lildave3 Posted 20 December 2008 Posted 20 December 2008 And they were given just the sort of performance that will get them coming back - apqart from the POSH portioin that is.I thought Southend was promising. Very professional. But today we added a bit of panache. Some of one-two's cut Peterborough to pieces and their goalkeeper must have been close to Man of the Match for them. For me the highlight was Steve Howard's goal. You could tangibly feel the relief that went with all-out celebration. Howard has been immense lately and today was no different. Instead of just Fryatt, the whole team seems to be playing off him. He's never let his goal drought get him down but has pluged away playing his part in the team effort. His strike a couple of minutes from time was a fitting change of luck for him goals wise. It was a cracking effort just about as close to the corner of the net as possible without hitting the post and it was a nice touch for him to acknowledge the crowd and the bench in his relief. Kingy's seventh goal of the season took him level with Lloyd Dyer so he won't mind that, Tunchev's return at the back steadied the defence and Davies showed in midfield that he two is capable of getting forward for a pop, adding to our goals potential. Gilbert continued to show why he was missed so much, Oakley was involved in all sorts so that, altogether, that was a good a team effort as I've seen from Leicester in the league for ages. Hasn't King got 8 now?
Daggers Posted 20 December 2008 Posted 20 December 2008 23,390 turned up to see that. No - 23,389. They may have counted my season ticket but I was definitely stuck at Fosse Sainsbury's waiting for a man to come and recover my sack of shit motorbike and its wank Italian clutch. Still, at least I didn't miss anything entertaining or exhilarating.
Flynny Posted 20 December 2008 Posted 20 December 2008 Fantastic game. First game I've seen in the league since Orient, wouldn't have been overly surprised at a loss, and yet we were brilliant. Not one bad performer today. Everyone seems knows what they're doing and what they're about. Everyone looks to ultimately be about scoring, even the centre-backs in their own way. Oakley put in some fantastic passes from the right, and is as good in his own way (or was today) as a winger but something totally different. Lloyd wasn't the best I've seen him but was dangerous, Davies and King easily the best central-midfield combination I've seen in years at Leicester, both looking to get forward but with seemingly a better understanding than Oakley/King which allows both to contribute a little better. Berner great at left-back too, both solid and good in support. Tunch and Hobbs were immense. Front two on fire... fuck I don't think anyone was at less than a 7.5
Darkzzz_ Posted 20 December 2008 Posted 20 December 2008 Excellent performance today, Personally I think it is the best I have seen this season. Peterborough are a decent team and I think most of their fans fancied coming here and taking something today, But we didn't let them have a sniff and played some excellent stuff. A very professional job and some excellent wide play which was a joy to see. I thought Davies was quality, He keeps it simple, I like him. Well done boys and well done to Howard who again was fantastic.
Matt Posted 20 December 2008 Posted 20 December 2008 Great match, Great win, Great Performance. Best match of the game, and congratulations to Howard! ...Bet someone will still slag him off. Gilbert has been great anyway but he looked brilliant today, they all did. Play like that on Boxing Day combined with Leeds' current form and we can double todays result
The Stig Posted 20 December 2008 Posted 20 December 2008 Some of the best football we've played for years. Some of the little flicks and back heels we played today were just outrageous, and most of the times they came off.Unfortunately for us this just shows other teams that you can't come here and try to play football, expect 10 men behind the ball at home for the rest of the season now. Great post totally agree. If the ball had bounced our way a few more times we could have had 5 or 6. I thought both sides had a player booked? I thought so two.
