They seem to think we're going to win the league judging from their poll.

Published Date:

19 December 2008 By Alan Swann Posh were outclassed at The Walkers Stadium as they crashed to a heavy defeat. An own goal from Craig Morgan on six minutes and a Matty Fryatt strike eight minutes before the break gave Leicester a lead they deserved.

A header from Andy King from a free-kick on 70 minutes and a 25 yard thump from Steve Howard in the final minute confirmed their status as the best team in the division.

It was also Fryatt's cross which Morgan sliced into his own net.

Posh failed to control possession well enough, but almost levelled on the half hour when George Boyd struck a post before Craig Mackail-Smith rattled the crossbar from the rebound.

Posh boss Darren Ferguson caused a surprise by playing Russell Martin at left-back and Charlie Lee at right-back.

Lee missed Posh's best opportunity after the break when his free header from a Dean Keates corner went wide. By then Lee was playing at centre-back after Chris Westwood was withdrawn at half-time.

Leicester had several other goal-scoring opportunities, but a mixture of brave defending and fine 'keeping kept them out.

Posh: Lewis, Martin, Morgan, Westwood, Lee, Crofts, Keates, Whelpdale, Boyd, Mclean, Mackail-Smith.

Subs: McKeown, Blanchett, Coutts, Green, Batt.

Leicester: Martin, Gilbert, Tunchev, Hobbs, Berner, Oakley, Davies, King, Dyer, Fryatt, Howard.

Subs: Powell, Cisak, Gradel, Morrison, Dickov.

I can honestly say in my 28 years of watching Posh that I have never seen us so comprehensively outplayed in a league game as we were yesterday (maybe Sheff Utd at London Road in April 1982 runs it close).

How on earth Leicester are not further clear at the top of the table I don't know. On yesterday's evidence they appear 15-20pts better than anything else in this division.

I think we have seen the League 1 champs this season. Leicester played some good stuff, its just a shame we couldnt have more of a game of it.. Well done for the win anyway imo, we were awful.

What would you like for Christmas my young Peterborough friend?

A new striker maybe?

Ho ho ho
