Daggers Posted 20 November 2008 Posted 20 November 2008 Lay off Matty!by Steve Pumfrey A Leicester City supporters' group has called on Matty Fryatt's critics to get off the striker's back. They are worried in case the carping sways his thinking about staying at the Walkers Stadium. As City confirmed that negotiations are continuing with Fryatt's representatives over a new contract, the Independent Supporters Association has expressed fears over "negative comments" which may unsettle him. Chairman Lance Tomlyn said: "I seem to be reading an increasing amount of negative letters regarding Matty Fryatt, and I believe they may have a damaging effect on the club in the long run." The 22-year-old striker, who joined City from Walsall in January 2006, has notched 15 league and cup goals this campaign, but his three-and-a-half year contract expires at the end of the season. Tomlyn, below, expects other clubs to make an approach for Fryatt during the January transfer window. Tomlyn said: "My fear is that Matty will be aware of all this negativity from a small section of the fans, and when other clubs come calling, as they surely will in January, he won't feel he is wanted and will take a walk. Then where will that leave us? "There's only one player in this division who can better his scoring record, and if Bristol Rovers aren't willing to sell us Rickie Lambert (16 league and cup goals) then we will either have to pay over the odds to get someone to drop down a division or take a chance on someone with less talent." There has already been speculation about Fryatt's future, with one national newspaper noting Derby County's apparent interest in the player. Tomlyn said: "I saw one letter which said, €˜The problem is that he will probably score 25 goals this season and then we'll give him a new contract to play in the Championship where he isn't good enough'. "If that's €˜a problem' then let's have some more of them. I think this guy is getting a bit ahead of himself as we are far from promoted yet, and if Fryatt scores 25 goals in the process of us doing so, then I for one will be delighted and I would welcome him getting a new contract. "Matty wasn't fit for a lot of the past two seasons, but if you remember back to when he first joined the club he, along with Iain Hume, scored the goals that kept us up under Rob Kelly, so he is already a proven Championship striker." Tomlyn's comments have been endorsed by Cliff Ginnetta, chairman of the City Supporters Club. Ginnetta said: "It doesn't matter how well a player does, it doesn't stop people having a go. "Matty had a difficult time last season with injury and being out of favour at times, but his attitude in the summer was spot-on. He's done really well." Tomlyn & Ginetta. It's like when Marvell and DC did a cross-over series. Kapow!
Ric Flair Posted 20 November 2008 Posted 20 November 2008 Tomlyn & Ginetta. It's like when Marvell and DC did a cross-over series. Kapow! That article is insane, talk about trying to stir up trouble. Fryatt is absolutely loved by the majority of the paying public at Leicester, it's very rare he is given any level of abuse from our fans like Howard gets. There might be the odd moaner ring up on the radio or write some bollocks to the boys at The Mercury, but it doesn't warrant an embarrassing article like this. The lad is on 15 goals after a third of the season, if that continues he could get between 40-50 goals (admittedly we are out of most of the cups now). Crazy article, I bet Fryatt and the rest of the players are pissing themselves.

There again, the Trust seem to have gone all sensible recently - what with their campaigning on an issue actually relating to supporters.

EnigmaticFox Posted 21 November 2008 Posted 21 November 2008 fook OFF Derby Scum Hmm interesting, anyone who supports their own team are 'scum,' are they? Would you consider yourself 'scum then'? Working on your assumption, that anyone who supports an opposing team are scum, you are must be the same too, from an another 'scums,' point of view, of course, based upon Einsteins General Theory of Relativity Cheers
