Uncle Albert Posted 19 February 2009 Posted 19 February 2009 Surely its the media's jobs to hype up England matches and pre World Cup? I love reading the Papers when they say we have a brilliant chance of winning the World Cup, yes thats me being naivie but I couldnt careless. I always go into World Cup and the European Championships thinking we are going to win it, I also go into every qualifier knowing we are going to win. Just the way I am. I think deep down I am more Country over Club at times.

Uncle Albert Posted 19 February 2009 Posted 19 February 2009 What brainwashed or brainless?(kidding) Bit of both I reckon.
Finnegan Posted 19 February 2009 Posted 19 February 2009 I'm with Kareem. I can empathise with those who are disenchanted with England. It isn't that they're shit (they're clearly better than us) it's that they don't try. You're massively overrated by your own media but you DO have one of the best teams in Europe, still, and should have been far better under both the Swede and that useless **** Mac. It's frustrating watching these overpaid, oversexed muppets prance about with the attitude that England doesn't matter - watching them grind out 1 - 0s against the shithole nations of the world that even Wales can slap four past. But I still don't understand the attitude. City have been shit for years now, we still turn up and cheer them on - we still berrate the stay-away rent-a-fans who only come when we're in the top flight. It's exactly the same attitude for England, whatever your problem with the individuals on show - together they're your team. You can give as many reasons as you want, the distinction between the two really isn't all that great. Most of us didn't pick Leicester - it was part of our upbringing or a result of geographical coincidence - you're stuck with them and England is the same. You think I enjoy posting in these threads pretending I'm not jealous of your success or player base? You think I enjoy raving about the likes of Earnshaw and Koumas knowing Hargreaves and Owen and others saw sense?
dandannieldanok Posted 19 February 2009 Posted 19 February 2009 watching them grind out 1 - 0s against the shithole nations of the world that even Wales can slap four past. Well, beating San Marino 2-1 the last qualifiers and 1-0 Azerbaijan in these qualifiers is hardly emphatic.
Edmund Posted 19 February 2009 Posted 19 February 2009 I have a gripe with a lot of people in this country. Every time the national team plays why do people have to come up with rubbish like they don't support England because they are shit and they a bunch of prima donnas who bring disgrace to the shirt and yadda yadda [as if our club isn't shit and isn't infested with hopeless players, but you still support your club regardless]. It used be the fans of the top Prem teams who came out with this rubbish but this disease have now spread down to the lower leagues as well. You're an Englishman, you should support England when they are playing. If they clash with club football, then choose your club by all means. Finners is quite proud of Wales despite them being rather mediocre. Most home nations are proud of their countries. Most Europeans are also like that. How can Englishmen not be bothered about their country playing? I was watching the England game with couple of lads and their friends [all English, all Sheffield Wednesday fans] and it was all about how they dont care about England because they are pants. It ****s me off big time. I have seen comments on this site as well how people dislike England and could not care about them. Moan/ Spot on I am one of these people. I will always follow england but not how I use to as now it is passionless. Why should I support a team with no passion, no unity? Back in Euro 96 when you had the likes of gazza, shearer, sheringham, ince etc they played for the badge, didn't trawll around with there wags and we had an english manager with passion. That has all been lost and is now one commercial mockery of a national team. Look at teams like Russia, Holland, Italy, Spain there players are proud to put on the shirt. Here it seems players are worried what the papers will make of them. Our team should be picked on merit not the big names. Picked on passion. The f.a is also a joke paying ridiculous sums of moneys to hire foreign managers and not giving the chance to home grown managers. Also the people who hire these managers are a joke as the majority havn't even got a football background and are just suit's. I pity the fans like yourself who keep on defending the national team when 80% of the nation have smelt the coffee and are fed up. Are we suppose to just move on accept what evers thrown at us. Bollocks. Rant over.

If someone is given the honour of representing their country in any sport then they should play like they mean it. I'd rather follow eleven no hopers who given one hundred percent every game than eleven prima donnas who couldn't give a shit about the jersey they should be so proud to wear.

Yea course you would, you would be one of many a thousand who would again be slating the England team because we are losing. Some people sound so stupid when they bang on about this passion bollocks, yea a few years ago the majority of the England players were more passionate but if you want to see passion look at the clips after we went out of the World Cup in '06 where all of the team were crying because we went out. Is that not passion? Look at Beckham's celebration in 2002 v Argentina, look at Campbell and Ferdinand's celebrations v Sweden in 2002. Look at the teams performace in Turkey in 2003 where we drawn to go to the European Championships. Look at how distraught Rooney was in Portugal in 2004 and Gerrard when he passed the ball back to James and Zidane crept in and won them the game, look at them pair after Rooney suffered an injury and Gerrard played that pass. That was passion, so dont bang on about the old days and how good they were because they were just the same as today. We won fuck all then with the so called passion and we have won fuck all now without the passion that apparently the players dont have nowadays.

