Finnegan Posted 11 April 2009 Posted 11 April 2009 If you're just going to regurgitate what your dad has to say you might as well cut out the middle man, get him to sign up, and fuck off yourself.
Scow Posted 11 April 2009 Posted 11 April 2009 If you're just going to regurgitate what your dad has to say you might as well cut out the middle man, get him to sign up, and fuck off yourself. It's all about the streamlining: save the bandwidth; save the fox.
carterfox90 Posted 12 April 2009 Posted 12 April 2009 as long as he lets the leeds forwards know he is playing by giving them some strong first tackles that will do me give 'em hell browny
Matt Posted 12 April 2009 Posted 12 April 2009 HOOOOOF But he is a deefender clear tnhe fooknig ball! WE LOVE YOU LEICESTER WE DO, WE LOVE TOU LEIVCESTER, WE DO, WE LOVE YOU LEIVESTER WE DO, OH LEIVESTER WE LOVE HYOU!
Unabomber Posted 12 April 2009 Posted 12 April 2009 True his passing was really terrible today, I don't think he made one simple pass, and he never put his foot on the ball just aimlessly blasted it. But he defended like a trooper and that is all that was needed of him today, so smiles all round.

Thats a better summary of what I was thinking really, fair doos he needed to clear the ball but there were so many times where he should of just gone for the simple option, but instead blasted it straight to a white shirt.
Halfsy Posted 12 April 2009 Posted 12 April 2009 I thought Wayne Brown and Jack Hobbs looked very solid today. But you have to remember we were playing a very poor Hereford side, who rarely threatened. Brown is a solid defender, who will win the majority of headers and is hard in the tackle, and his distribution is the weakest aspect of his game. It will be interesting to see how he copes with the pace of Beckford. And i also think it is important the fans show support to Joe Mattock. He's a young, local lad an is a quality player when he is full of confidence. Yes, he mistimed a tackle today, and that was down to inexperience. But his 50-yard cross-field pass to Gradel in the build up to the third was the best pass of the game.
Thracian Posted 12 April 2009 Posted 12 April 2009 Can anyone tell me if theres a site where you can find out the pass completion statistics? I'm happy we won but I can't remember Wayne Brown completing a pass today, it was shocking, we got away with it today because they were crap. But we'd be lucky to get away with it against Leeds. You're absolutely right and my lad commented on it specifically. It's fine having a battlling centre-back who breaks up attacks, puts in crucial blocks and organises those around him but so much of that is wasted if he promptly gives possession away again. The problem is, like some ot our other defenders, he's not quick so he hits distant passes to avoid getting caught out is a short pass goes astray. I wish he wouldn't - except when its the only alternative - and that he'd just play the ball simply and quickly. Cos, as others mention, his defending and organising were excellent.
ivarti Posted 12 April 2009 Posted 12 April 2009 Brown is like Pele when you compare him with Kisnorbo. Look up Kisnorbo's track record and you have found Leicester in the bottom half of the League 1 table. Pearson has found it out and a few bad passes should be overlooked. Brown helped Hull to a promotion last season and has the qualities to be part of the Leicester team next season. Please just support Leicester City and don't start topics about players that really does a great job. Defending is about a lot more than passing. We are up now and that has happened without Kisnorbo. Long live Brown !!!!
lou Posted 12 April 2009 Posted 12 April 2009 A lot of players passing was less than perfect yesterday but I thought Brown was IMMENSE at the back and I did notice him shouting a lot and he had a word with Maxi just before his sublime run to set up Howard. I think Browns the Old-school sort of defender we need to keep the youngsters focussed and put the fear of God into the oppo. He nearly took one of their heads off with that header near the end......... I was 50 yards away and I was flinching!! Dont know why this thread is singling Brown out to be honest......... there were far worse players on the pitch
Houdini Logic Posted 12 April 2009 Posted 12 April 2009 I think to qualify as a pass you first have to have some idea about where you're hitting the ball. It's strange because against Carlisle i thought he took the ball down, thought about what he was doing and distributed well under pressure. That said - he was solid yesterday

He nearly took one of ems head off with that header near the end......... I was 50 yards away and I was flinching!! Too right Lou. We've not had a good experienced leader at the back for a while and it's what our youngsters need. So his passing's not the best. I want my defenders to defend first and foremost. This Brown does. If his passing is poor, it is for a midfielder to drop deep and take the ball off him to build the attacks.
Thracian Posted 12 April 2009 Posted 12 April 2009 Brown is like Pele when you compare him with Kisnorbo. Browny should frame that. However long he's been in the game I'd bet that's the first time he's ever been mentioned in the same sentence as Pele. I don't know if you're his brother or something but if you're as close to the guy as you sound you'll perhaps be able to get the message across to cut out the long range stuff and pass the ball short. Smokescreen it how you like but from the day I first watched him at Hartlepool the bloke's had two problems. Not being fit enough and not passing the ball to a colleague after winning it. The fitness didn't look too bad yesterday. And there seems nothing wrong with his ability to pass. Which, in a way makes his wastefulness even more irritating. Organising everyone else is a quality we've needed for ages but he first needs to set standards for himself and that means giving the ball simply and quickly to a Leicester shirt. Is it so much to ask?

I want my defenders to defend first and foremost. This Brown does. If his passing is poor, it is for a midfielder to drop deep and take the ball off him to build the attacks. Defending is not just about stopping the opposition. Defenders have to be able to pass and support attacks. And if this club wants to get anywhere beyond the deadbeats it currently mixes with this attitude of making allowances for wasteful distribution from defence will have to end. Times I've seen King, Oakley or the wingers drop deep and times I've seen the ball hoofed aimlessly beyond them. That not only risks giving the ball away it leaves the midfielders out of the game. Watch the good teams carefully. See how their defenders cushion the ball and lay it off 10 or 15 yards at a time. They don't miss out their midfielders. Scholes, Fabrigas, Lampard...the play goes through them not around them. The higher the level you play the more giving the ball away is punished.
Dan Posted 12 April 2009 Author Posted 12 April 2009 Trust me he did defend well but the amount of times he needlessly gave the ball away because he chose the long ball instead of the simple pass, it got right on my nerves. You may notice if he does it on Monday when we play decent opposition.

Actually, if you watch the top times, you will see Carrick, Fabregas/Denilson, etc taking the ball off the defender and starting an attack. Even the most cultured of centre backs at the top level only pass the ball 3 or 4 yards to their holding midfielder. They certainly don't support the attack in the way that you seem to imply
