leicesterseddon Posted 23 August 2008 Posted 23 August 2008 From the OS: (sorry i don't know how to quote from it!) 'Don't Miss Out this Weekend' Tues 19th Aug '...And another bumper crowd is predicted for this weekend's fixture - which pitches the Foxes up against the side they beat in the final of the 2000 Wothington Cup at Wembley.' To the best of my recollection, the attendence today was one of the smallest league crowds we've ever had at the walkers since we moved there. I realise the club feel the need to talk up some of the less appealing games this season, but now they just look ****ing stupid. On the up side, i reckon the crowds this season will still hover just above 20k if we keep winning. Am i the only one that thinks the club are just making themselves look like complete fools?
Ultra Posted 23 August 2008 Posted 23 August 2008 A crowd of less than 18k was quite poor - especially given our decent start to the season. But a few more wins will see the attendances recover.
davieG Posted 23 August 2008 Posted 23 August 2008 Didn't Brum, unbeaten and top of the Championship only get around 17K perhaps fans are finally rebelling against the extortionate pricing.
Spiritwalker Posted 23 August 2008 Posted 23 August 2008 Agreed tbh I was expecting 25k for m.k and maybe 20k for today so however you dress it up the attendances so far have been disappointing. Another thing that amuses me is the O.S advising fans to get there early. Why?
Daggers Posted 23 August 2008 Posted 23 August 2008 Didn't Brum, unbeaten and top of the Championship only get around 17K perhaps fans are finally rebelling against the extortionate pricing. Bank holiday weekend - everyone has gone to Skeggy.
Karljohn Posted 24 August 2008 Posted 24 August 2008 It's just marketing. . they use the bumper crowd and "get here early" comment to generate excitement amongst ticketless fans! problem for the club is 99% of us can see through it. . as it doesnt cause a panic amongst those not holding a ticket its just merely a cry for more sales from the club who have 15k seats spare! For me and the missus to see 3rd tier football its 47.50 inc booking fees, we saw Kasabian the other night over at wolves civic for 46.00 inc booking fees - plus another two bands in over 3 hours of entertainment... Likewise I still think the walkers will accomodate 20k each home game but I can't justify 200 notes a month (inc travel, food etc) at the moment!

Agree with every word
MC Prussian Posted 24 August 2008 Posted 24 August 2008 A drop of attendance had to be expected... Less fairweather fans, a couple of disappointed ones, some that just don't want to come to the Walkers no longer. And the fact that ticket prices are a joke (apart from the ST offers). At least for League One level. But to be fair - who reads the OS, anyway?
Flynny Posted 25 August 2008 Posted 25 August 2008 I can't wait for the one before our mouth-watering clash against Hartlepool.
Nationwider Posted 25 August 2008 Posted 25 August 2008 Bank holiday weekend - everyone has gone to Skeggy. Bingo. Crowd would have been around 20k but for the BHW. We have this every year. Crowds are down in August generally as the season starts ever earlier. The floaters will rise to the surface for the Millwall and Pools games if we keep the run going before those games.

I expect a sell-out against Yeovil.

I ought to point out the impressive sale at Primark too. That'd kept a vast number away too.
samuel Posted 26 August 2008 Posted 26 August 2008 In terms of the Division, it was the highest attendance, so in effect it was a bumper crowd. With regards the OP, if you get annoyed by innocous terms like "Bumper crowd". Can i suggest getting out more?

Can i suggest getting out more? a crowd of just over 13k would have been the largest on that day - is that a big crowd? anyway, i would have thought saying 'bumper' would imply that the crowd was up (like a bumper harvest), not down like it was from the mk dons game. just irritates me a bit really