Fox You Forest Posted 20 December 2008 Posted 20 December 2008 Didn't he book there player for that free kick Oakley nearly scored from, Was a perfectly good tackle too. Magic stuff, Enjoyed it immensely.
colbo68 Posted 20 December 2008 Posted 20 December 2008 Best performance in years that. Tunchev was ridiculously solid as a rock. Dickov is a twat though. I agree with that...... Tunchev is playing at a level well beneath him and Dickov I think is frustrated at his lack of starts Ive not been on Foxes talk for some time and am surprised when we are playing so well and riding high that there appears to be a Fryatt v Howard sort of thread. Its obvious that the two compliment each other well and both have a place in the side currently
Joe. Posted 20 December 2008 Posted 20 December 2008 Didn't he book there player for that free kick Oakley nearly scored from, Was a perfectly good tackle too. Magic stuff, Enjoyed it immensely. Looked like a blatant foul on Dyer from where I was sitting. And did anybody else think that Oakley's tackle on Mackail-Smith was an obvious foul right before Fryatt's goal? Not that I'm complaining or anything....
Tilley Posted 20 December 2008 Posted 20 December 2008 Looked like a blatant foul on Dyer from where I was sitting. And did anybody else think that Oakley's tackle on Mackail-Smith was an obvious foul right before Fryatt's goal? Not that I'm complaining or anything.... Yes!
Koke Posted 20 December 2008 Posted 20 December 2008 Wasn't our 1st goal a foul on their player. And then Fryatt chased the ball down the corner and robbed it. I'm not complaining though. Great performance, one of the best in ages.
Fosse Boy Posted 20 December 2008 Posted 20 December 2008 Absolutely brilliant. The team just looked to be working so well, great to see Super Steve get on the scoresheet too. Stood in L1 with my mate's season ticket, waving my scarf around during a ten minute rendition of Ring of Fire, didn't give a fcuk that Dagwank came on when we scored because I was just having too much fun. That's what being a football fan's all about. Good times. :scarf:
syston_fox Posted 20 December 2008 Posted 20 December 2008 What a shame we didn't give Posh a bigger allocation so they all could have enjoyed that! Great performance from all the outfield players in blue. You knew it would be our day as soon as we got that early christmas present in the form of an own goal and the two open goal misses in the space of seconds when the post and crossbar were struck... Good day all round really!
dandannieldanok Posted 20 December 2008 Posted 20 December 2008 Excellent performance, they showed flashes of good but overall we were completely dominant. The system functioned smoothly and we thoroughly deserved the win and the scale of victory. We couldn't have had much better preparation for Leeds and Hereford.
Koke Posted 20 December 2008 Posted 20 December 2008 And did anybody else think that Oakley's tackle on Mackail-Smith was an obvious foul right before Fryatt's goal? Not that I'm complaining or anything.... Yeah it looked like a foul on Mackail-Smith. I couldn't give a toss though. We would have won convincingly anyway

Father Ted Posted 20 December 2008 Posted 20 December 2008 Best result of the season so far. Bring on Leeds scum.
Thracian Posted 20 December 2008 Posted 20 December 2008 "And did anybody else think that Oakley's tackle on Mackail-Smith was an obvious foul right before Fryatt's goal? Not that I'm complaining or anything.... " No. The referee was very close. And with this "Respect" campaign ongoing I really think we should show them some support and back their decisions. The fact that Peterborough decided to do their own refereeing and stop playing was their own choice. In fact in the cause of "Respect" I'm going to give the ref a 10!
lildave3 Posted 20 December 2008 Posted 20 December 2008 I wonder how different it would have been had they scored from that one where they hit the post then the bar...
syston_fox Posted 20 December 2008 Posted 20 December 2008 I think i saw you before the game near the hospital. And what a win was amazing. Yeah I had a feeling it was you - standing outside of the F Bar, across the road from the off license?
Mikey Posted 20 December 2008 Posted 20 December 2008 Awesome. Best performance of the season so far.
DB11 Posted 20 December 2008 Posted 20 December 2008 To be fair this comment wasn't intended for you, but read the match rating later on and my point will be proven HOWARD - 9 Was by far the best player on the pitch and won everything. Took his goal better then anyone in the world could off Fryatt 6 - Scored but didn't really get involed and wasn't reading the great knock downs by Howard That's totally true though, with the exception of the bold bit
Thracian Posted 20 December 2008 Posted 20 December 2008 I wonder how different it would have been had they scored from that one where they hit the post then the bar... Look forward LilDave, not back. In the case of city it might be much more fun...
