Father Ted Posted 15 February 2009 Posted 15 February 2009 Since Fryatt signed his new contract he has been lacking in goals and surprise surprise we have been lacking on the pitch. I have noticed that a few people have been unhappy with Howard and Fryatt in particular recently but those people don't realise just how much we miss the two. When Howard isn't there, we have no outlet at all and there is a big hole left in our side. But when Fryatt doesn't score it's even more costly. Our form has dipped since Matty hasn't been scoring as a result and that is also what cost us last year. Fryatt has just hit a bit of a rough patch and until he gets out of it, I feel we will be struggling
Asha Posted 15 February 2009 Posted 15 February 2009 I agree in theory, but we haven't really hit that bad a period of form, just a few disappointing home games. We're still trouncing everyone on the road, which makes up for the recent dodgy home return. Matty hasn't really hit scoring form since signing his contract, but Howard has been in the goals a lot more recently, and with the defenders cropping up with some now and the continued good amount from the midfield, I still don't see our goalscoring as a major issue.
BoneDog Posted 15 February 2009 Posted 15 February 2009 I agree let's get Cox but I don't think it'll happen. Never know though. I am a fan of Howard most of the time and my opinion of Fryatt has gone up this season as he has showed some real skill with some of his goals. The proof of the pudding will be how he does next season in the Championship (presuming we don't have a major catastrophe). We desperatley need more depth up front though, as you say without either of them there seems to be nothing happening.
Houdini Logic Posted 15 February 2009 Posted 15 February 2009 Howard and Fryatt work. When the rest of the team aren't performing then they don't get the goals - but that's not exactly their fault.

Agree, but maybe Fryatt needs a rest of some sort - or on the bench at least to begin the game at Hartlepool; I'd opt for Chambers-Howard upfront

He could take Fryatt's role on quite nicely with Howard and alternatively it would be good to see him and Fryatt up front - especially if we play through midfield, as we have been trying to.

Its Howard and Fryatt who haven't been performing. Whos fault is it Fryatt missed his pen then, Michael Morrisons Fryatt has simply got lazy since his new deal, Howard remains one of the worst target men i have ever seen, worser than De Vries by a mile. Did anyone see Adriano last night, thats the kind of target man we need

A sack of spuds was better than de vries, the only way you can say he was a better target man is that there was more of him to aim at!

Exactly. Since Fryatt signed his new contract we've got 22 points from a possible 30. I wouldn't mind if we kept this form up all season, we'd finish on over 100 points. It's just that we've started drawing a bit at home that people have started moaning.
Ozwin Posted 16 February 2009 Posted 16 February 2009 De Vries was one of the worst players to have played for our club in the last 5 years.

maddog Posted 16 February 2009 Posted 16 February 2009 De Vries was one of the worst players to have played for our club in the last 5 years. I would put De Vries, Carl Cort, and Steve Howard all in the same league i'm afraid. De Vries was playing awesome at the start of last season and was never given a chance last season, while Howard continued to play awful and played pretty much every game after he was signed. Carl Cort had that amazing performance at Chelsea so he scrapes into that League. People seem to be blind to Howard's awfulness this season too.
