Legend_in_blue Posted 21 September 2008 Posted 21 September 2008 Ok. So one of the best FPS's ever made gets a sequel and it's almost here. You've got to be pumped up about this one surely? PcGamer has reviewed it already and given it 94%. This has got to be one of those must buys. I like the fact that firing shotguns, rpgs, rifles etc sometimes gives you misfires. That's pretty cool. Also, it's not too linear either and you can do what the heck you like. If the online is approaching COD4 in terms of greatness, then this could quality. Fingers crossed.

Phube Posted 21 September 2008 Posted 21 September 2008 It's all about the tree regeneration!! Loads of vids (including tree regeneration!) here!
Legend_in_blue Posted 21 September 2008 Author Posted 21 September 2008 It's all about the tree regeneration!! Loads of vids (including tree regeneration!) here! It kind of makes the destructible environments in Star Wars The Force Unleashed look a little retarded tbh. At the moment, from what I've seen, this game looks quality.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 22 September 2008 Posted 22 September 2008 The original Far Cry is the only FPS I ever gave up on due to being too hard
Legend_in_blue Posted 24 September 2008 Author Posted 24 September 2008 IGN just previewed the game. The only flaw they could come up with was to do with the save points. Not enough of them apparently and should you find yourself on the wrong end of the gunfire, you could find yourself going 30 minutes back to replay the section. This however will be addressed in the final code of the game. Fingers crossed. The preview ends with this... "This gripe aside, Far Cry 2 is looking incredibly impressive. Bold in both scope and execution, our first few hours in the game suggested that this could be one of the most interesting and thought-provoking propositions amidst the tide of first class titles that are coming our way in the next few months. We'd even go as far to say that if the problems we came across are ironed out, Far Cry 2 could be this year's BioShock, and it shows signs of being as assured in its interweaving of design and narrative as Ken Levine's revered opus. A big claim, perhaps, but we're itching to get back to the jungle and see where Ubisoft take us next." Sound. This is going to look sweet on my tv.
Phube Posted 25 September 2008 Posted 25 September 2008 Just got Far Cry for my PC (for £3.00). Playing at the mo'! Really good so far!
Bellend Sebastian Posted 25 September 2008 Posted 25 September 2008 I'm going to have to buy a new PC, aren't I?

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 25 September 2008 Posted 25 September 2008 This game does look incredible.
Legend_in_blue Posted 25 September 2008 Author Posted 25 September 2008 Just got Far Cry for my PC (for £3.00).Playing at the mo'! Really good so far! That is an absolute bargain. You wait until those quick running monsters charge at you. It's damn hard.
Legend_in_blue Posted 25 September 2008 Author Posted 25 September 2008 I'm going to have to buy a new PC, aren't I? It's going to require a beefy graphics card. No doubt. My 6600 is looking a bit dated now tbh. 2gb RAM and a 9 series geforce card should do the trick.

It was relatively difficult, but I like a challenge. I bloody hate getting into a game and then find I've finished it two nights later
Legend_in_blue Posted 23 October 2008 Author Posted 23 October 2008 This one is now in the post and will arrive tomorrrow. Although I don't see how this can be any better than Dead Space. I've read that it's very hard though and takes a while to get into. Quality. I like a challenge. COD4 is too easy.
samlcfc Posted 24 October 2008 Posted 24 October 2008 anyone seen the map editor on this.looks insane, like something you could never be bothered to do ureself, how ever I believe u can dwnload other peoples and play them. I've seen one where someones actually created the Eiffel tower and its surroundings using girders and stuff . theres one of a football stadium also but cnt remember which one . its on www.gamespot.com

Legend_in_blue Posted 24 October 2008 Author Posted 24 October 2008 just bought it, what a game!ive started 4 fires already, and it looks so real!! I am still waiting for this game. Missed the post this morning so now I've got to trek to the post office tomorrow for it! Glad you like it though. It has to be good though, I only go for good games. Dead Space is taking up my time quite nicely at the mo. It is incredible.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 27 October 2008 Posted 27 October 2008 Played it this morning round a friends. Dissapointed is certainly the word for me.
Legend_in_blue Posted 27 October 2008 Author Posted 27 October 2008 Played it this morning round a friends.Dissapointed is certainly the word for me. You would be disappointed, and I can understand why. It's certainly a frustrating game to get into. You need to devote 2 hours to it at the start before you make any sort of headway in the game. That's partly down to the amount of side missions and minor distractions that you can find yourself attending to apart from the main missions in the game. And secondly, it's frustrating because of the travel times between locations and those ******* guard posts along the roadside that slow you down. Once you're on a mission, it's a great blast and quite a challenge. But getting to it, extremely annoying at times. Ok, so in Oblivion you could trek for miles and sometimes it was a bind, but in this game it's far worse. You can't fast track to any previous visited location. This would have been clever, but then this is Ubisoft. Assassins Creed had you treking for miles over the same landscape too. Also, you take out a guardpost, you complete a mission, 1 hour later you drive past the same guardpost, and the enemies are back. Annoying. It's even more annoying when you've been travelling to a mission for 10 minutes of your time, you come across one of these posts and die there, having to restart all the way back from where you started. It's annoying when you have to pop pills right in the middle of a gunfight and end up getting shot at because you can't defend yourself when taking pills. (You end up with malaria at the start of the game). I've never once taken the pills yet when strolling through fields with nowt to do. It's a good game, but it has it's fair share of frustrations. Ubisoft have managed once again to deliver us with frustrating gameplay that could have been avoided. If you're thinking of getting this, my advice would be this - if you got through Assassins Creed, then get it, otherwise if Assassins Creed had you falling asleep through sheer monotonous boredom and repetition after 2 hours, don't bother getting this game. It surprises me that even with this effort from Ubisoft, they still manage to put in the same repetitive avoidable tasks that plagued Assassins Creed also. They should learn from their mistakes. Dead Space on the other hand is far more engaging right from the off.
Gav_LCFC Posted 27 October 2008 Posted 27 October 2008 Got it on friday traded it in today for deadspace. Farcry 2 isnt really that good, takes 20 minutes to get anywhere, then for some reason some little b*stards start shooting at me for no reason. Completed it thought it was average the graphics are amazing though but just didnt interest me as much as i thought it would do. Get Deadspace instead.

I've spent 10 hours and I'm at 42% completion. Just entered the lower half of the map. Here was me hoping for no more guardposts and more frequent bus stops. No such luck. It's beginning to feel more like a chore playing through this rather than an enjoyable, engaging experience. I tried the online and didn't like it. If it ain't as good as COD4, why do game developers bother? Unfortunately, I bought both this and Dead Space at the same time so I can't trade in just yet. Might well do though, even if I don't finish it. I hope Fallout 3 does not disappoint.

Both myself and The Reverend think so. So it is. I'm on chapter 6 now, having narrowly escaped 'that' monster in chapter 5. It just gets better and better.
