Academy Go Nap Again

They seem to have no trouble scoring!

Leicester City's academy side made light work of Birmingham City as they ran out 5-0 winners at Belvoir Drive on Saturday.

The Foxes raced to a four-goal advantage inside 25 minutes thanks to a hat-trick from Billy Kee (pictured) and a Robbie Burns header before Adi Yussef rounded off the scoring in the second half.

The home side dominated the early exchanges with Burns then Kee coming close inside the opening minute.

But the deadlock was broken shortly afterwards as a right-foot shot from Kee nestled into the bottom corner of the goal.

Kee doubled Leicester's lead in the 12th minute before completing his hat-trick eight minutes later with a left-foot thunderbolt from 25-yards.

Nathan Hicks came close to making it four in the 24th minute however Burns made sure moments later heading home a Joe Cobb corner.

Despite a reshuffle from the visitors it was Leicester who extended their lead in the 63rd minute - a Hicks cross from the right rebounded back off the goalpost and substitute Yussef was on hand to tap in the rebound.

Jeffrey Schlupp watched his shot saved ten minutes from time however the Foxes were unable to breach the Blues defence for a sixth time.

Steve Beaglehole's side return to action next Saturday when they travel to Tottenham Hotspur.

City: Ambrusics, O'Neill, Parkes, Bolger, Cobb, Burns, Hicks, Chamberlain (70 Schlupp), C King (Yussef 44), Kee, John (60 Milnes)

Is that 17 goals in 4 games now? At any level that's outstanding.

It's often been par for the course for the Academy.

Kee is clearly a natural talent when it comes to goalscoring and not a bad footballer either when given the time.

It's also interesting that Yussef keeps popping up with a goal.

I've not seen him play a lot but what I have seen has made a good initial impression.

Thracian, you seem to see a lot of the academy, is Billy Kee a potential prolific scorer at the next step up? :scarf:

The next step up is the reserves. Before we "lost" our proper reserves team I saw him on the odd occasion at that level and was disappointed.

His close control let him down and he never seemed fully fit.

He badly needs sustained football at that level and he has to develop durability.

I like Billy Kee. He reminds me a little bit of Arthur Rowley in that he's not the sleek, athletic type we somehow expect these days but strikes you as rather more like a nightclub bouncer.

But Billy is one strong lad, a decent footballer with a bit of vision, he can link in with people and he really does have an instinct for goals.

For the time he's been around I'd expect him to be further along the line by now but serious injuries have held him back significantly. Regular reserves football or a loan spell might be best for him next if he can finish the season strongly and keep working on the fitness/strength and sharpness.

I've always rated him a better bet than Sappleton and undoubtedly our best striker prospect now that Billy McKay seems to have disappeared from the scene, McKay being more of an in-the-hole striker in any case.

Kee's not tall for a striker and I'd need to see far more of Kee at Reserves/Conference level to comment on his prospects as a potential first teamer. But it's not his goalscoring instincts that concern me. He scores goals for fun.

He sounds a Dean Windass type of player. The sort of player clubs like ours need.

Unfortunately players like him don't usually become effective until they're in their 20s.
