Uncle Albert Posted 13 September 2008 Posted 13 September 2008 Martin. Dont see the need for another goalkeeper thread but if it gives people the chance to moan about players then... Carry on.

Jimmy Posted 13 September 2008 Author Posted 13 September 2008 Martin.Dont see the need for another goalkeeper thread but if it gives people the chance to moan about players then... Carry on. I posted it as people seem to be making Martin the scapegoat for today
Anish Posted 13 September 2008 Posted 13 September 2008 Yes you can. He put himself in no mans land when there was no need because there were two defenders around the striker. Somebody else who saw the same as me. Martin was completly in the wrong position for the goal (although it was Hobbs who lost the header and Morrison was nowhere near the striker to stop the shot). It's gotta be Hendo, though we all know he's not flawless.
Munzie Posted 13 September 2008 Posted 13 September 2008 With our current goalkeeping line-up, Hendo would be my choice as the best from an average bunch. Don't get me wrong, there have been times in the past when he doesn't fill me with confidence (corner's, high balls etc). Martin however, worries me every time he has somthing to do. He needs to sort his kicking out and read of the game. Also, he does not command our defence whatsoever. I appreciate that he is here to gain first team experience but not at the expense of us please. Like many have said, Hendo did nothing wrong to get dropped in the first place. Now he has spent some time warming the bench, he will have a point to prove, just like the end of last season.

dandannieldanok Posted 13 September 2008 Posted 13 September 2008 The most baffling thing about all this is Pearson's decision to drop a keeper yet to concede, I'll never manage to fathom the thinking behind that one.
syston_fox Posted 13 September 2008 Posted 13 September 2008 when he 1st came back in last season he was worse then ever For two games! One of them in the cup in which no one played well and was a truly awful game. Goal keepers have bad games and when they do then they're picked up on them more than ever. You keep harping on back to those two games in which he didnt play to the best of his abilities and seem to forget his confident displays towards the back end of last season where he won us a good deal of points with fine shot stopping and in my opinion cost us none. Some people will talk about Sheff Utd where he should arguably have saved one of the goals but we were facing a losing battle there anyway as soon as we were down to ten men. Henderson has more than proved himself and people need to get off his back! One mistake he's made in his games this season and it didnt even lead to a shot on goal from stockport. He hasn't even conceeded a goal for christs sake and lets face facts - the conditions at Hartlepool were a nightmare for goalkeepers and he still kept a clean sheet. We're fortunate to have two good quality goal keepers for this level and with either of them in between the sticks we should be ok so can we not have this same argument after every game???

I swear I read that knowitall said that Liverpool told Leicester they wanted Martin to be playing first team football
JoelGoddard Posted 14 September 2008 Posted 14 September 2008 Henderson should be in for sure. Martin was caught out horribly yesterday with the goal. If he was going to come off his line (which really, he didn't need to do) then he should have come out quickly to meet the striker. Instead he neither came out, nor stayed on his line which gave Alexander enough time and space to knock it over him. He doesn't seem to communicate effectively with the defence either, proven by that near mix-up with Tunchev in the second half when he came racing out of the area to clear a through ball. Admittedly it could have been a language issue with Tunchev, but if he gave a big enough shout then there would have been no confusion. Henderson's form at the end of last season was impressve to say the least, and he did nothing to warrant being dropped this season.
Sods Posted 14 September 2008 Posted 14 September 2008 Still think Martin is the better keeper. I dont really mind whos in goal though.

You description of the goal suggests he was lobbed while standing around the penalty spot - after watching the goal, i really don't see what you're on about. He was on the edge of the six yard box, a decent position - i notice he was moving back a touch, but that may have been from his original starting position for the flick on - had that gone further away from Alexander he could have been on hand to pick it up - but there was no chance of that. The shot itself was one that any keeper would have found difficult to get to - the goal was well taken. I can't see how you can blame Martin for that goal.
Hackneyisblue Posted 15 September 2008 Posted 15 September 2008 We're fortunate to have two good quality goal keepers for this level and with either of them in between the sticks we should be ok so can we not have this same argument after every game??? We don't have a decent goalie if you took the best of all four of them. Get a new one in quick, I really don't want to see Henderson ever play for us again.
Sooper Steve's shin Posted 15 September 2008 Posted 15 September 2008 I swear I read that knowitall said that Liverpool told Leicester they wanted Martin to be playing first team football Not sure what's already been said on here, but I would have thought that was pretty obvious - what's in it for the loaning club or the player if he's brought in to sit on our bench? In any case, I think Pearson's on record as saying he will only bring in loan players if he thinks they can do a job in the first team probably on the similar basis that there's no point spending money and/or taking up our allocated loan spaces with players who aren't good enough to get in the first team. The goalkeeper position is even more understandable because no-one throws a keeper on as a tactical change, so a substitute keeper is unlikely to get game time. If Martin was being brought in just to sit on our bench, you would have to argue why a youth teamer couldn't do the same job. If Hendo then got injured, we'd have the option of recalling Logan or maybe even going for an emergency loan.
Lovejoy Posted 15 September 2008 Posted 15 September 2008 Who's that young Polish keeper we've got (think he's Polisish anyway)? Is he any good?
