Zingari Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 They should be able to swim however they want and it's a race to the other end. Also, the pool is full of sharks, piranhiiii and box jellyfish. Oh and there is a guy firing tennis balls, like that event in Gladiators. you're on my wavelength
Alexikokopops Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 Well, none of us know for definite, but in my opinion, exceptional performance from a known exceptional performer are hardly grounds for speculation like this. There you go lads, I called Phube too! There was still the distinct lack of personal insult in the attempt to start an argument   NADLER!
thecannon Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 Butterfly! How fudging pointless is that! Who would swim that way!!?? I tried that! Its fooking hard!!
The People's Hero Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 That's how butterflies swim. If they have no wings - erm - yeah, in their pupal stage. Their submersive pupal stage. Yeah.
Manwell Pablo Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 Really... no-one is that much better than EVERYONE!Is this another Ben Johnson, Marian Jones, Tour de France, Dwain Chambers etc. etc.! Maybe he just uses, so far, undetectable ones!? Or am I just a cynic!? I think the word you were looking for is idiot.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 Of course, the answer could be that everyone else are just crap
sdb Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 he takes in 10,000 calories a day, that's why!!! link: http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2008/aug/1...helps.swimming1
filbertway Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 Of course, the answer could be that everyone else are just crap Even if they are? He's breaking records left right and centre...
Trav Le Bleu Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 All the people who set the records before him were crap?
Phube Posted 14 August 2008 Author Posted 14 August 2008 I think the word you were looking for is idiot. To paraphrase the commontator for the Marion Jones race: "No one should be winning by that much!" Everyone thought she was just THAT good! Shows what we know!?
Fox You Forest Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 It's getting ridiculous now why not just mention anyone thats doing well, because if the drugs undetectable as you say why not question anybody who is really on top of there sport. Is Christiano Ronaldo on drugs because he scored far to many goals last season? Is Tiger Woods a druggie ? Is Monty Panesar a skag head?

But they can give you stamina, speed, better recovery... etc. Useful for... say... Running, cycling or swimming! I'm not say he IS on drugs, but I wouldn't be suprised if he was.

Are you suggesting that there is no skill or talent involved in swimming? No technique involved? No natural ability?

Or on the flipside to what JTB said are you seriously suggesting that Ronaldo needs none of these.

Or on the flipside to what JTB said are you seriously suggesting that Ronaldo needs none of these. Of course not... But look at it this way: If you gave performance enhancing drugs to Ronaldo/Woods/Panasar their performances wouldn't improve greatly.... maybe Ronaldo might run a bit more, with less slowing. but it can't give him more skill to get past players, hit the ball better etc. Conversely; if you gave a clean Phelps performance enhancing drugs... guaranteed he would perform MUCH better!

You're now just talking total nonsense.
Phube Posted 14 August 2008 Author Posted 14 August 2008 You're now just talking total nonsense. So you're saying Phelps wouldn't benifit from performance enhancing drugs? Or if Ronaldo was on steroids he'd have scored 10 more goals last year?
shen Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 So you're saying Phelps wouldn't benifit from performance enhancing drugs? Or if Ronaldo was on steroids he'd have scored 10 more goals last year? Swimming has a lot to do with technique as well... And by the way, who's to say that Ronaldo isn't taking performance enhancing drugs?
Jordan Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 Ronaldo's got to be taking intoxication-enhancing drugs.
James. Posted 15 August 2008 Posted 15 August 2008 So you're saying Phelps wouldn't benifit from performance enhancing drugs? Or if Ronaldo was on steroids he'd have scored 10 more goals last year? Weak Phube, weak. Have you ever watched Phelps swim? Have you noticed the way in which his arms don't go faster than everyone else's? How he seems to just glide through the water while everyone else just thrashes around trying to keep up? Well, that's called technique. Have you noticed the fact that his arm span is quite simply outrageous. They are massive arms. That's called physical superiority. Have you also noticed the way in which when he dives in or turns he stays under water for far longer than most of his rivals? He almost does half a length under water. Do you know why? It's because it is faster to swim under water than on top of it. Again, that's called technique. All you are doing in this argument is demonstrating your lack of knowledge about swimming. I'm no expert, I would never claim to be but what I've described above seems completely obvious. He's a very naturally gifted swimmer. The best ever. He deserves a little more respect.

Didn't they introduce rules in swimming some years back that dictated swimmers could only stay under the water for so and so long? On a sidenote, I've grown a bit suspicious of Nadal...
Phube Posted 15 August 2008 Author Posted 15 August 2008 Changed my mind... after reading the article posted above... he is not beating people left right and centre at EVERYTHING. Just beating the same 'decent' swimmers in the same events... OVER and OVER again. I was caught up in the hype, but now I know...
Raj Posted 15 August 2008 Posted 15 August 2008 Ye Olde drug boys on for another medal tonight isnt he? Gotta take your steroid induced syringe hat off to him. LEG END!
Raj Posted 16 August 2008 Posted 16 August 2008 Olde Junky swimmer yankman has got his 7th gold!! The Serb should have won but at the last minute George Bush told the Serb PM that USA would wage a war on Terror on Serbia if they didnt let Phelps win. Somehow this was translated to The serbian swimmer in milliseconds via an earpiece in his ear telling him to let drugboy win else Serbia would be no more. This is on the BBC website if you dont believe me. I will not be online until next week but i just want people to know that i DO respect Phelps and i am just being my most obnoxious twattyness in all the derogatory remarks i have said about him. Still think USA is shitty shit shit though!!
Guest Posted 17 August 2008 Posted 17 August 2008 Any outstanding athletic achievement these days is going to be questioned (did you see the way Bolt took the piss on the track - phenomenal running). However, Sharon Davies and Adrian Moorhouse were discussing Phelps on the TV this morning, and this guy has slept, ate, trained and raced for years. He has had no life, to speak of, and has sacrificed a lot to be the best. I have a huge amount of respect for these people, and to know that after all the hard work you're going to have people thinking you've cheated would really piss me off.
