liamherbertlcfc Posted 22 March 2009 Posted 22 March 2009 I personally feel he has no pace and isnt sharp anymore and should be gone, as much as im happy he scored for us today...i hope everybody doesnt think he should start every game now if one of our strikers has an off game.
Koke Posted 22 March 2009 Posted 22 March 2009 He's utterly hopeless. I would rather play with 10 men and Fryatt up front on his own, than play with 12 men and have Hayles & Dickov up front.
AjcW Posted 22 March 2009 Posted 22 March 2009 I would like to turn this thread around if i can. Today i saw an almost 100 percent fit paul, one that reminded me in stages of the gem we had years ago, he did nothing but fight from the 60th minute when he came on and i feel changed all the players around him in terms of attitude, game certainly livened up when he came on, and i like the idea of him playing behind two strikers for two reasons: 1) He was able to play in a free role and roam from left to right and through the middle. 2) Can only be helpful having to players running after knockdowns as more chance of success. Ill be honest i nearly walked when he replaced gradel today but i certainly ate my words, and p.s. this has nothing to do with him scoring, i couldnt give a shit about that, because to be fair he can hardly claim it it went at about 1mph into the goal .... this is about the overall picture i saw today.
Koke Posted 22 March 2009 Posted 22 March 2009 The bloke is 37 later this year. I can just about tolerate him for this season, but the fact that he as another year left on his contract angers me. Talk about getting paid for doing the square root of **** all.
carterfox90 Posted 22 March 2009 Posted 22 March 2009 i'm glaqd he got us a point but he did look better than he did earlier in the season but long term no chance
AjcW Posted 22 March 2009 Posted 22 March 2009 My point exactly, i was really hoping when i opened this thread it would say something like..... nice to see him a little sharper or nice to see him well up for the battle today.... but no...... typical no brain lcfc fan.
Koke Posted 22 March 2009 Posted 22 March 2009 I guess you haven't seen him play all season. He really is a massive liability. Dickov is the one (and only) signing Pearson got terribly wrong.
AjcW Posted 22 March 2009 Posted 22 March 2009 Im a season ticket holder, been to every home game, ive seen him play, the only thing hes done wrong is not punch pearson in the face when he tells him to play right wing or left wing or centre midfield, today was the first time hes been put in a striker role, and in my opinion he played well.
Podge Posted 22 March 2009 Posted 22 March 2009 I can understand the point about having people trying to be available for knock-downs being very useful but in spite of Dickovs goal today i saw nothing that made me believe he is capable of contributing past the end of this season. The man will work his socks off for the team and i respect that but he doesnt offer much apart from that work-rate. Also inspite of him scoring i still believe that taking Gradel off for Dickov was a bad decision by NP.

That's fair enough, but I beg to differ. I've seen him enough times home & away and he's by and large the worst player in our squad. Yes, he works hard, but so did Elvis Hammond. Work-rate only gets you that far. If he was the only fit striker at our club, I'd rather go Everton style and play 5-5-0, honestly.

Talk about getting paid for doing the square root of **** all. This. Bet you he's in the top five earners in the club and plays fook all. I know theres others like n'gotty and co but they wernt np's signings. This transfer still has the scent of mandric all over. That aside glad he got a goal today obviously but I still doubt he can do a job next season if we inevitablly go up. I did hear something on the radio about him currently taking his coaching badges. Maybe he has a coaching role lined up next season with us. Wouldn't mind as he obviously is a good motivator. Come to think of it doesn't he help Fryatt out. Suppose if he had a hand in Fryatts rejuvenation then he has been an asset but I don't know wether thats true or not.
Asha Posted 22 March 2009 Posted 22 March 2009 Fair play to him for getting the goal for us, and earning a point.
Ajax Treesdown Posted 22 March 2009 Posted 22 March 2009 I guess you haven't seen him play all season. He really is a massive liability. Dickov is the one (and only) signing Pearson got terribly wrong. Milan's signing TBH!!!
Thracian Posted 22 March 2009 Posted 22 March 2009 Until today I'd doubt he's deserved 1/10 for his contribution to our drive for promotion this season. Today he took a predatory chance which earned us another important point and, although never outstanding, looked a far better option than Hayles for the short time he was on. That doesn't say a lot, unfortunately.
Ford Super Sunday Posted 22 March 2009 Posted 22 March 2009 First thing i said when he put dickov on for Gradel 'what an inspired substitution, Paul, who has been playing out of his skin all season, will come on and blast in a goal to save a point for us. Once again Nigel shows his tactial genius, demonstrating he isnt scared of replacing even out best player on the day' Or something along those lines
maddog Posted 22 March 2009 Posted 22 March 2009 Moaning about Dickov after a goal Did anyone notice Fryatt was useless himself yesterday, and has been for almost all his games since his new contract. Dickov and Hayles IMO remain some of the best strikers for the bench to bring on to make an impact in the last 30 minutes. Obviously Hayles started due to Howard being out, and he did ok. Paul Dickov and Barry Hayles on the bench in League one, thats fooking quality if you ask me.

The very least our club can do - especially considering the outlay - is to put a squad of players out who can compete for 90 minutes. Yes, Fryatt was and has been disappointing of late. But I don't think it has anything to do with his contract. The whole team's been faltering.
Rocky Dennis Posted 22 March 2009 Posted 22 March 2009 Somes up 'some' City fans this thread. Bloke finally gets fit, comes on, rescues a point, then gets roundly slated by some of you lot on here!! Beggars belief really.
Kilworthfox Posted 22 March 2009 Posted 22 March 2009 Happy with the goal obviously which saved our blushes. He is past it. No question. How is he match fit, having played no matches? Dickov consistently has been awful, not poor but awful. He run around chasing shadows. His legs have gone, there is no other explanation, and to me the is no other explanation needed. He only came because we offered him a 2 rather than a 1 year deal. The money he must be on every week must be £5k. How he is infront of Chambers is beyond belief. Yesterday he scored because the ball fell to his feet and he put it towards goal. Other than that he did nothing. Yesterdays performance was his best this season, but that says very little or alot what ever way you want too see it. The thing that bafffled me is that NP took off Gradel who was certainly nopt the worst plaer on the pitch, and brought on Dickov, made no sense at all to anyone near me. When he scored is was utterly bemused how it had happened!

Stuliasz Posted 22 March 2009 Posted 22 March 2009 With only seven games left, he's here and fit so if he benefits the team then great but I think it's pretty much an irrelevant topic now. Presuming we go up, I don't think there can be anyone who will argue that Dickov won't be up to it at Championship level and there are likely to be plenty of strikers in front of him. I can see him being given away or loaned to someone in League One next season anyway so there's no point in levelling abuse at the chap, especially after he salvaged a point for us yesterday.
