Koke Posted 25 November 2008 Posted 25 November 2008 Thracian is spot on with his post match analysis.
maddog Posted 25 November 2008 Posted 25 November 2008 Tilley wasn't far off. This was an unconvincing and mostly laboured performance and nothing like what we need apart from the result. Instead of keeping some tempo to our game when we scored we started getting casual and sloppy. You couldn't have imagined Crewe scoring this side of Christmas but they did thanks to some woeful decision making by DJ for whatever reason and by Morrison who had a night to forget, especially with his passing. As Tilley said Martin shouldn't have been beaten on the far post but his save from Zola just before half-time might well have been a points saver because he did extremely well and Zola must have been so frustrated. We'd already gone down to their level which wasn't very high and allowed them to slow or stiffle the game. The substitutions saved our day. Gradel didn't start well but he grabbed yet another assist from his corner to King who netted his second headed goal on the far post, his sixth of the season and his second match winner in succession to complete four days he'll doubtless remember for a long time. And once the goal went in it was Gradel who continued to try to lift our game, putting a whole string of passes into the box, some of them enough to make you wince and another three which so nearly created goals. Howard also made a difference and surely won his starting place back, the two substitutes together proving too much for Crewe to cope with, as most of us would have guessed. I've talked about our need to open a gap and the points from today helped to do that. But we weren't an oiled machine. After passing Crewe to raggedness in the first 10/15 minutes we lost our crispness and our patience. Crewe did a decent job on Dyer for the most part and DJ, while so nearly making a goal for Fryatt with a pass across the goalmouth, rarely looked especially dangerous. Fryatt's 16th goal was a fitting end to a good move but he still slowed our passing down at times and hung onto the ball too much. Kingy was competent enough but not really urgent enough although I did feel generally that our players seemed a little jaded after their mammoth effort up at S****horpe Saturday and that might have at least partly explained their lack of urgency. There were other downsides too. I'm sick of referees giving free kicks evry time a player falls over and I'm even more sick of the game being stopped almost every time a bloke takes a knock. For fractured skulls and broken bones I understand it but for bruised egos and as a tactical ploy to slow the game or win some time it gets on my nerves. And I didn't like to see City playing silly buggers by the corner flag yet again. They had the chance to get the ball in the box and maintain their impetus. They should have done it. We've lost enough points doing the other thing. Performance no more than 5/10. Effect, three vital points that Leeds and S****horpe would have loved. I agree. I was disgusted with the casualness of our performance. Yet again we seemed to be thinking 'we are playing shitty Crewe the wins in the bag'. Like Yeovil. This was shown when Fryatt scored a great opener and the players never celebratedbecause they were all coky and thought, yes weve scored but we should have we are playing shitty crewe. Another poor home performance, they could have easily had 2 penalties and missed a one on one, so delighted with 3 more points.
JoeyB Posted 25 November 2008 Posted 25 November 2008 I blame DJ and Martin for their goal! They best dropped. And thank god Kingy got last goal
JoeyB Posted 25 November 2008 Posted 25 November 2008 My match report here for anybody who may be interested... Did you really put tunchev as star player? And what about the comical slip towards the end of the game, your forgot to add that.... Good match report tho'
Daggers Posted 25 November 2008 Posted 25 November 2008 What was Crewe's support like? I applaud every one of them for coming. I counted 50-odd before kick-off but whatever the score it doesn't matter - they came with voice and good humour. I feel embarrassed by people in L1 trying to bate them, it's simply un****ingcalled for. Slag of Leeds, chant about Franchise...but Crewe for ****s sake?! Give me a break. I'm glad they got a goal to talk about and I hope they had a warmer journey on the motorway than I did. Good on them for coming out to support their team midweek even if no one else from their club did. Good on them for outsinging us for bits of the match. And good on Dario Gradi, who almost got points from the game and when faced with losing went 2-5-3. I have so much respect for him and what he has contributed to the game - even when dumped at the wrong end of the table with a squad of poor players he is still trying to get them to play football...compare that to our fucking hoofball we resorted to so often in the second half (Morrison, you are a dick). Played Crewe, I hope you avoid the drop.

Nail-head.
Nick Posted 25 November 2008 Posted 25 November 2008 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/e...ble/default.stm nice.
JoeyB Posted 25 November 2008 Posted 25 November 2008 Next league match day fixtures: Leicester v Southend Millwall v Bristol Rovers MK Dons v S****horpe Oldham v Brighton Stockport v Peterborough Tranmere v Leeds United I could see us stretching our lead to 4 points?
davieG Posted 25 November 2008 Posted 25 November 2008 This laughing at Crewe's supporters is uncalled for, are we so special that we don't appreciate what they stand for. I'd like to see how many we'd get on a Tuesday night if we were in their position playing a team at the top and with their pedigree. Edited to say I didn't see Dagger's post.
JoeyB Posted 25 November 2008 Posted 25 November 2008 TBH i was impressed with some of the football that Crewe played tonight! That has won them alot of respect from me.

Fair play to the supporters that actually made the effort. I just find it funny how there was on 100 of them in the large away section
mikelcfc Posted 25 November 2008 Posted 25 November 2008 81 tickets were sold before the game and total awa fans were 201. it just semed less than yeovil cause we paked them all in the lower part of the stand,. i did have to laugh when they sat "there here, their there, the every where, empty seats.... and then they we told to loook behind them...

Exactly - just look at the amount we took to some games last season (330 at Burnley, 672 at Wolves on a saturday and 406 to a crucial 6 pointer against Southampton) and we have a much bigger fan base than Crewe. Credit to all who made the treck - it's not like Leicester away is a big game for them either seeing as they've played us at the walkers a few times already.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 25 November 2008 Posted 25 November 2008 Fair play to the supporters that actually made the effort.I just find it funny how there was on 100 of them in the large away section You'd have loved the 30-odd Toulouse fans given a whole 5,000 seater section of the Parc des Princes then! I thought their fans were great and I was impressed with their team given their league position, especially Didier Drogba up front. Hope they stay up.
Daggers Posted 25 November 2008 Posted 25 November 2008 This laughing at Crewe's supporters is uncalled for Never won f-all? I don't think so.
Maybes Posted 25 November 2008 Posted 25 November 2008 Never won f-all?I don't think so. I dont think they realise any other club, other than Chelsea, Man Utd, Arsenal and Liverpool have actually won anything I mean....the milk cup. Massive.

Maybes Posted 25 November 2008 Posted 25 November 2008 The Cheshire Senior Cup is not to be sniffed at. On a side note, why on earth did you travel to Leicester on your motorbike?
Lovejoy Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 Although it's still earlyish, I believe that the current top 2 will be the top 2 come the end of the season.
Maybes Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 Although it's still earlyish, I believe that the current top 2 will be the top 2 come the end of the season. MK? Really. I hope not.
JakeShingler Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 I thought you'd missed Leeds out for a minute!
Benjani Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 The first home game i've been to since 4-0 v Norwich (Im an away fan <_<) and i really did not know the atomosphere is that bad at home. And was funny watching the 100 Crewe fans taking the piss out of the chelsea dagger thing, do all away teams do that? I just can't celebrate properly at home games when that music is going off, away games are so much better. Cheaper, better experience, and a much better atmosphere.
