davieG Posted 18 October 2008 Posted 18 October 2008 Leicester City's Academy side bounced back from last week's Premier Academy League defeat as they cruised to a 5-0 victory against Reading at Belvoir Drive on Saturday. Two goals apiece from Ricky Sappleton and Billy Kee secured the points before a strike from Ben Milnes rounded off a convincing victory for the Foxes. After a lacklustre opening period it took a neat move between Sappleton and Lee Cox on 15 minutes to produce the first opportunity - Sappleton finding space to lob the Reading goalkeeper and put the Foxes ahead. Kee then tried his luck from long range before Cian Bolger cleared a goal-bound header at the other end. Robbie Burns was unfortunate not to extend Leicester's lead as his shot was turned around the post just before the break. The home side continued to dominate after the restart and doubled their advantage within three minutes - Kee creating space to arrow the ball into the corner of the goal. Craig King saw his header narrowly miss the target after connecting with a Joe Cobb cross before Sappleton grabbed his second with a low strike from sixteen yards on the hour. A quick free-kick from Luke O'Neill on 65 minutes presented Kee with another opportunity - the striker finding the net at the second attempt to put the Foxes four ahead. The home side rounded off the scoring five minutes later as substitute Ben Milnes made the most of some sloppy defending by lashing the ball into the top corner from twenty yards. Leicester City's U18 side return to action in a fortnight when they travel to Aston Villa. City: Ambusics, Cobb, Bolger, Garner, O'Neill, Hicks (Milnes 45), Cox (Hoban 76), Burns, C King, Sappleton (Chamberlain 66)
dilko2008 Posted 18 October 2008 Posted 18 October 2008 is it me or is billy kee missed out that line up?
davieG Posted 18 October 2008 Author Posted 18 October 2008 is it me or is billy kee missed out that line up? It was from the OS He could have had 7 with a bit more accuracy and luck. Reading were simply no contest.
Thracian Posted 18 October 2008 Posted 18 October 2008 People mention Craig King as first team material but I'd like to see Billy Kee stay at full fitness and put some matches together. Cos at his best he's one dangerous striker, almost like a teenaged Arthur Rowley the way he looks to whack shots from anywhere. As for him and Sapp together... if they were anything like their snarling best - and four goals shared between them suggests they were - the Reading boys must have thought they'd been thrown to the lions.
syston_fox Posted 18 October 2008 Posted 18 October 2008 Well I do declare that Ricky still has it. If you had to have one though, would it be Ricky or Big Steve?
lildave3 Posted 18 October 2008 Posted 18 October 2008 If you had to have one though, would it be Ricky or Big Steve? I think it's Big Steve these days tbh, that loan spell at Bournemouth has knocked the Rick-shaw down.

JakeShingler Posted 18 October 2008 Posted 18 October 2008 is it me or is billy kee missed out that line up? And John i think.
Jimmy Posted 18 October 2008 Posted 18 October 2008 how long do we think it'll be before Kee is ready for a 1st team cameo?

Ash Posted 19 October 2008 Posted 19 October 2008 Wonder if A.Chambers will go with the U18s or ressies when he comes back?
Jimmy Posted 19 October 2008 Posted 19 October 2008 Wonder if A.Chambers will go with the U18s or ressies when he comes back? prolly start with the U18's to get games again then move back up
Thracian Posted 19 October 2008 Posted 19 October 2008 Wonder if A.Chambers will go with the U18s or ressies when he comes back? I'm starting to have some concern about Ashley. He's a talented and explosive player but seems to be on his third or fourth serioius injury in a relatively short time and that's not a good sign. Injuries have taken their toll on Weso and it's looking the same for AC. Both could do with a spell of steady but uninterrupted football.

No offense but all these player you hype about are they actually that good? Levi Porter was meant to be the next best thing can't get in a league one team Max Gradel - Looking average atm Ash Chambers - broke his leg (twice?) but would have been in the first team if he was that good...... Weso - Farmed out on loan Logan - the same Just seems to me that too many of our younger players are being hyped up to much, not having a moan, just saying........

He may go out on loan before Christmas though, both to prove his fitness and to to get some games under his belt.

Weso - Farmed out on loan Logan - the same Just seems to me that too many of our younger players are being hyped up to much, not having a moan, just saying........ a) I don't recall being especially praising of Weso and Logan other than to say that, in past situations, they were better than what we had. Weso's perfectly capable of playing for our first team and doing well as has been the case many times in the past. But he's a rather more limited player than King and he's not going to get the captain's place. b) While Chambers has impressed at times and clearly has ability I have long expressed concern about his injury problems and have been less than convinced that he's first team material as yet. c) Porter showed his capabilities against Chelsea and had as good a period of 30 games for our club as any attacking player we had. His problem at the moment is simply that Dyer is justifying being first choice and no-one else apart from Daggers seems willing to consider him as a central midfielder. Whatever, the lad is a good player within the context of our club and I've seen nothing to change my mind on that. d) Gradel has disappointed me and everyone else. I don't think the amount of defending he's doing helps but that's no excuse. I still have every faith in the lad. He's a confidence player and that seems to be lacking for whatever reason. Perhaps a goal would help cos I've never known him go so long without one. Another factor may be that he's used to being the star man whereas in City's team he's just a member of the side. One thing about young player people should understand is that it takes time for them to develop consistency.
