Fez of Mahrez Posted 23 August 2008 Posted 23 August 2008 Good to see you lot on the pitch at half-time, well done on all those promotions and good luck this season.

JoeyB Posted 23 August 2008 Posted 23 August 2008 Good to see you lot on the pitch at half-time, well done on all those promotions and good luck this season. You in the right thread matey?
Maybes Posted 23 August 2008 Posted 23 August 2008 Martin, one league and one cup game. Hobbs, a whole pre season. I think its just going a bit far when saying we should be buying him after hes only featured on a few outings. He had a few moments today when he got himself into a bit of trouble.
Staf Posted 23 August 2008 Posted 23 August 2008 Thought he had a pretty solid game, looked good in the air and looked very comanding. I thought some of his kicks where very dodgy but overall i thought he had a good game.
Jimmy Posted 23 August 2008 Author Posted 23 August 2008 You in the right thread matey? he was calling us a bunch of women ... Martin, one league and one cup game. Hobbs, a whole pre season. I think its just going a bit far when saying we should be buying him after hes only featured on a few outings. Jimmy Posted 23 August 2008 Author Posted 23 August 2008 I agree. which is why I said we should get him, as he is better then what we have (under permanent contract)
syston_fox Posted 23 August 2008 Posted 23 August 2008 fair enough but he is still far less likely to make a game changing blunder then Henderson, or at least I'm less fearful of it then when Henderson plays But what about when he went for that deep cross that he missed by a mile and on another day could have been turned in..... that could have changed the game if the tranmere player hadnt mis-cued his shot.
davieG Posted 23 August 2008 Posted 23 August 2008 The main advantage of Martin over Henderson is that he throws the ball more often than he hoofs it, Henderson is 99% hoooooooooooof!!!!
league1 Posted 23 August 2008 Posted 23 August 2008 We need a song like the Lloyd Dyer one for him What song you got for lloyd dyer? we used to sing "lloyd dyer my lord lloyd dyer " or posh spice is a slapper..... etc
The Reverend Posted 23 August 2008 Posted 23 August 2008 I didnt think he was that good. Certainly no better than Hendo. He even had one massive error today, when a cross came in, and he kicked 2 or 3 balls straight off the park, which isnt good enough. He is young, but hes no better than Hendo at the minute for me.

I agree I am not convinced yet, but we'll see A few nervous moments, but then I suppose he is young. More of an Alnwick than a Fulop for me at the min.
Thracian Posted 23 August 2008 Posted 23 August 2008 Some people are suffering from new boy syndrome. There was no way Martin looked any better than Henderson. He hardly had a save of any note to make and his major contribution was the catching of a deep cross when under pressure. On the downside his kicking was school team standard.

I'd say that both have their respective advantages over the other but the whole package is similar - thus rotating them in the way that used to be fashionable is no bad thing. I felt he offered a security of tenure that sometimes Hendo doesn't, his handling and reactions left me feeling more confident than Hendo does.
davieG Posted 24 August 2008 Posted 24 August 2008 There's not a lot of difference to date except Martin throws the ball out and we retain possession more often than not adding a variety to our play Hendo hoofs it out we lose possession more often than note that swings if for me.
Stig the Lawnmower Posted 24 August 2008 Posted 24 August 2008 I don't see how you can draw any conclusions about Martin - he's had nothing to do. to my mind the only really noticable points were throwing out - good, kicking out - bloody awful. I'll judge him when he's made a few saves.
