Hobbs Out

From the Merc

Leicester City will definitely be without defensive starlet Jack Hobbs for the big League One clash at MK Dons on Saturday.

City decided not to appeal after the 20-year-old was shown a red card during the win over Bristol Rovers at the weekend.

It means Hobbs, who is on loan at the Walkers Stadium from Premier League club Liverpool, will serve a one-match ban.

City manager Nigel Pearson had initially called for referee Graham Norwood to have another look at Hobbs's dismissal, but the club decided against making an appeal

The Bedfordshire official has stood by his decision to send off the defender for his penalty-area challenge on Rovers striker Rickie Lambert.

Hobbs, the first City player to be sent off this season, is likely to be replaced in the starting line-up by Michael Morrison for the first v second showdown at the MK Stadium on Saturday.

Morrison and Hobbs had been the regular central defensive partnership until the arrival of Wayne Brown, on loan from Premier League Hull City.

Brown has started City's last two matches and has turned in stirring displays, particularly in the backs-to-the-wall showing at the Memorial Stadium.

The performance confirmed Pearson's view that the true character of his side has returned in time for the crucial run-in.

A previous run of three successive draws earlier in the season heralded a defeat at Brighton, and the trip to Bristol after a similar sequence was a risky venture in humble surroundings.

But City avoided history repeating itself with a maximum points haul, and the City boss knows his men are feeling top-notch mentally ahead of the visit to MK Dons.

"We remembered what happened the last time at Brighton," said Pearson. "We talked about it and we were determined not to let it happen again. But as a manager you can do only so much.

"Once the players go out there people might not realise that, while we will give advice and instruction as much as possible, there is not a lot we can do on the touchline when it comes right down to it.

"The players had to deal with a difficult pitch and the setback of going a man down with a lot of the game left.

"It was a test for them and they came through it, just like they will have to do from here on in. I was proud of the way they dealt with the adversity."

Pearson accepts the clash at the MK Stadium is a huge match and said: "We will have to show that strength of character again and I am confident we will do so."

Midfielder Matt Oakley is working towards recovering from the groin strain which forced him out of action after just 25 minutes of the weekend clash.

Striker Matty Fryatt is in line for another award after being nominated as the PFA's fans' player of the month for February.

Fryatt, who took his overall goal tally to 26 against Bristol Rovers, is up for the award along with Leeds trio Jermaine Beckford, Fabian Delph and Richard Naylor, as well as Millwall's Neil Harris. Fans can vote at:

Brown lobbed himself around a lot on Saturday but what I remember mostly are his 3 hoofs straight to the opposition keeper and him falling over whenever he didn't use his head. This wouldn't bother me too much but if he's being paired with Morisson? Argh. This is all we need.

This is Mandaric's fault for not signing Heskey so we could use him as a Centre-back. Startling lack of ambition on his part.

Just re-read Thracian's stuff in your sig.

THREE orgasms in half hour? Kudos.

Do you still get kudos if after the third she sighs and says 'fucks sake'?

I mean... hypothetically?

I didn't realise there was even a woman involved to be honest.

That's the funny thing with non-consensual sex. Once you've released your grip after the first orgasm, they usually make their escape.

And this my friends, is how you get banned.

I think Masterfox is the canary down this particular mine, I wouldn't worry.

Masterfox is an example to us all. A pioneer.

Once he goes, we'll all fall like dominoes.

Did you see the thread about turning your penis into a vagina?

And Morrison isn't?

I personally feel more at ease with Morrison at the back than Hobbs.

Say if all our defenders were fit, my pairing would be Morrison & Tunch.

Yeah, his middle name is 'The Hoof' but he's more than capable, in my opinion.

For pity`s sake will you wake up and smell the coffee, 26 goals conceded in 33 games, NONE of our defenders are liabilities, in fact I trust any central partnership NP selects 100% !!

I agree with Fatbloke - I really do.

True I suppose - relative though, isn't it? Personally I'd have Morisson down as both our worst and least constructive defender, but that's not to say I think he's bad, just not as good as the rest.

At any rate, I think we need to set up to score at least a couple at the weekend. Whatever you think about the players, they'll be unfamiliar with each other. Gradel on the bench at least.

Kisnorbo is

Our only badish run of the season was when he came back from injury, then he swiftly got injured again and the good times rolled.

Kisnorbo, no no no.

Hobbs, Morrison, Tunch, Brown, Gilbert, Edworthy, Mattock, Powell, Berner, Bunn, Martin, Hendo, Cisak, Pentney.

Bloody hell we have an awesome defence dont we :chant:

Luckily we've got more than sufficient cover in Morrison. Ok he's not technically the greatest footballer, but he's an effective centre back and has proved himself over the course of this season. Hobbs is a loss, but we'll be alright without him for a bit.

When you lose a first choice player, people tend to panic and think a 'back-up' won't be sufficient, however I think Morrison will be more than adequate to fill the gap. He may also learn a lot from playing alongside Brown for 90 minutes. I am really confident about the weekend, just hope Oakley is fully fit as I think he could play a big part if he has a good day!!

How many more times, that bad spell was also when Hobbs was making an arse of himself at RB.

This is terrible news. What the hell is Pearson doing not appealing??

We will miss him terribly I'm afraid, people take Hobbs for granted but imo he has been our best player the last month or so.
