England fans

I have a gripe with a lot of people in this country.

Every time the national team plays why do people have to come up with rubbish like they don't support England because they are shit and they a bunch of prima donnas who bring disgrace to the shirt and yadda yadda [as if our club isn't shit and isn't infested with hopeless players, but you still support your club regardless]. It used be the fans of the top Prem teams who came out with this rubbish but this disease have now spread down to the lower leagues as well.

You're an Englishman, you should support England when they are playing. If they clash with club football, then choose your club by all means.

Finners is quite proud of Wales despite them being rather mediocre. Most home nations are proud of their countries. Most Europeans are also like that. How can Englishmen not be bothered about their country playing? :dunno:

I was watching the England game with couple of lads and their friends [all English, all Sheffield Wednesday fans] and it was all about how they dont care about England because they are pants. It ****s me off big time.

I have seen comments on this site as well how people dislike England and could not care about them.

Totally agree. Englishmen who support Brazil or Germany etc are no different from people who come from Surrey and support ManUre.

I am everything you have said in you above post, I have just lost the 'love and passion' for England football now/at the moment don't know how, don't know why just not keen, I watched the match last night and just laughed and slagged them off, As you have said Leicester ain't exactly world class but I still love and support them through thick and thin and if anyone slags them off it normally ends in an argument, but with England I just feel all the potential we have and we play shite, All the world class (Some of the worlds best players) we have in the England team, Individually they are great as a team they are awful, as you have said you should support whether shit or not - As I do with Leicester but I just struggle, Don't really know why.

TBH I think it is International football as a whole that I personally dislike, It fooks 'your clubs' game up (Even all the way down in the lowly league of League One) and i'm definitely of the view of club over country.

I'll admit when the World Cup comes around I will be the first on the bandwagon I predict.

It's the fact that they don't care about England that ticks me off. How can you not care when your national team is playing? :dunno: And then continuously slag them off.

I care. It feels as bad to me when England lose as it does when Leicester does. I refused to watch a single match in Euro 08 because England didn't qualify.

Tbh I think a lot do care but want to pretend that they don't in anticipation of the disappointment to come.

to be fair i dont think slagging them off is right on last nights game, spain were fantastic at everything. from their defence and wing backs pushing forward, xavi and alonso not putting a pass wrong, and villa and torres making some fantastic runs and touches. they deserved to win the game 2-0 and pissed on england.

im behind england all the way whoever they play but knowing when the opposition are better than you is key, much like some LCFC fans today - we aren't going to steamroller everybody. Brighton, Oldham, Swindow, Andorra or Spain it just doesn't matter.

Theres too much inner-bickering on the national team scene.

Go to a match and the cockneys are squabbling (Ashley Cole scenario) the United and Liverpool fans want nothing to do with it all and theres a couple of neutrals in between.

No wonder people have contempt for our national side.

You're exactly the sort of people that do my head in.

And how does International football **** our club game up? If you are a Man U or Arsenal fan, then yes it probably does. But lower league cubs like us have nothing to complain about. At best we have 2 or 3 International players in our teams, including U21 players.

Exactly. Good point, Week in, week out, we all hate such and such, ah their in a England shirt now "C'mon Ashley". Or Birmingham fans hating Villa and all their players, but then England team might soon be the Villa team. :giggle:

And still have our games re-scheduled, thus fooking us up. IMO if you want the best players you have to suffer the consequences - Play without them when they are on international duty.

I fear there are a number of reasons people might feel like this.

Media hype and over hype has raised expectations only for them to be dashed

Being paid large sums to play for England

Players picking and choosing which games they want to play

Players not interested in representing their country and do it purely to raise their income streams

Players pissed on the job with a were here to piss about and have fun attitude

Caps given to undeserving players

Foreign over paid managers

The lack of credible English manager alternatives coupled with a lack of development opportunities for them

Over priced ticketing

Restricted access to see them play e.g by high ticket pricing or pay per view

Empty executive seating at Wembley

A weak, corrupt, money seeking, profligate, Premier League sycophantic FA

Pointless friendlies with over the top substitutions

On their own these types of things mean little and there's more I'm sure add them together and it = pissed off disinterested fans

Can't disagree with any of that.

