Wayne Brown

Recommended Posts

Leicester City have today beaten a number of Championship clubs to the signing of defender Wayne Brown from Premier League side Hull City.

Brown, 31, has joined the Foxes on loan initially until the end of the season with the view to a permanent move.

The Barking-born centre half played a major part in the Tigers' rise to the top flight - making 44 appearances in total during the campaign.

Brown spent a one-month spell at Preston earlier this season - starting six games for Alan Irvine's side.

City boss Nigel Pearson said: "Wayne played a major part in Hull's promotion to the Premier League last season and his experience will be invaluable to us.

"He is a player that I have admired for a long time and I am delighted to have him on board."

Brown began his career at Ipswich Town and also represented Colchester United, QPR, Wimbledon and Watford before making a permanent move to Vicarage Road in 2002.

The player then re-joined Colchester in 2004 following a further loan spell at Layer Road. He made a total of 158 appearances in just three years before making a £450,000 move to Hull in 2007.

Brown, who has been offered the number 36 shirt, is expected to go straight into the City squad for the League One clash against Northampton Town at Sixfields on Saturday.

Name: Wayne Brown

Nationality: English

Date of Birth: 20/08/1977

Height: 6' 0" (183cm)

Weight: 12st 6lbs (78.99kg)

Previous

Clubs: Preston, Watford, Colchester, Ipswich Town, Gillingham, Wimbledon, QPR

Position: Defender

The Tigers paid a club record fee for a defender in July 2007 when Barking-born Wayne agreed to move north in a £450,000 deal.

A centre-back and natural leader, he teamed-up again with former Colchester United colleague Richard Garcia at the KC Stadium.

Both have been star performers in the recent Us' success story with Wayne being the bedrock at the heart of their defence.

He has particular reason to be proud of United's remarkable first-ever Championship campaign last season as he played in every minute of the Essex club's 46 games.

He joined Colchester in the summer of 2004, following a successful loan spell at the end of the 2003-04 season.

Wayne began his career at Ipswich Town where he spent eight years at Portman Road including four Premiership appearances during the 2000-01 season.

Having generally found first team opportunities with the Tractor Boys hard to come by, he also enjoyed loan spells at Queens Park Rangers, Wimbledon, Watford and Gillingham.

Wayne, who reached his 30th birthday during the opening month of the 2007-08 season, joined the Tigers on a three-year contract.

He became the 900th player to make their City debut in league and cup matches while a personal highlight was his goal in the 3-1 win against his former club Ipswich Town in September.

Otherwise, Wayne's partnership with Michael Turner proved be the bedrock of the successful team which, in reaching the Premier League via the Play-Offs, equalled the Tigers' club record of finishing third at the Championship level.

Notably, his presence was sorely missed when suffering calf and hamstring injuries in March and Apr

We can only play 5 loan players at once I think? ......Does Pearshape know this?

Oh FFS. Do you think he can't count? Even Holloway managed to do that.

A very smart move. Brown is a quality defender in this league and the Championship too.

Now that Davies has gone, we've only got 5: Martin, Gilbert, Hobbs, Cleverley & Brown.

That is a lot, mind!

Hopefully at least a couple of those will sign on permanently in the summer - probably Gilbert and Brown the most likely, I'd imagine (assuming Brown is still good). Little or no chance of Hobbs or Cleverley, I'd imagine. DK re. Martin, what reserve keepers do the Scousers already have?

Could end up being permanant too as they have done a deal today too

...........

................Agreed a deal with Hull City for highly-rated defender Steven Mouyokolo.

The highly-rated stopper was being tracked by a host of clubs but Hull have now moved to secure Mouyokolo.

The Tigers have agreed to pay €2million (£1.8million) for the 22-year-old.

However, Mouyokolo will stay on loan at second division Boulogne until 1st July - when he will then seal his move across the channel.

"There is a time when we can no longer block the progress of a player," said president Jacques Wattez.

"If Hull had not accepted our request, it wouldn't have happened. But we need to consider the future of our club.

"Of course we lose a good player, but his departure will enhance us.

"We could have waited until the end of the season, but sport is not immune from injury, in this case there would then have been no transfer."

The Tigers have yet to comment on the deal.

Morrison must be gutted.

Starts the season, loses place to Tunchev, Tunchev gets injured, back in the side, now likely to lose his place again.

He's young. His time will come.

We need an experienced defender to see us through the run-in and Brown fits the bill perfectly.

................pointless stuff

To be honest the bit in the article about him signing that said "Brown, 31, has joined the Foxes on loan initially until the end of the season with the view to a permanent move" indicated that.

But hull have signed a player today so his time might be coming to an end at the tigers!

Do you not think Hull would of known they were going to sign this player before, or do you think they brought him over today.

They've obviously brought in one, and let another go. With it being permanent this might mean due to us going up to the championship or we don't have the funds now.

I cant say i agree with that. Its not that he doesnt handle the press its quite the opposite, wouldnt you get fed up of people poking a prodding and asking the same questions week in and week out but slightly re-arranging them?

Thats why hes dry, unlike holloway he doesnt compare everything to a monkeys pet elephant or whatever. Pearson just tries to shoot them down with their crap questions by just giving 1 word answers, its quite funny especially the reaction of the ian stringer because he knows pearson is a difficult character and doesnt give much away, which is good as hes focusing on the job and not his next cliche.
