Daggers Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 Actor Sir David Jason has apologised for a joke he made about Pakistanis on Tuesday morning on national radio.Speaking on Christian O'Connell's Absolute Radio show the day after the joke was broadcast, the star said it was a "silly little play on words". He added: "It seems that someone has taken offence or someone is upset by it and for that of course I'm sorry." Despite no complaints having been made to the station, an Absolute spokeswoman said the joke was "unacceptable". "The comments made by David Jason were unacceptable and Christian O'Connell distanced himself from them live on air. "We consider the views of our listeners to be very important and have received no complaints about these comments. "We will continue to monitor any complaints and Christian O'Connell will issue an on-air apology in tomorrow's breakfast show." Before the 69-year-old Only Fools and Horses appeared for the second time on the radio, a spokeswoman said he had been "horrified" when hearing he had "given offence". "He hadn't thought it was a racist joke, but if people took it that way, he's very sorry about it." Speaking live on air on Tuesday, Sir David said: "What do you call a Pakistani cloakroom attendant?" After a pause, he said: "Mahatma coat." The comment was edited out of the show before it was put on the Absolute website as a podcast. Go on then all you bleeding-hearts from the Jade thread...knock yourself out over more hideous humour causing offence and suffering:
Uncle Albert Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 If I could have a celebrity Dad and Grandad then Sir Alan would be my old man and David Jason as my Grandad.
Zingari Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 How do you keep a black kid from jumping on your bed?
Matt Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 As in the trend of "I didn't know her, why should I care?"...It doesn't offend me, Why should I care?! -That may not be actually what I think, but if you want arguments in here? Having said that if it was a joke about fat, thin, irish, welsh, veggie, lesbo, queer people, would that have been ok? Probably.
Shrenchel Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 How do you keep a black kid from jumping on your bed? Also another shit joke. I swear people think they can just introduce race into their humour and it automatically makes it funny.
Finnegan Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 Also another shit joke. I swear people think they can just introduce race into their humour and it automatically makes it funny. It can work. "What do you call a Black/Asian/Whatever man flying a plane?" is usually a good gag to get the demons in someone's mind out on show. PS: The answer, after letting the person hang themselves, is 'a pilot'
Fez of Mahrez Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 It can work."What do you call a Black/Asian/Whatever man flying a plane?" is usually a good gag to get the demons in someone's mind out on show. Finnegan Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 You let them hang themself? That's a bit off. All part of an edgey gag.

Webbo Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 Zingari = Flid. There is mocking some peice of filth (when she was with us) and then there is racism. Your point might of had more credibility if you hadn't been offensive about disabled people in your first post.
Edmund Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 Del boy's always been a racist. Just look at the foreign lingo he uses. http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/onlyfools/lingo/euro.shtml My personal fav : Ajax - an expression of greeting usually to someone from the Netherlands. :giggle:

It's on G.O.L.D every night at 9, It's going through the series from start to finish in order atm. Trigger was the best, "My dad died two years before i was born"

Trigger was a genius. The episode when Rodney goes out with the duke of maylbury's daughter was on the other day. One of del boys finest moments especially at the opera.
Uncle Albert Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 One of my favourite Trigger quotes was 'I've had the same brush for the last 15 years, its had 17 new heads and 12 new handles.' Boycie has had some of the best quotes in the show along with Rodney.
Edmund Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 One of my favourite Trigger quotes was 'I've had the same brush for the last 15 years, its had 17 new heads and 12 new handles.' That was brilliant

Awesome episode, no laughter over the top of it either. When Del does the shooting and everybody is amazed with his sorn off shotgun. 'Where'd you get that?' 'Iggy Iggins' 'Iggy Iggins robs banks' 'Yea but its a Saturday.' Genius.

Makes it much more enjoyable.