I might be a cretin for any number of reasons but I would never put down a team who I thought displayed the passion and heart that should be expected of those who wear the Three Lions, win, lose or draw. It's pretty much every boy's dream to play for England and it's kind of disillusioning to see some of those that get the chance show such disregard for what should be their greatest footballing honour.

I never said that I didn't lose my love for supporting england down to results?! So that is irrelevant. Of course there is still passion but not the same TEAM passion as in the past. Im not saying all players go out there and don't give a fook they just don't have that same love and desire to win as older teams. It would be silly if a player didn't show emotion now wouldn't it? And all these silly little references you have pointed out are just natural reactions to certain situations. Im talking about TEAM spirit not individual little cameos because they fooked up.

I wasnt aiming that post at you for a start, so that is irrelevent. It doesnt matter how much desire the older teams had they still won nothing just like the team now. What silly little references? Like the picture you put up a picture of Gazza, yea righto. So me reffering to Beckham's and Campbells celebrations in 2002 is not the same as you putting a picture up of Gazza celebrating? Ah thats alright, thanks for clearing that up. There is passion in the England squad now and there always will be, either shut up and get on with supporting the country or go and support Brazil or Wales at the World Cup.
Samilktray Posted 19 February 2009 Posted 19 February 2009 Probably my favourite goal celebration from anyone, the Greece match was special.
Uncle Albert Posted 19 February 2009 Posted 19 February 2009 Probably my favourite goal celebration from anyone, the Greece match was special. Probably not enough passion though. God if that was Ray Wilkins in the 80's then it might be different.

How was that post not aimed at me. I was stating about the lack of passion, you then replied with a post about people slagging off passion? No brainer to me!! So it is relevant Whats your point about the old teams not winning? Me or a fox in essex never mentioned anything to do with older teams winning?! The point I was making is they tried there hardest each and evry single player. There is passion but not what it was. And who the fook are you to tell me to shut up. Im allowed an opinion and if you don't like it go fook yourself. Don't give me this bullshit about supporting brazil/wales. Im an England fan and just because I don't feel the same passion towards the team as I did in the past doesn't mean im not entilted to support england. I will always cheer England on and am passionate about football and my team. Does that exclude me from your cotton wool supporters club because I have an opinion of my team or is this some sort of censorship.

Floating Fox Posted 19 February 2009 Posted 19 February 2009 Probably my favourite goal celebration from anyone, the Greece match was special. Have to admit that was the only time I've gone mental at an England goal.
purpleronnie Posted 19 February 2009 Posted 19 February 2009 Have to admit that was the only time I've gone mental at an England goal. I remember holding my baby niece when that goal went it I screamed so loud but she didnt cry or anything. I'm just glad I remembered I was holding a baby when the goal went it.
Sparky Posted 19 February 2009 Posted 19 February 2009 Have to admit that was the only time I've gone mental at an England goal. The Argentina match 98 world cup i was in a bar in tenerife and just bought a tray of drinks which i slung up in the air when Sol Campbell headed his goal , only for it to be disallowed

Sparky Posted 19 February 2009 Posted 19 February 2009 What a match, Owens goal was the highlight but like you said that Campbell goal was heart stopping. Was in my heyday , 18 years old in Tenerife with my mates and the way we lost that absolutley shattered me . Following night i met Muzzy which lifted the spirits !!
Uncle Albert Posted 19 February 2009 Posted 19 February 2009 Losing to Argentina was the first time I cried thanks to Football, was second time my Dad took me to the pub to watch it aswell and I felt like a right cool kid. Sipping a swig of my Dad's beer. Half time me and aload of my Barrow Juniors mates were down the pub and we went outside and started playing Footy and making different scenario's up for England winning. That night was also the last time I ever wore that England shirt from '98 my most favourite one aswell. Goodtimes.
purpleronnie Posted 19 February 2009 Posted 19 February 2009 I remember David Platts goal against Belgium to (i think) put us in the 1/4 finals was another mad moment. I remember my sisters boyfriend at the time running out of the house and jumping around in the road.
