Crewe Post-Match Andy King love in 2-1

Although it's still earlyish, I believe that the current top 2 will be the top 2 come the end of the season.

That's an interesting thought, and something that's been crossing my own mind lately.

Many people feel that Leeds and S****horpe are the teams to be feared but both face one special problem - local derbies.

Both Leeds and S****horpe are pretty close to Huddersfield, Oldham and Stockport. In fact all those games might be regarded as battles of the M62.

And the thing about local derbies is they're so hard to predict. Top can play bottom but the form book so often gets confounded.

And having eight such derbies each represents a lot of chances to drop points.

MK Dons and Millwall, with far fewer derbies, might yet prove the greater threats.

Mmh, I'm not sure.

I think reputations matter just as much as weakly felt derbies in this league. The advantage Scunny have over us is that most clubs think "who?" when they turn up.

I don't mean to be especially arrogant, but it's quite clear that a majority of League One sides regard ourselves and Leeds to be a real scalp - and I think that's far more likely to motivate teams to make it hard for us than any potential motorway based rivalry.

King seems to have the mental attributes required to make a bit of an impact and you can't deny he's got fair technique, but we'll have to see how he copes with the significant physical disadvantage he's going to always have in football.

He's big and he's lanky. He isn't strong, he isn't powerful and he certainly isn't fast.

If he can overcome that and continue to develop as a goalscoring, creative influence then long may he reign. But Muz was Muz because he'd sprint tirelessly from box to box like a little livewire, King's never going to have the body to do that.

Muzzy didn't actually get into anyone's first team at Kingy's age.

However, thus far, Kingy's average goals per game record is considerably better than Muzzy's and slightly better than Gibbo's.

And for one so weak he has a handy knack of scoring headers on the far post - which is welcome in our side seeing as it's such a rare skill. Of course, as I mentioned so often last season, it does help if a player gets into the box in the first place.

Unfortunately Holloway picked people who didn't. Strong or not.

PS: Davie Gibson, probably our best ever midfielder was just about the most lightweight footballer you can imagine in an era when the tackles were frequently X-certificate. Nowadays tackling's all but outlawed anyway.

But as you say, we'll see.

Nice to win. Obvs I've not seen the game but I think 2-1, especially what sounds like a tense 2-1, at home to Crewe is quite a poor result.

lol

On a side note, why on earth did you travel to Leicester on your motorbike?

It's a long walk otherwise, especially when you have a tummy like Winnie the Poo's.

S****horpe is not on the M62, (in fact you have to travel on three motorways to get to the M62 from there).

There is no way in the world that they would consider any of those three clubs as a local derby.

anyone else notice that beckford was stretchered off in the leeds game last night, which probably isn't going to help them....

I said beforehand this would be an easy game if we were professional about it, and tbh I still stand by that, it's just a shame the players weren't professional at times. We could have taken them to the cleaners if we played with any kind of intensity, but as this is LCFC we decided to get a decent foothold and throw it away. It's no good trying to stroke the ball around like that if there is no tempo, especially when the opposition has a bank of 5 and a bank of 4 in front of you. It was clear, especially in the first half, that when we zipped the ball around at pace and Oakley came inside there were huge gaps to expose. The goal against us was laughable, and by half-time we should have been losing but thankfully Zola lost his nerve and Martin stood up well.

You can be so pedantic. I didn't say the places were all on the M62. But at 25 miles away then the bigger part of the probable 40 minute journey on the M62 I'd call Leeds a derby for S****horpe and an M62 derby quite happily.

The M62 is the primary route from Leeds to Huddersfield or Oldham and I'd doubt the journey from S****horpe to the other places was more than 45 minutes and an hour respectively.

No more than Leicester-MK Dons really and I'd say the Dons would consider Leicester to be fairly local to them. But have it your own way. I'll just watch the results involving those clubs and I'd expect "big club" Leeds to drop points.

Already they've lost to Huddersfield and Oldham at home and another derby to Rotherham away.

Pedantic alert - isn't the M42 near Birmingham :giggle:

Pedantic Potential Paedo alert:

You can't spell Equaliser or Lacklustre... or Persistence. Apart from that, good article.

No you're right again Thrach, Scunny to Greater Manchester is undoubtedly a local derby. Fook me should they get to the premiership there'll be another Manchester Derby to rave about. I really don't know why I question you.

It was bloody cold.

My gonads were like ikkle peanuts!

The game was alright.

Good to see we are still winning and we are still in 3rd gear.

Imagine what will happen when we goto overdrive!!!

Morrison is crap.

Campbell hasn't got it going, but it is only two games, let him have a few more before making a judgement.

Got too complacent at 1-0, playing one pass too many. For their goal, 1. Campbell should have put it out for a throw, 2. Morrison should have put it out for a throw & 3. Martin shouldn't have been beaten at his near post, but did make up for it with a good save from Zola in his one on one.

Need a striker desperately to partner Fryatt, Howard & Campbell :/ I dunno, they just aren't setting the world alight, Hayles should be released & we are yet to see Dickov.

Need to spend in January, big time.

Gradel, great corner, but for god sake, YOU DO NOT HAVE A LEFT FOOT, STOP TRYING TO USE IT!!

King is turning into a hero of some sort.

We're playing not so well & winning, which is great, but we do need to start performing, scraping through against the bottom team isn't really good enough.

Yeah spot on really good post :chant:

Just some other thoughts on the game....

Fryatts goal was sweet an excellent finish i dont know why nobodys mentioned the 2 times we nearly scored 2 very simalar goals as Fryatts but there keeper pulled off some great saves to keep them in the game.

DJ for me was 50/50 nice to see him chasing and having movement up front isnt somthing ive seen this season Althou WTF was going on with there goal DJ should of had help to get rid or as said above just get it out for a throw. Not his best game but hopfully can build on it.

As for Crewe fans yes it was nice of them to turn out but for me just shows another fine example of how football has gone "Soft" If a team brings 80 fans or 8000 fans you expect banter & the piss taken out of you regardless which team you are, and there wasnt an awfull lot of banter between the 2 sets of fans anyway.

The game wasnt great overall (5/10) and can somone please tell me why all the pies had sold out BEFORE half time!?!?! I was politly advise by the spotty 17yr to que up somwhere else where i might have better luck at this point it was either throw my hot choc over him or drink it, as it was baltic i choose the latter.

See and nothing slaggin off howard oh how nice it was to watch only 20mins of him working within a 5yard radious no movement and 2 headers that man earnt his wages last night!...... :crylaugh:
