Benjani Posted 15 September 2008 Posted 15 September 2008 Just wondering if anyone has ever experienced one of these? I have had one at Sainsbury's before but wasn't a group interview, and have heard it is definitely within a group at Homebase. It's tomorrow so if anyone could help at all would appreciate it

James. Posted 15 September 2008 Posted 15 September 2008 1. Dress smart 2. Shake hands firmly 3. Look them in the eye when you talk 4. Have questions prepared 5. Don't tell them your only weakness is that you're a perfectionist 6. Do tell them you think B&Q is f**king shit
Benjani Posted 15 September 2008 Author Posted 15 September 2008 No I haven't but let me know how it goes, and what it's like.I'm trying to get an interview at places like this. Oh right well if you have applied to places and appeared not to have replied then be patient.. I handed my CV into this place over a month ago and only just phoned me about 4 hours ago to tell me there will be an interview tomorrow. I no all the basic stuff, e.g. being confident and working in a team. But what should I wear! A few of my mates who have worked there in the past say to wear jeans and a polo shirt but I don't no!

That's always one of my main problems for interviews. For work experience (in a bank) I dressed up smart with tie etc and they were all wearing jeans and shite. I guess it's better to be the only one dressed smart than the only one dressed casual.

My advise would NEVER go to an interview in jeans and polo shirt, if it was myself, no matter what job I had applied for I would turn up in a Suit, if you don't own a suit smart trousers, shirt and tie. You feel far more confident wearing a tie and ceates a good impression, you've made the effort for the interview, you'll make the effort at work is what they will think!
Lamby Posted 15 September 2008 Posted 15 September 2008 I had a kinda one at the CO-OP, went alright, try and makes jokes with them aswell. Didnt get the job though, c***s.
Jay Posted 15 September 2008 Posted 15 September 2008 background knowledge!! do your research on the company take a look at the website make a mental note of some of the facts, history etc for example if they ask what do you know about B&Q? at which point you could say... they were formed in 1969 are currently the number 1 DIY retailer in Europe with over 300 shops and employ over 39000 people

It's Homebase
DB11 Posted 15 September 2008 Posted 15 September 2008 what do you know about B&Q? Surely the good answer to that one would be not a lot
Tilley Posted 15 September 2008 Posted 15 September 2008 I had a group interview today, went well I think. As James says, dress smart.
Jay Posted 15 September 2008 Posted 15 September 2008 he aint getting the job then! It's Homebase HA HA!! WHAT A COMPLETE TWAT I AM!!! same principle though... infact it's almost the same facts Homebase is the UK’s second largest home improvement retailer It has more than 300 large, out-of-town stores throughout the UK and Republic of Ireland, and is planning to add to its store chain with around 15 new stores a year.
Brainy Posted 15 September 2008 Posted 15 September 2008 6. Do tell them you think B&Q is f**king shit Thanks
Samilktray Posted 15 September 2008 Posted 15 September 2008 Dont take any advice off me. Mr Sam 'Ive failed about 10 job interviews' milktray. Oh..... Im no longer Lucy.
samingram_uk Posted 15 September 2008 Posted 15 September 2008 2. Shake hands firmly A firm handsake starts and finshes the deal, also shows good character apprently.
Joe. Posted 15 September 2008 Posted 15 September 2008 I had one of these before I got my job at WH Smith. Basically if it's a group interview, make sure you get involved. They're probably not going to hire you if you stay silent for the whole interview. Even if this is the case, you should have chance to make up for it with a one-to-one interview afterwards. Good luck with it all.
Benjani Posted 15 September 2008 Author Posted 15 September 2008 Thanks for all the comments people! I had one of these before I got my job at WH Smith. Basically if it's a group interview, make sure you get involved. They're probably not going to hire you if you stay silent for the whole interview. Even if this is the case, you should have chance to make up for it with a one-to-one interview afterwards. Good luck with it all. Ah right, what did everyone wear when you did it? And what questions are asked in the group interview. One thing i do know is that the interviewer is called Raj...surely not! haha.
Tabou Posted 16 September 2008 Posted 16 September 2008 1) Firm Polite hand shake, smile, make eye contact. 2) Answer questions slowly, confidently, and with assertion. Never say "errr, ummm". 3) Do ask questions. 4) Volunteer to answer questions. 5) Positive answers only. If your asked about your lack of experience in DiY, tell them that you believe your "Hard work, commitment and focus will help be to gain experience and relevant skills very quickly". Employers love that positive shit. 6) Speak properly. Even if you have some of that gangstar rap/Leicester accent thing going on, make the effort to change. Hope this helps. I have never failed to be offered the job/2nd interview in any interviews I have been to . So it does work!
Trav Le Bleu Posted 16 September 2008 Posted 16 September 2008 That's always one of my main problems for interviews. For work experience (in a bank) I dressed up smart with tie etc and they were all wearing jeans and shite. I guess it's better to be the only one dressed smart than the only one dressed casual. Too right! I once got a job and the deciding factor, my boss told me many months later, had been that I was the only who had dressed smart.
Zingari Posted 16 September 2008 Posted 16 September 2008 go dressed like this and make lots of double entendres about screws, knobs, plumbing and pipes etc
poynton blue Posted 16 September 2008 Posted 16 September 2008 Just wondering if anyone has ever experienced one of these?I have had one at Sainsbury's before but wasn't a group interview, and have heard it is definitely within a group at Homebase. It's tomorrow so if anyone could help at all would appreciate it You will have to work weekends Sod that
jonno24 Posted 16 September 2008 Posted 16 September 2008 I did weekends when i was at morrisons the social life went rite down the shitter
Joe. Posted 16 September 2008 Posted 16 September 2008 Ah right, what did everyone wear when you did it? And what questions are asked in the group interview. One thing i do know is that the interviewer is called Raj...surely not! haha. It wasn't really questions as part of the group interview. First of all you had to tell the rest of the group a bit about the person to your left (after talking to them of course) and then there was activities within small groups. It was a pretty good experience to be honest.
