Thracian Posted 27 April 2009 Posted 27 April 2009 There are no allegedly prejudice against our youngsters, otherwise if that was the case we would not see King, Mattock and Gradel cement their spot in the first 11. If you're good enough, you'll make it. King is good enough and has ranked up more appearances than anyone. He's got nearly 70 appearances for the club. There was hardly any encouragement for King to be included in the first team even when, last season, midfielders actually scoring or creating goals were a rarity. There was no more than modest preference for Gradel to start last season ahead of Newton and even this season fans quickly lost faith in the guy until his post-Christmas return. Few of our fans regularly watch the youngsters on their way through so I don't think it's a case of thinking they're not good enough but rather preferring to focus on the latest new signing who they seem to think must be an improvement because of the very fact we've signed them. Time and again in recent seasons we've proved that's not the case. There have been some awful signings for Leicester and far too many recruits who never deserved to wear the shirt. But when they did it was invariably at the expense of a far more capable youngster.
C-man Posted 27 April 2009 Posted 27 April 2009 Him and Lathaniel Rowe-Turner have both done well there from reading there match reports. Was meant to be going to a game, but never materialised. Ricky Sappleton's been an animal at Telford.
The Doctor Posted 28 April 2009 Posted 28 April 2009 Just who is Beswick anyway? i've never heard of him or anyone talk about him.

Quote taken from Redditch manager in recent post match interview! http://www.redditchunitedfc.co.uk/index.ph...8&Itemid=39 He's always been one to score or make winning goals. Even when he played full-back he was much more effective in an attacking sense than Laczko ever was. But, for whatever reason, and at least four possibilities come to mind, he was never one of the "in-crowd" among the new regime, any more than Psssh. Both are talented players who have been wasted and the only option for them now is to somehow make something out of nothing elsewhere and I sincerely hope they do.

Doesn't that article say that they wont be signing for Redditch
Jimmy Posted 1 May 2009 Posted 1 May 2009 Why are people so quick to put down our youngsters on here?Imagine if some of them read some of the stuff on here, there confidence would take a right beating. Its a joke. because the majority of the time Thrac annoys everyone with constantly over hyping them so they bare the brunt of peoples frustration
MPH Posted 1 May 2009 Posted 1 May 2009 Forgotten man really. On his way to obscurity no doubt, though you never know.Ironic that someone like Laczko should wear the first team shirt several times and a kid who constantly showed himself to be better, both as a maker and scorer of goals, never got a look in. You do wonder why sometimes. Sadly though Beswick was another of our young crop who seemed to be forever injured. I don't know about all the scientific input, the monitoring and the dietary advice they get but I sometimes wonder if regular stints at a military training camp or a boxing club would make em more durable. Or perhaps the injuries are simply a consequence of the increased pace of modern football, who knows? Whatever, to see players on crutches for lengthy periods is a familiar sight at City. Kisnorbo, Tunchev (soon), Chambers, Kee, Vassey, Beswick, Chambers (again), Wesolowski, Psssh come to mind with others who have also been out for long or longish periods include Fryatt, Clemence, Dickov, Mattock, N'Gotty, Chambers, Henderson and Campbell.
Thracian Posted 1 May 2009 Posted 1 May 2009 Doesn't that article say that they wont be signing for Redditch Where have I suggested they would sign for Redditch?
Thracian Posted 1 May 2009 Posted 1 May 2009 because the majority of the time Thrac annoys everyone with constantly over hyping them so they bare the brunt of peoples frustration Which youngster has been over-hyped? Stearman - became player of the season and has this season played his part in Wolves return to the Premiership. Wesolowski - played well enough for us, now doing himself justice in the Scottish Premier. Not my fault he had serious injuries. King - overlooked last season when we were relegated. A regular this season when we won promotion. Contender for player of the season. Gradel - mixed season but a good proportion of assists to games and played his part in our promotion. Far better proposition on the wing than the likes of Newton, Laczko, etc which was the basis for my campaigning for him. Dodds - I only claimed he deserved a chance ahead of the likes of Horsfield and Cadamarteri. I stand by that. Psssh - forgotten man but a perfectly decent record for us in The Championship, much missed when injured last season, and ignored now for reasons other than football. Mattock - I've never been convinced and nothing has changed that view. Sheehan - I said he offered more attacking threat as a wing-back than Mattock and that his set-pieces were matchless at City. I stand by that. Logan - has never let City down when called on and I cannot see that he'd have been worse than Warner or Stockdale. Beswick - I lamented that he was prone to injury many times but argued that, when fit, he was a far more accurate and dangerous player than Laczko in the absence of Psssh and perhaps even a potentially more dangerous wing-back than Mattock. Nothing has since changed my view. Chambers - I doubted he would break through this season and that has been the case. Sappleton - hasn't threatened to win a first team place which was as I expected. Kee - I argued that he was our best striker prospect at under 18 level and his run of goals and the dramatic improvement in Academy results since his return from injury in the second half of the season confirmed that view. Odhiambo - I've never thought he would quite make it here and that seems to be the case. So exactly who has been over-hyped? Sheehan is the main contender because he's not really done himself justice for various reasons. But he did well enough for a time when Leeds pushed through to the play-off finals, he started well enough at Crewe and I've still seen nothing to convince me that Mattock is better overall, though some will doubtless disagree. PS: The most over-hyped player at this club in recent seasons has been Kaebi. Everyone and his dog wanted him in the first team. But anyone who watched him play for the reserves quickly saw that there was never any justification for the idea. And when he did play, especially at Hull, he was embarrassingly poor and quickly replaced.
Koke Posted 1 May 2009 Posted 1 May 2009 I think the fact that Dodds is playing for Port Vale and Sheehan for Crewe should tell you a lot. I'm not convinced by Mattock either, but he's better than Sheehan, that's for sure. Kids like Weso, Stearman, Gradel, King etc are actually well liked on here so I still don't know where the myth that people don't want Academy lads to succeed come from. And for the record, apart from Sheehan and to an extend Dodds, I don't think you have hyped any other player up - You've just said it they way it is.
act smiley Posted 1 May 2009 Posted 1 May 2009 Those are all perfectly clear, perfectly reasonable and fair opinions, I would say; its merely that some of the previous posts on these subjects got a bit preachy and only bothered with the positives you've put there and not the negatives (particularly with Sheehan, Dodds and the P-word), however I would say you've certainly been vindicated with King. Logan isn't a patch on Stockdale, though.
Koke Posted 1 May 2009 Posted 1 May 2009 The thing with P-Word is that he's an OK player and had 1 good game (Chelsea). I honestly cannot recall any other great games he's had so please do inform me.
leftsideoverhere Posted 2 May 2009 Posted 2 May 2009 Ricky Sappleton's been an animal at Telford. Yeah, a real animal...