My feelings towards the national team change all the team, no matter what though, I'll always want them to win.

In past managements, it has been clear to see that the effort was simply not there, that is what ****s a lot of people of. These players that are paid astronomical money to play football and give 100% just were simply not doing that. I think a lot of fans now have started to do what most of the national team seem to have done, put club first.

Anyone that says they don't care though needs to remember how they felt when Croatia beat us last year.

Isn't that the same for a lot of club football players? :dunno:

Look around in the Premiership and Championship, and you'll see exactly what you described, but people still support their club regardless.

I'm frustrated like any other man about England's failures over the years, but I would never abandon them like a lot of people have.

I love Leicester City as much as England. I'm probably in the minority about this, but hey ho..

When a major tournament is on I'll back England like nothing else, sing in the pub, go mad at a goal and shed a tear when we fook up in the quarter finals on penalties.

But my main gripe is when the international game gets in the way of the domestic game and the constant media hype every game gets.

I barely watched 30 minutes of the whole past Euros just because England wern't there, sad possibly but that's how hard it hit me, there's nothing like the euphoria of a major international tournament when your countries playing.

Can't wait to start following them away from home and in the tournaments in a few years when the moneys there

Erm yeah, I moaned last season as did you about the lack of effort being put in? The same as people do with England? :dunno:

davieG stated a lot of reasons why people don't bother following the national team anymore, it's been taken away from the fans in so many different ways. It's a lot easier to stop following them than your local club, I'd say it wasn't really something you could compare.

I support England, but find it hard to get worked up for a friendly tbh. The main reason I really care about Leicester is because I go and watch them. Having never seen an England match (tv doesn't count), I can't support them in the same way that I do the Foxes. However that doesn't mean I disassociate myself from them.

People that do are irritating. It's not just football though, there's no pride in anything to do with this country, and the gov't have a large proportion of the blame at their door as any patriotism is quashed  .

Can you imagine the US gov't telling Americans they weren't allowed to fly their flag in public? The place would go bananas. And quite rightly :@ .

Why?

Why not?

Why do you support Leicester? Because you are either a) from Leicester or b) your parents supported them so you got into it.

If you're an Englishman, you should support your national team when they are playing. I don't know your stance on this Daggers but I'm a firm believer of one supporting his country regardless. You can put club before country by all means, but abandoning it completely its really sad if you ask me.

That's a fair and balanced argument. I can't disagree with any of that.

I just feel you gotta support your national team one way or another. It kind of saddens me when I hear people say they don't care if England win or lose.

I'll sort of support them at major tournaments but Leicester are my team, not England. I can't identify with the players and I can't identify with the fans. I'd rather see a team who try and play decent football do well when I haven't got a huge vested interest in it i.e. Arsenal in the Premiership, Barcelona in Spain and Spain in the international game. Certainly don't need anyone to tell me how I feel about England anyway.

It's not about telling people how they should feel about England.

I just feel it's a bit a sad, sort of, that someone doesn't care about their national team. I've lived in several countries across Europe and Middle East and I only see this mentality here in England.

Exactly, in most other countries I have visited they are generally more patriotic towards their country than we are.

Spot on. I love watching england play but the media attention always puts me off. We beat Croatia and Germany and suddenly the papers are going on about how the World Cup is there for the taking but then we struggle to beat a team like Andorra for example and the players are instantly slagged off and people are questionning if Capello is the right man or if the players deserve to be playing for England. I still get a buzz from the national game though and am buzzing at the fact that Ive finally sorted myself with tickets to go and see them play at Wembley in April.

It will always be club before country for me but I still love the national team!

You will love it mate. I went to the World cup in 2006 and travelled with England to the Andorra game in Barcelona and its a real buzz, im sure Hullfox would agree with him being a regular traveller. The banter between rival clubs fans is a real giggle and id urge you to do it as soon as funds allow it , once you go you will be hooked.

I consider following the national side equally important to me as following the City , i still get a shiver down my spine when Owens goal vs Argentina gets shown or Platts winner against Belgium . Im a proud Englishman and will never stop dreaming that during my lifetime we will go on and win something.
