Video Game Sales Data

Recommended Posts

I know you all just want to use this Forum for ( ) FIFA/PES/CM etc... but here's some gaming sales news:

New figures from data specialist GfK Chart Track have revealed the current installed base for console hardware in the UK.

As of September 2008, the PlayStation 3 has reached 1.4 million units, the Xbox 360 2.3 million and the Wii 3.6 million units.

The numbers show considerable growth from 2007 – both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 have shifted a million units since the same period last year when their installed base was 0.4 million and 1.3 million, respectively.

However, it's Nintendo's Wii that has boomed in the region, from 1.1 million units in September 2007 to the current 3.6 million units.

In the battle of the handhelds, the DS has also shot up in the UK from 3.8 million to 7.1 million units in the space of a year, while the PSP has registered a more modest growth in comparison, from 2.2 million to 2.9 million units.

The installed base for all five consoles has almost doubled in the UK from 8.8 million to 17.3 million in twelve months

The data comes from High Street retailer The Game Group, which estimates that by Christmas the installed base for the Wii will reach 4.9 million units, the Xbox 360 2.8 million and the PS3 1.9 million units.

DS units are expected to climb a further 1.2 million to 8.3 million and the PSP to 3.1 million.

It's a real shame that Nintendo has taken the spotlight with regards to the gaming market since the development of the next gen platform.

Unfortunately, the next gen market really still hasn't got into full swing as of yet, as developers look for ways of making a quick buck or two, rather than ploughing lots of resources into a next gen title which has a greater potential to flop and lose them greater money.

Cheap and cheerful looks like it's the way to go and Nintendo doesn't disappoint in that respect.

The sooner the mass market goes fully next gen, buys the HDTV, buys the Bluray player etc etc the sooner most people can dust off that wii just one more time before selling it on ebay along with a list of average (at best) party games.

lol But by the time most of the populous have gone fully HD, Wii 2 will be out.. and all those people who bought a Wii will have the name in their concious... Nintendo are geniuses FACT!

Those stats just confirm that the British public are a bunch of retards.....

The profit/loss is world wide!

I don't even know how a Wii can be described as a console, its just a gimmick.

You are absolutely correct in your deductions. However, because it's cheap and cheerful, people are drawn to it more than anything hardcore.

Many games on the system are substandard compared to the competition yet they still sell more. And some games even sell at the same price!

People in this country are a little bit daft. And £120 for Wii Fit? No thanks.

Yes, you have to be hardcore to spend about a grand on a proper gaming computer. Or have far too much money.

you can get a 'proper' one for £600...

Still think consoles, and especially the software for them, are unbelievably expensive for what they do...

They're expensive at the start when they come out, for what they do.

But i'm a console man, always have been, always will be, and dont particularly like mouse & keyboard (apart from some games). And now the online for consoles is improving all the time.

The Wii's aimed at a different market - the family, hence all the clips of family's in their adds, and hence there success. They've sold to a market that the PS3 and XBOX don't really cater for.

Some of the games are well done on the wii, but there are also some very poor efforts. Wii sports is very addictive and Tiger's great. I loved the baseball on the Wii so was excited when i saw a proper baseball game on it - but sadly that was durge.

Player interaction is where it's at - just look at guitar hero!
