Nod.E Posted 7 October 2008 Posted 7 October 2008 I'm a bit worried if i'm honest. I'm doing English Literature, Physics, ICT and Statistics at A level, and i'm not quite sure where i'm gonna end up with it? I'd guess at this for my A/S results.... Physics: D or C English: B or A IT: B or A Stats: B Gen Studs: No Idea? My GCSE's were.... 3 A*'s (Double IT, R.E) 3 A's (Two English, Business.) 4 B's (Maths, Double Science, Humanities) C in French Basically, today I just found everything a bit, well - it involved a lot of effort, which obviously is part and parcel of A level. But I just began to wonder, is all of this effort going to pay off? Because what would I do at Uni? My A levels are pretty much all core subjects which makes Uni a bit solid? I have no idea what job I want either. I just don't really know where I want to go, or where I can go? Anyone who knows anything I don't, would put my head to rest. Cheers.

It all depends on which Uni you choose. I got into Leicester with 3C's, and I'd say thats quite achieveble from your AS grades. Just realised the grades aren't really your problem anyway I should learn to read more

SO many of the Uni courses I looked at didn't require specific A-levels, so it doesn't really matter what A-levels you do for some courses, although obviously it's better to do a subject you know about already The most common A-level that was required for courses I looked at was Maths which is needed for most Computer programming type degrees and Engineering degrees. Well what I mean is you won't be restricted to certain courses because of the A-levels you do, but you'll be restricted by the ones you don't do, if you get me

Glad I did it because the maths I'm doing now is solid.
Uncle Monty Posted 7 October 2008 Posted 7 October 2008 I think it's who you know plus experience, i got on to a good degree course with only 3 gcse's
potter3 Posted 7 October 2008 Posted 7 October 2008 Yeah I needed maths for Computer Science. Glad I did it because the maths I'm doing now is solid. Yeah a lot of the courses I wanted to do at first needed Maths A2 so I'd have had to do another year in 6th form
act smiley Posted 7 October 2008 Posted 7 October 2008 Really? I found a few years back that the top end tend to, but most of the middling types of unis will generally not be quite so picky about maths - they'll tend to ask for something along those lines but with Statistics, I'd guess they'd not be hugely fussed. I mean, I got into Cardiff with a D in Maths, and a fair few either had AS's or in some cases no A(S)-level in it at all. With IT and Stats, I can't imagine too much trouble getting onto a decent Computer Science course, even if it would likely make things a little tougher when there.
Floating Fox Posted 7 October 2008 Posted 7 October 2008 If you haven't done so yet, goto a ucas faire. Where all the different uni's come and give you prospectuses, certainly showed me where I wanted to go mate.

Finnegan Posted 8 October 2008 Posted 8 October 2008 What Potter said. I did Film and Journalism (move aside, Thracian!) for my BA and have English Literature, Comms and General fookin' Studies as A-Levels, . Your A-Levels need to be relevant, sure, but that's a pretty broad field. Physics and Statistics are meant to be hard, but if you stick it out and get anything C+ in either you're going to be looking fairly comfortable. Get As in both and you'll walk into a lot of courses, heh. General studies is some free UCAS points. I was doing ICT, Performing Arts (fuck off), Comms and Lit and dropped PA after about a week. Three was the minimum Longslade would let me do so I had to take up Gen Studs when I wanted to drop ICT, this is about two months before the end of A2! Just turned up for the exams and got a C - it really is just about writing some opinions down on paper. Stupidest thing in the world to do is chucking in your A-Levels, in my opinion. I have no problems with making education compulsory 'til 18, but then I'm an intellectual snob.
