Uncle Albert Posted 3 April 2009 Posted 3 April 2009 Right people - I dont know sod all about Horse Racing and I have got a fiver to spend on the National. Should I - A. Put it all on one horse or B. Split over 5 different horses. And if anyone would like to tell me who the favourites are then I would be a happy lad.

Matt Posted 3 April 2009 Posted 3 April 2009 My Shortlist is; My Will - 8/1 Butler's Cabin - 9/1 Irish Invader - 20/1 Kilbeggan Blade - 25/1 Can't Buy Time - 50/1 (Loving the look of that as an outsider!) I'd like to put my bets on tonight and get as much value as possible but I think i'm gonna make a final decision in the morning and see 'what i'm feeling', as early as possible to get the best possible value tomorrow morning.
Bert Posted 3 April 2009 Author Posted 3 April 2009 Many papers will be giving out free bets tomorrow.
Bert Posted 3 April 2009 Author Posted 3 April 2009 Think I'll be doing mine on Boylesports - They're paying out on the top 6.
Maybes Posted 3 April 2009 Posted 3 April 2009 Think I'll be doing mine on Boylesports - They're paying out on the top 6. Will you get a free bet being a number member? How much you staking? The odds are slightly shorter on most horses due to the top 6 being paid.

Dunno yet, haven't properly picked my horses yet! You have to stake £10 to get a £20 free bet, but I'm confused whether the £10 has to be on one horse, or I could spread it over a few horses but still bet £10.
Joe. Posted 3 April 2009 Posted 3 April 2009 Gone e/w My Will, e/w Rambling Minster and a bit on Chelsea Harbour (88/1 looked beaut to me for that one).

A lot of bookies differ with the Free bet...Some bookies will let you spread your initial steak about, where as others want you to just lump it on the one selection... also with the free bet you don't get the stake back (in that case £20) so I'd advise an each-way bet as you don't get your stake back anyway (again if the bookies let you).

The odds don't look alot shorter. I like the going into the bookies, placing your bets, and hopefully after the race collecting your winnings in person, but I can't justify losing the chance of an extra 2 places just for the sake of that, I have signed up to Boylesports.
lefox Posted 3 April 2009 Posted 3 April 2009 i've a fiver on black apalachi no one seems to have him rated
James. Posted 4 April 2009 Posted 4 April 2009 Anyone know how many places Betfair pay out on for an each way bet? Can't find it on the website.
