athlete there, Surely no-one is that daft.
Raj Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 He's the highest profile athlete there, Surely no-one is that daft. Ben Johnson was that daft.
Fox You Forest Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 Ben Johnson was that daft. It's a good point. Im not old enough to know but Johnson couldn't have been getting as much attention as Phelps is from the press and what not. I dont know what the drug testing was like back in those days but they also could't have been as strict as today. I just cant see it, I personally think he's just that damn good.

Spose you wernt born then Carl Lewis(Also a legend but many though HE too was on drugs, but nothing ever came of any tests) and Ben Johnson were the big 2. BUT unlike Phelps mediocre opponents(I say that nowing fcuk all about swimning!!!) the 100m was also full of some other big named runners ie Britains Bigcock Christie Lewis made a few snidy comments after the race about the outcome,im sure he knew Ben was on something. Anyway......Boring int it....

Tilley Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 This thread is ridiculous. Look how many people have been sent home through failing drug tests. Phelps wouldn't have been able to compete, he would have been tested before the Olympics. He's just that good. Why can't people just give him the credit the guy deserves, instead of always looking for something bad to say about him. Annoys me when people are successful, yet others are all cynical and try to put a downer on everything. He's the most decorated Olympian in history, & the best swimmer of all time, & I for one, hope he gets his 8 gold medals. Fair play to him and well done on what he has achieved.
