Well I beg to differ... I have been on the end of jokey remarks about being British back in Belgium so I can kinda relate to the comment in some way. To say that because it was aimed at the Asian community it suddenly becomes a huge problem just highlights the fact that some Asians have become overly sensitive... people should simply not be getting worked up over such a tiny remark

I have no idea where you get that idea from. The article cleary says that no one complained

"We consider the views of our listeners to be very important and have received no complaints about these comments.

"We will continue to monitor any complaints and Christian O'Connell will issue an on-air apology in tomorrow's breakfast show."

It has been mentioned before, and I think it deserves to be stated again.

He should be apologising for the poor quality of the gag, not any perceived or actual racist undertones.

You'll find that it was probably the white middle class that would complian. I personally didn't find the joke racist, maybe abit shit and ignorant, as mahatma is a hindu\indian term and not pakistani!

But regardless, it is because we know that it is a very sensitive area when dealing with Asians and racism...

Is it.....when did this happen, native Indians are the most racist people on the planet, future generations may have assimilated into British society but I don't have any reason to think why they should be anymore sensitive then anyone other group, unless of ofcourse you have any proof to say otherwise, or is this just your own personal opinion and experiences. May I also stress the Asian grouping is made of up of over 200 languages, thousands of cultures, there are varying differences on many things, to group them on something like this is like grouping europeans under one bracket!!

What I was saying there was nothing to do with anyone that complained but it was a response to what someone else had said on here. I was merely highlighting the fact that because it was a joke at a Pakistani name, or so he believed, it was suddenly picked up on and deemed sensitive and possibly racist hence why I said that some Asians, or should I say, Pakistani's, Indians or Middle Eastern people, had become far too sensitive about such minor things.

Well it is that, and OK, I'll specify so you can stop being so picky cause we all know who I'm talking about, Indians, Pakistanis, people from the Middle Eastern countries, have become far too sensitive. I mean nobody else around the world goes off on one about a cartoon drawing or a tiny little comment like they do. Like I had previously said, Americans couldn't care less if we or anyone else called them stupid or fat... Chinese people don't really give a monkeys when we insult them for the most part... the French and Germans don't lose it when we insult them either...

No, you might not think they have any reason to feel sensitive about such things because they are so minor, but the simple fact is they do make a big issue out of small things like this.

But who's made a big issue out of it? No one has complained!!

Is that aimed at me, Filbo!! I never said the joke was racist, it was crap, and the joke teller was ignorant because there's the term mahatma would never be used in pakistan it isn't a urdu term the joke teller just presumed that all Indians\Pakistanis are the same, and that's not true is it, hence killing the joke. the joke teller should have atleast got the joke right!! There's no hoo haa, he got his culture's wrong, i'm not offended in the least, alittle disapointed though!!!

But it wasn't picked up on by anyone Asian on here so I don't know why you're saying Asian people are really sensitive are sensitive :dunno: And at any rate most people on here are complaining that it's an awful joke, not that it's racist. Mahatma Gandhi was Indian for a start, he could have at least got the country right!

lol yes that was my gripe. If you're going to make jokes at least be a tad less ignorant.

Filbo, your not really the fox I thought you were, I had dreams of me and you hugging after a goal, while you were entertaining the kids!!!

Filbo, really mate, you have no idea, do you, the cartoon issue was an islamic issue, which not only had white muslims but african muslims protesting, anyhow it doesn't matter, you shouldn't think all people from all areas are the same.

India, houses over 200 languages, 500 religions, and as many cultures, it is made up of several nations, probably as many as europe...................wouldn't it be arong to tarnish all??? I can't remember when the last Indian affiliated riot or protest happened in the UK????

I think you're reflecting the views of the media not the subjects themselves, we don't know if the Chinese et al are offended or not, what we do know is that the media haven't made an issue of them like they do with the Asians.

We also have those 'British' people in positions of influence talking/protesting on behalf of 'Asians' often without any justification, their reaction is endemic to the roles they hold.

In this case, as I understand it no complaints have been made and yet there is still going to be broadcast an apology - those British people in positions of influence again.

This continual interference builds up an inaccurate picture and is totally counter-productive and makes it difficult to separate the genuine offensive actions from the inoffensive and we end up with everything being classed as offensive.
