l444ry Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 David Jason today apologised for 'shameful and disgraceful remarks' on the radio David Jason today apologised for 'shameful and disgraceful remarks' on the radio, ones that led to a record number of angry complaints to the BBC. 'I hang my head in shame', the Only Fools and Horses star said on Radio 4 today, 'I said things that have insulted millions across the world, words of downright evil and monstrous wrongness. Can anyone ever forgive me for my shocking behaviour?' And taking a bite out of an onion pakora, he sobbed: 'Please have it in your hearts to forgive me for my hateful words, please, oh people of Britain', and blowing his nose into a nearby japatti he continued: 'I'm leaving A Touch Of Frost because of this, and I don't think I can go on after what I have done', and the actor left the studios in floods of tears. Across Britain flags were flying at half mast after Jason's comments on air yesterday, and millions were wearing black armbands, and some were even beating themselves with sticks to try and cope with the dreadful thing that has happened. One, Mustafa Quppa, said: 'The disgustingly evil comments by - and I can't even mention his name, I'm so sickened - by that actor have driven be to hitting myself with a stick. How much longer must we have to put up with these terrible and completely inoffensive jokes, that nobody even notices?' And another, dressed in black after David Jason's remarks, added: 'This sort of Islamophobic, anti-Asianic, not-grovelling-to-a-few-ridiculous-corner shop owners-ist, inequalitistic, discrimination-against-lesbian-badgerist, anti-equal-opportunities-for-Eskimo-penguin-farmering xenophobaholicismisticalism must now stop!' We can reprint here Mr Jason's disgraceful comments he made on the 'Which planet are these people on anyway?' show, with a warning that this may cause offense to a 2 year-old child somewhere: 'What do you call a Pakistani with a sense of humour? Asif!'
Vacamion Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 So, is this thread about racism, or about what a great writer John Sullivan was, or what? I'm confused...
Big Ol' Bob Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 As if nobody has never heard that joke before. Calm down ffs.

FilboFox Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 People need to stop being so damn sensitive about everything... it's a pathetic little joke... it's a bit racist but who gives a shit!?! If someone made a joke at the expense of Brits to me, I wouldn't give a rats arse and either shrug it off or I might even find it funny. Why everyone seems to feel the need to complain about such a minor thing is beyond me. In fact, when I lived in Belgium, there were many occasions where Belgians would make jokes towards me because I was a Brit and I couldn't have cared less... it didn't upset, insult or hurt me in ANY way. Get a grip people!
stez Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 is it really racist? does it show hatred to the peoples of pakistan? or is it a play on words?
Hullfox Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 it's a bit racist Is it possible to be just a bit racist?

Get a grip people! People always make jokes about the Brits- doesn't bother me. It was a play on words- hardly offensive really, in the grand scheme of truly racist, disgusting jokes and quips that have been aired before.

Get a grip people! i guess you might've felt differently if the belgians had had a history of invading our country and enslaving us, and the using humour to take the piss?
Flynny Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 is it really racist? does it show hatred to the peoples of pakistan? or is it a play on words? I think everyone's realised that hence the distinct lack of keeping on topic in this thread. Hurrah hurrah.
Finnegan Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 People need to stop being so damn sensitive about everything... it's a pathetic little joke... it's a bit racist but who gives a shit!?! There's a (believe it or not) South Park that makes this point quite nicely. It's not really for you to say "it's a bit racist, who gives a shit?" Pardon my (ironic) assumption but I'm guessing you're white? You've no idea what it feels like to be on the receiving end of comments like that and I think you should really keep to a minimum how dismissive you are. It's a really, really petty thing to go wound up about - I agree - but at the same time I'm not going to stand here and tell the Asian community that they're being overly sensitive if they found it offensive, it's not really my place to do so. is it really racist? does it show hatred to the peoples of pakistan? or is it a play on words? Probably didn't help he implied Ghandi was Pakistani.

Flynny Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 I don't actually think anyone was offended, were they? Honestly?
Koke Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 I don't actually think anyone was offended, were they? Honestly? I just thought it was a shit joke.
Flynny Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 I just thought it was a shit joke. If I'm honest, my first thoughts were "If you're going to tell a racist joke at least tell a funny one".
stez Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 If I'm honest, my first thoughts were "If you're going to tell a racist joke at least tell a funny one". i thought it was widely known it wasn't a racist joke (a shit one maybe) now i am confused!
Flynny Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 i thought it was widely known it wasn't a racist joke (a shit one maybe) now i am confused! You're right, I'm contradicting myself. Play on words. Nothing more. To be racist it at least has to perpetuate a negative stereotype.
FilboFox Posted 27 March 2009 Posted 27 March 2009 i guess you might've felt differently if the belgians had had a history of invading our country and enslaving us, and the using humour to take the piss? Well surely that is in the past and people should move on from that... it's like saying that the Belgians who I knew should all hate the Germans because they invaded them and treated them very badly in the past but they don't do they... It is just a case of people being incredibly over sensitive about a minor comment... and lets face it, it's not the first and no doubt the last so what is the point in getting worked up over it?
