JakeShingler Posted 17 October 2008 Posted 17 October 2008 David Beckham is reportedly considering a return to the Premiership in a bid to prolong his international career. The Daily Telegraph reports that the former England captain, who made his 107th appearance for his country on Wednesday in Minsk, is 'seeking' a return to England. With LA Galaxy, Beckham's Major League Soccer side, likely to be eliminated from the end-of-season play-offs, the 33-year-old is set to be out of club action until next April unless he moves back across the Atlantic. 'Although the former England captain trained with Arsenal in January, that move failed to convince Capello that he should select Beckham for England's friendly against Switzerland in February,' the newspaper reports. 'Beckham, 33, knows he needs top-class first-team football if he is to add to his 107 England caps. 'His advisers are in talks with Arsenal about training again with Arsene Wenger's side ahead of the friendly against Germany in Berlin on Nov 19. If selected, Beckham would equal the 108-cap outfield record of World Cup-winning captain Bobby Moore. He is also interested in joining a Premier League club and is looking to get permission from LA Galaxy.' Although the newspaper doesn't specifically say so, a loan deal may be the most feasible option for Beckham. While his box-office rating will make him an appealing prospective short-term signing for many Premiership clubs, his wages may prove a problem, if not prohibitive. What do you think?
Corky Posted 17 October 2008 Posted 17 October 2008 Why does he need to return? He's still playing for England while he's at LA Galaxy.
Jimmy Posted 17 October 2008 Posted 17 October 2008 Why does he need to return? He's still playing for England while he's at LA Galaxy. because he wouldn't be playing for LA Galaxy and Capello has shown if you're not playing you won't get picked (unless you name is Wayne Bridge)
Alexikokopops Posted 17 October 2008 Posted 17 October 2008 Why does he need to return? He's still playing for England while he's at LA Galaxy. I'm guessing this is why: With LA Galaxy, Beckham's Major League Soccer side, likely to be eliminated from the end-of-season play-offs, the 33-year-old is set to be out of club action until next April unless he moves back across the Atlantic. 'Although the former England captain trained with Arsenal in January, that move failed to convince Capello that he should select Beckham for England's friendly against Switzerland in February,' the newspaper reports. dandannieldanok Posted 17 October 2008 Posted 17 October 2008 Surely he wouldn't be so desperate to leave Los Angeles to prolong an international career dwindling into cameo sub roles. He certainly wouldn't get anywhere near the top four teams and would probably have to settle for a Wigan or a Middlesborough, no offense to them but it's hardly LA. I know it would only be short-term but it just seems rather pointless to me. I think people (i.e. this articles writer and the fans that still hallow the turf he runs on) need to accept Beckham's England career is practically over, unless we have injuries to both Walcott and SWP at the same time then I can't see why he'd be picked to start a game again.

He just wants to be be involved with his country, this is a bigger showing of passion for his country then anyone else in and around the England squad. Cant stand all the people who get on his back, his delivery is still second to none. I'd like him to continue to be involved for as long as possible.
dandannieldanok Posted 17 October 2008 Posted 17 October 2008 He just wants to be be involved with his country, this is a bigger showing of passion for his country then anyone else in and around the England squad. I don't get why people say this, if he desperately wanted to stay in the England fold as no.1 winger for as long as possible why go to LA in the first place. His first thought was the money and the lifestyle, nothing whatsoever to do with the football, and anyone trying to deny this really needs to get their facts straight. Could somebody tell me a real reason as to why they think this man shows more passion than say a Theo Walcott, John Terry, Emile Heskey, Wayne Rooney....................

The fact your questioning his commitment to England isnt even worth a reply.
dandannieldanok Posted 17 October 2008 Posted 17 October 2008 The fact your questioning his commitment to England isnt even worth a reply. Because there isn't a worthy reply perhaps
Brainy Posted 17 October 2008 Posted 17 October 2008 Because there isn't a worthy reply perhaps Yep most likely.
Bryn Posted 17 October 2008 Posted 17 October 2008 If he seriously wants to play for England he'll take any Premier League offer regardless of the money on offer (within reason, obviously he's worthy of a PL wage but not an relatively excessive one). I think he probably will come back to England, the guy obviously does want to play football and not playing til April would be intolerable.

Please tell me because I've missed it somewhere along the line. For me, If he was desperate to prolong his England career he would have stayed in Europe (back in England or elsewhere) after leaving Real Madrid, not moving to Los Angeles which he could easily do when he retired.

He said he wants to make football more popular stateside, bit of a challenge for him wouldnt you say. Give him a break.
JakeShingler Posted 17 October 2008 Author Posted 17 October 2008 I think he might go Arsenal. But im sure he said id he came back it would be for United.
Tevez Posted 17 October 2008 Posted 17 October 2008 Wouldn't suprise me if he went Arsenal, Man City or Villa.
dandannieldanok Posted 17 October 2008 Posted 17 October 2008 He said he wants to make football more popular stateside, bit of a challenge for him wouldnt you say.Give him a break. Well then question answered, his passion for and commitment for England is not there if he believes "making football more popular stateside" is his challenge. You can't do both I'm afraid, especially when you're not that good a player anymore. For the record, I don't believe for one minute that his reason for going to LA is to "make football more popular stateside".
Samilktray Posted 17 October 2008 Posted 17 October 2008 Wouldn't suprise me if he went Arsenal, Man City or Villa. Man City, Good shout.
JakeShingler Posted 17 October 2008 Author Posted 17 October 2008 Wouldn't suprise me if he went Arsenal, Man City or Villa. OOh would love to see him at Villa.
Joe. Posted 17 October 2008 Posted 17 October 2008 He's not good enough for a big four team anymore that's for sure. I'm not really sure what sort of arrangement LA Galaxy, Beckham and a future club could come to It's very unlikely.

JakeShingler Posted 17 October 2008 Author Posted 17 October 2008 he could just go on loan until the start of the new MLS season Surely he would need a break.
Joe. Posted 17 October 2008 Posted 17 October 2008 he could just go on loan until the start of the new MLS season Surely Galaxy would want him in the States 'promoting'? If he went on loan, somebody's got to pay his wages, and lets face it, for what you'd get he's blatantly not worth it with what he's on.
Moreton Posted 17 October 2008 Posted 17 October 2008 Man City, Good shout. Yes. If he would come back to the Premier League, my money would be on Manchester City to snap him up.
The Stig Posted 17 October 2008 Posted 17 October 2008 It would be very interesting to see but I doubt it will happen.
